In the literature search, ERIC & Taylor Francis database was searched over keywords. The articles related to the problem situation of the research were selected and included in the article. In addition, the sources I have access to have been used while writing the literature and these studies have been included in the bibliography. More specifically, a total of 22 teachers from six different branches serving in secondary schools of the Ministry of National Education in Aksaray Central District (Turkey) participated in the present research, which combined a qualitative research method and a case study. This study aims to develop a scale to measure eight-grade secondary school students' attitude... more This study aims to develop a scale to measure eight-grade secondary school students' attitudes towards individual peace. The items of the scale have been prepared by the researcher based on a literature review. The study sample included 223 eight grade students from different schools in the Mamak district of Ankara for the 2015-2016 school year. At the end of the analysis, the correlation coefficients obtained from item-factor total and adjusted correlation were found to be above .21 and all items were statistically significant. In the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), the scale items were split into four dimensions: "State before Peace", "Factors for Peace", "Factors for Sulking" and "Assitance in Peacemaking". Hakkında, çeşitli medeniyetlerin literatüründe farklı tanımlamalar yapılmasını bir yana bırakacak olursak metaforlar, insanlar arasında anlaşılır ve zengin bir iletişimin unsuru olarak nitelendirilmektedir. The purpose of the study was to examine how the term " being offended " which was the opposite of... more The purpose of the study was to examine how the term " being offended " which was the opposite of the term " peace " aimed to be gained by the students at the end of 7th grade put into action, which subject was effective upon triggering the students and the views of the students about peace training by making them teachers in a fictional way. The participants of this study were 39 male and 43 female eight grade students, which makes a total of 82 students, studying in a middle school chosen by convenience sampling method during the spring semester of the 2014-2015 academic year in one of central district of Ankara province. As one of the methods of qualitative research, phenomenology was used in the study. Semi-structural interview form consisting of questions related to the terms " peace " , " making peace " , " being offended " prepared by the researcher by taking views of expert with the aim of learning how students share the same environment without offending each other was used. Research data was analyzed through content analysis. In conclusion part, some suggestions were presented about the research by considering the views and thoughts of the participants on the terms " peace " , " making peace " , " being offended " and how to make peace training. Results revealed that the reasons for participants for the behaviors causing them to be angry with their friends were that they thought they were ignored by their friends and that their friends lied about them. Participants pointed out that they feel uncomfortable for being angry with their friends and peach was a cheerful behavior and also life science, physical education, and Turkish lessons were the most important ones that conducing to this circumstance. Another result of the study was that participants who put themselves into teachers' shoes stressed that the most effective way to pacify angry students was to advise them. Extended Summary Purpose Based on the value of " peace " expected to be acquired by middle school students at the end of the seventh grade, this study aims to observe students' behavior of " getting cross with somebody " , which is the opposite of the above-mentioned value (i.e. peace), and the resulting outcomes; to see the school course that functions as the impulse to trigger students to make peace; and to reveal student ideas about how peace education should be conducted by putting students in the place of imaginary teachers. The purpose of this study was to determine how 8th grade students perceive values such as being e... more The purpose of this study was to determine how 8th grade students perceive values such as being esthetıc which were involved in social studies teaching program for 6 and 7th graders. Therefore, metaphors and pictures/cartoons that students formed and drew for each of the values and interviews conducted with students about the related value were examined.This qualitative study designed in survey model used data research techniques such as collecting data via metaphors, semi-structured interview, and document analysis under triangulation method. Considering the data supplied by Turkish Statistical Institute (TES) about SocioEconomic Status (SES), a total of 602 (317 female-285 male) 8th graders chosen by maximum variation sampling method from 9 primary schools located in low, middle, and high socio-economical areas of central districts of Ankara participated in the study. Content analysis was conducted to analyze and interpret the data of the study. Results demonstrated that; Without regarding the difference of SES, most of the participants marked that they perceived esthetic as "nice, eyeable, smooth, and flawless scene" and "blocking the natural, negativity stemming from changing, and becoming impaired when dealt with".

Bu çalışmanın amacı, sözlü tarih çalışmalarına yönelik tutumları ölçmeye yönelik bir ölçme aracı geliştirmektir. 26 maddeden oluşan ölçek Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenliğinde öğrenim gören 123 öğretmen adayı ile Tarih Öğretmenliğinde öğrenim gören 118 öğretmen adayına uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin kapsam geçerliği için uzman görüşüne başvurulmuştur. Elde edilen veriler üzerinden ölçeğin geçerliğini belirleyebilmek için açımlayıcı faktör analizi ve madde ayırt edicilik güçleri hesaplanmıştır. Yapılan analiz sonucunda ölçeğin iki alt faktörlü bir yapıya sahip olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ölçeğin güvenirlik düzeyini tespit edebilmek için iç tutarlılık düzeyi hesaplanmıştır. Sonuç olarak bu ölçeğin sözlü tarih çalışmalarına yönelik tutumları belirlemek üzere kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç olduğu söylenebilir.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a scale to determine prospective attitudes towards oral history. The scale consisting of 26 items was applied to 123 prospective teachers from Department of Social Sciences Teaching and 118 prospective teachers from Department of History Teaching in Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education. Experts' views were given importance to ensure the content validity of the scale. Explanatory factor analysis and item discrimination powers were calculated to determine the validity of the scale. After the analysis done, it is seen that the scale has a two-factor structure. Internal consistency level was calculated to detect the reliability of the scale. Results indicated that this scale can easily be used as a valid and reliable tool to determine the attitudes towards oral history studies.

Bu araştırma, 2014-2015 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar döneminde, Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi Sosyal Bilgiler Eğitimi Anabilim Dalında eğitim gören öğretmen adaylarının, sosyal bilgiler öğretim programında yer alan değerlerin kazandırılmasına yönelik görüşleri ile değerler eğitimine yönelik algılarında, ilgili anabilim dalı programında seçmeli ders olarak bulunan, değerler eğitimi dersinin rolünü belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Nitel araştırma yönteminde tasarlanan ve tek grup öntest-sontest kontrol grupsuz zayıf deneysel desenin kullanıldığı çalışmada veriler; metaforlar yoluyla veri toplama formu ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde içerik analizi ve betimsel analiz tekniklerinden faydalanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, katılımcıların değerler eğitimine yönelik algılarında, işlem öncesinde ve sonrasında farklılaşmanın olduğu görülmüştür. Araştırmaya ait bir diğer sonuç ise işlem öncesinde katılımcılar; " etkinlik temelli öğretimle " , " model olarak öğretimle " , " drama ve oyunla " , " örnekler üzerinden öğretimle " ve " ödev vererek " gibi etkinlikler yoluyla değerin kazandırılacağını savunurken, işlem sonrasında " değer eğitim yaklaşımlarıyla " , " etkinlik temelli öğretimle " ve " model olarak öğretimle " değerin kazandırılacağını dile getirmişlerdir. Abstract
This study was conducted in the spring semester of the 2014-2015 academic year to determine the effect of the values education course, which is an elective course given at Gazi University Gazi Faculty of Education Department of Social Studies Education, on the views of pre-service teachers attending this department about introducing values, which are part of the social studies curriculum, to students and their perceptions regarding the values education. Qualitative research method and single-group pretest posttest weak experimental design without control group were used. Data were collected via the form for collecting data through metaphors and semi-structured interview form. The obtained data were analyzed through content analysis and descriptive analysis techniques. A difference was observed in the participants' views regarding the values education from the pre-experiment period to the post-experiment period. In addition, while the participants argued before the experiment that values can be introduced to students through " activity-based teaching " , " teaching by acting as a model " , " teaching through drama and play " , " teaching through examples " , and " teaching by giving homework " , they stated after the experiment that values can be introduced through " values education approaches " , " activity-based teaching " , and " teaching by acting as a model ". Recommendations were put forward based on the research results. GİRİŞ İnsanın sosyal bir varlık olmasından dolayı zaman zaman diğer insanlarla ortak bir yaşam alanı kullanmak zorundadır. Kullanılan bu ortak yaşam alanında bir takım toplumsal, siyasi, ahlaki ve kültürel ilke ve kuralların oluşmuş olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu ilke ve kurallar toplum üyelerinin birçoğu tarafından benimsenerek oluşmuştur ve öyle de yaşatılır. Toplum tarafından benimsetilerek yaşatılan bu ilke ve kuralların büyük bir bölümünü değerler oluşturur (Kılcan, 2013). Değerler, Erdem (2003: 56) tarafından belirli bir durumu bir diğerine tercih etme eğilimi, davranışlara kaynaklık eden ve onları yargılamaya yarayan anlayışlar, ayrıca, bireyin neyi önemli gördüklerini tanımlayarak, istenen, arzulanan, ilgi ve ihtiyaç duyulan şeyler hakkında bilgi veren kavramlar olarak tanımlanırken, çeşitli araştırmacılar (Aslan, 2007; Özensel, 2003; 2007; Theodorson & Theodorson, 1979: 455) değeri, özel eylemleri ve amaçları yargılamada temel bir standart sağlayan ve bir grubun üyelerinin güçlü duygusal bağlılıklarıyla oluşmuş, soyut, genelleştirilmiş davranış prensipleri; iyiyi-kötüyü, doğruyu yanlışı açığa çıkaran soyut düşünceler, idealler (Esmer, 1999); her toplumun sahip veya bağlı olduğu kültürünü meydana getiren inançlar, fikirler ve normlar (Ülken, 1969: 73); genel olarak davranışlara rehberlik eden ilkeler ve temel inançlar, eylemlerin iyi ya da istenilen olarak yargılandığı standartlar (Halstead & Taylor, 2000); toplumsal hayatta, insanların ortak olarak önemsedikleri görgül (ampirik) içerikli olgular (Türk Sanayicileri ve İşadamları Derneği [TÜSİAD], 1991: 3) olarak tanımlamışlardır.

Bu çalışmanın amacı Ignác Kúnos'un " 44 Türk Peri Masalı " adlı eserini, sosyal bilgiler 6 ve 7. sınıf öğretim programında yer alan doğrudan kazandırılması hedeflenen değerler açısından incelemektir. Bu çalışma sosyal bilgilerde kullanılan sözlü ve yazılı edebiyat ürünleri içerisinde en az rastlanan ürün olan masalları ele alması ve Ignác Kúnos'un " 44 Türk Peri Masalı " adlı eserinin değerler açısından incelenmesine yönelik ilk çalışma olması nedeniyle önem taşımaktadır. Nitel araştırma yönteminin benimsendiği bu çalışmada veri toplama amacıyla doküman analizi tekniğinden faydalanılmıştır. Araştırmanın veri toplama kaynağını " 44 Türk Peri Masalı " adlı masal kitabındaki toplam 44 masal oluşturmaktadır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır. " 44 Türk Peri Masalı " adlı masal kitabındaki masallar sosyal bilgiler 6 ve 7. sınıf öğretim programında yer alan doğrudan verilecek değerlere göre sınıflandırılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda " 44 Türk Peri Masalı " adlı masal kitabında en sık rastlanan değerin sırasıyla yardımseverlik, dürüstlük, sorumluluk, çalışkanlık, farklılıklara saygı, adil olma, hak ve özgürlüklere saygı ve barış olduğu görülmüştür. ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to scrutinize Ignác Kúnos 's Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales in terms of the values that are required to be given directly within the scope of the 6 th and 7 th grade social studies curriculum. This study is important not only because it deals with fairy tales, which constitute the least common oral and written literary works used in social studies, but also because it is the first study to dwell on Ignác Kúnos 's Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales in terms of values. This is a qualitative study. Data were collected via document analysis method. The source of data of the study is 44 fairy tales in Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales. Descriptive analysis method was employed to analyze the data. The fairy tales in Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales were classified according to the values to be given directly within the scope of the social studies curriculum for the 6 th and 7 th grades. The analysis indicated that the most frequent values in Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales are helpfulness, honesty, responsibility, being hardworking, respecting diversity, being fair, respecting rights and freedoms, and peace respectively.

teaching program came into prominence after Van Earthquake on October
23, 2011. A total of 455 8th grade students chosen randomly from central
districts of Van and Ankara provinces in 2011-2012 education year
participated in the study. This study was designed in survey model. In
order to gather data, the students were given a form including both the
question "Which of the values in the form came into prominence after
Van Earthquake on October 23, 2011?" and 14 values existing in social
studies teaching program. The students were expected to write down the
values along with their reasons that came into prominence after Van
Earthquake during the data gathering process. Descriptive analysis was
conducted to analyze the data. Results revealed that there were no
significant differences in the first and second order value rankings of
participants who experienced Van Earthquake and who did not. Results
also demonstrated that there were differences in the third and fifth order
value rankings of participants who experienced Van Earthquake and who
did not and that participants' value rankings who experienced Van
Earthquake and who did not differed on the value of the fourth order.
The purpose of this study is to determine the prospective social studies teachers' attitudes towa... more The purpose of this study is to determine the prospective social studies teachers' attitudes towards oral history studies according to different variables. A total of 585 prospective teachers studying in the Social Studies Departments of Kastamonu, Bülent Ecevit, and Gazi Universities participated in the study. Results revealed that participants' attitudes did not vary significantly according to the variables such as gender; grade level; studies that participants carried out during their undergraduate education; the place they live; the number of historical novels, stories, and memories they read; and daily-spare time for media instruments (TV, Internet, radio, newspaper) for oral history studies before they started their undergraduate education. However, participants' attitudes varied significantly according to variables such as family members' gaining information related to past events, the frequency of oral history studies which were done during their undergraduate education, and the level of participants' curiosity about oral history studies. SUMMARY Purpose and Significance: The purpose of history teaching should be facilitating young individuals to gain skills such as using research methods that historians use, and to acquire the characteristics that improve their awareness of history so that they could easily question and make their own comments on events. Achieving this mission requires using different methods and materials in teaching history. Oral history is one way for young individuals to fictionalize the past. Oral history, as a new resource and perspective to history in that it helps past lives and witnesses come to surface, makes it clear that oral history is not only composed of wars, pacts or lives of important people and that ordinary people may become the subjects of history. Through oral history that may be an ideal way to connect young people with history, it is possible to attract more attention to history and it helps to use methods that historians use. Primary and secondary school students could acquire this opportunity through social studies teachers. Therefore, prospective social studies teachers' being familiar with oral history methods and carrying out projects by using these methods may help them improve their general and professional knowledge and teaching skills. This study is based on the assumption that oral study is the key to using these methods. In this study, prospective social studies teachers' attitudes towards oral history were explored.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine the views of students, teachers, and parents towards performance homeworks assigned in social studies courses. Based on the development level data of Turkish Statistical Institution, the participants of the study consisted of 6 and 7 th grade students studying in secondary schools located in the central districts of Ankara and chosen through convenience sampling method under purposeful sampling method in 2013-2014 education year spring term, social studies teachers employed in chosen schools, and their parents. This study designed as a case study under qualitative research method used a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. Data of the study was analyzed through content analysis. Results revealed that all the participants agreed that performance homeworks could not be completed without the help of internet, parents and stationery. Another result of the study was that parents and students were not guided well about performance projects and that performance homeworks assigned to students were above their level, and that performance homeworks did not contribute to students' value judgment and skills.

that they perceived sensitivity to cultural heritage as "something protecting" and
"something protecting against external factors and illuminating people". They also

The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of the eighth grade students regarding... more The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of the eighth grade students regarding the concept of migration covered in the 6 th and 7 th grades social studies curriculum. To this end, the metaphors produced by the students in regard to this concept and the pictures/cartoons drawn by them about it were examined. Survey model was used in this study. Qualitative research techniques considered suitable for triangulation (collecting data via metaphors and document analysis) were used together. The study group consisted of 334 eight grade students (176 males and 158 females) attending secondary schools located in the central districts of Ankara, Kilis, and Gaziantep provinces in the fall semester of the 2014-2015 academic year. The participants were randomly selected through purposeful sampling. The data obtained from the participants were analyzed and interpreted through content analysis. Results indicated that most of the participants, whether or not they had been exposed to migration, perceived migration as " compulsion " , " continuity " , and " cause of separation ". Another result of this study was that especially the participants exposed to migration perceived migration as " time-dependent differentiation " and " unhappiness " and thought that migration is an undesirable temporary event that occurs at certain times and disappears after a while.

A total of 439 students studying in Gazi University Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Elementary Education in 2010-2011 academic year participated in the study. Results revealed that prospective teachers' perceptions on reasons for choosing teaching as a profession varied significantly depending on their having a teacher relative, the department they are studying in, and department's order of preference in University Entrance Exam. Research findings gave rise to the need for further research to examine the reasons of prospective teachers for choosing teaching as a profession. Araştırmaya 2010-2011 akademik yılında Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü›nde öğrenim gören toplam 439 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları, öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenliği bir meslek olarak seçme nedenlerinin öğretmen bir akrabası bulunma, öğrenim gördükleri bölüm ve öğrenim gördükleri bölümü üniversite giriş sınavında tercih sırası değişkenlerine göre anlamlı bir biçimde farklılaştığını göstermektedir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular, öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleğini seçme nedenlerine ilişkin daha fazla araştırma bulgusuna ihtiyaç olduğunu göstermektedir.

The items of the scale have been prepared by the researcher based on a literature review. The study sample included 223 eight grade students from different schools in the Mamak district of Ankara for the 2015-2016 school year. At the end of the analysis, the correlation coefficients obtained from item-factor total and adjusted correlation were found to be above .21 and all items were statistically significant. The purpose of the study was to examine how the term " being offended " which was the opposite of... more The purpose of the study was to examine how the term " being offended " which was the opposite of the term " peace " aimed to be gained by the students at the end of 7th grade put into action, which subject was effective upon triggering the students and the views of the students about peace training by making them teachers in a fictional way. The participants of this study were 39 male and 43 female eight grade students, which makes a total of 82 students, studying in a middle school chosen by convenience sampling method during the spring semester of the 2014-2015 academic year in one of central district of Ankara province. As one of the methods of qualitative research, phenomenology was used in the study. Semi-structural interview form consisting of questions related to the terms " peace " , " making peace " , " being offended " prepared by the researcher by taking views of expert with the aim of learning how students share the same environment without offending each other was used. Research data was analyzed through content analysis. In conclusion part, some suggestions were presented about the research by considering the views and thoughts of the participants on the terms " peace " , " making peace " , " being offended " and how to make peace training. Results revealed that the reasons for participants for the behaviors causing them to be angry with their friends were that they thought they were ignored by their friends and that their friends lied about them. Participants pointed out that they feel uncomfortable for being angry with their friends and peach was a cheerful behavior and also life science, physical education, and Turkish lessons were the most important ones that conducing to this circumstance. Another result of the study was that participants who put themselves into teachers' shoes stressed that the most effective way to pacify angry students was to advise them. Extended Summary Purpose Based on the value of " peace " expected to be acquired by middle school students at the end of the seventh grade, this study aims to observe students' behavior of " getting cross with somebody " , which is the opposite of the above-mentioned value (i.e. peace), and the resulting outcomes; to see the school course that functions as the impulse to trigger students to make peace; and to reveal student ideas about how peace education should be conducted by putting students in the place of imaginary teachers. Therefore, metaphors and pictures/cartoons that students formed and drew for each of the values and interviews conducted with students about the related value were examined.This qualitative study designed in survey model used data research techniques such as collecting data via metaphors, semi-structured interview, and document analysis under triangulation method. Considering the data supplied by Turkish Statistical Institute (TES) about SocioEconomic Status (SES), a total of 602 (317 female-285 male) 8th graders chosen by maximum variation sampling method from 9 primary schools located in low, middle, and high socio-economical areas of central districts of Ankara participated in the study. Content analysis was conducted to analyze and interpret the data of the study. Results demonstrated that; Without regarding the difference of SES, most of the participants marked that they perceived esthetic as "nice, eyeable, smooth, and flawless scene" and "blocking the natural, negativity stemming from changing, and becoming impaired when dealt with".

Bu çalışmanın amacı, sözlü tarih çalışmalarına yönelik tutumları ölçmeye yönelik bir ölçme aracı geliştirmektir. 26 maddeden oluşan ölçek Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenliğinde öğrenim gören 123 öğretmen adayı ile Tarih Öğretmenliğinde öğrenim gören 118 öğretmen adayına uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin kapsam geçerliği için uzman görüşüne başvurulmuştur. Elde edilen veriler üzerinden ölçeğin geçerliğini belirleyebilmek için açımlayıcı faktör analizi ve madde ayırt edicilik güçleri hesaplanmıştır. Yapılan analiz sonucunda ölçeğin iki alt faktörlü bir yapıya sahip olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ölçeğin güvenirlik düzeyini tespit edebilmek için iç tutarlılık düzeyi hesaplanmıştır. Sonuç olarak bu ölçeğin sözlü tarih çalışmalarına yönelik tutumları belirlemek üzere kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç olduğu söylenebilir.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a scale to determine prospective attitudes towards oral history. The scale consisting of 26 items was applied to 123 prospective teachers from Department of Social Sciences Teaching and 118 prospective teachers from Department of History Teaching in Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education. Experts' views were given importance to ensure the content validity of the scale. Explanatory factor analysis and item discrimination powers were calculated to determine the validity of the scale. After the analysis done, it is seen that the scale has a two-factor structure. Internal consistency level was calculated to detect the reliability of the scale. Results indicated that this scale can easily be used as a valid and reliable tool to determine the attitudes towards oral history studies.

Bu araştırma, 2014-2015 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar döneminde, Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi Sosyal Bilgiler Eğitimi Anabilim Dalında eğitim gören öğretmen adaylarının, sosyal bilgiler öğretim programında yer alan değerlerin kazandırılmasına yönelik görüşleri ile değerler eğitimine yönelik algılarında, ilgili anabilim dalı programında seçmeli ders olarak bulunan, değerler eğitimi dersinin rolünü belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Nitel araştırma yönteminde tasarlanan ve tek grup öntest-sontest kontrol grupsuz zayıf deneysel desenin kullanıldığı çalışmada veriler; metaforlar yoluyla veri toplama formu ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde içerik analizi ve betimsel analiz tekniklerinden faydalanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, katılımcıların değerler eğitimine yönelik algılarında, işlem öncesinde ve sonrasında farklılaşmanın olduğu görülmüştür. Araştırmaya ait bir diğer sonuç ise işlem öncesinde katılımcılar; " etkinlik temelli öğretimle " , " model olarak öğretimle " , " drama ve oyunla " , " örnekler üzerinden öğretimle " ve " ödev vererek " gibi etkinlikler yoluyla değerin kazandırılacağını savunurken, işlem sonrasında " değer eğitim yaklaşımlarıyla " , " etkinlik temelli öğretimle " ve " model olarak öğretimle " değerin kazandırılacağını dile getirmişlerdir. Abstract
This study was conducted in the spring semester of the 2014-2015 academic year to determine the effect of the values education course, which is an elective course given at Gazi University Gazi Faculty of Education Department of Social Studies Education, on the views of pre-service teachers attending this department about introducing values, which are part of the social studies curriculum, to students and their perceptions regarding the values education. Qualitative research method and single-group pretest posttest weak experimental design without control group were used. Data were collected via the form for collecting data through metaphors and semi-structured interview form. The obtained data were analyzed through content analysis and descriptive analysis techniques. A difference was observed in the participants' views regarding the values education from the pre-experiment period to the post-experiment period. In addition, while the participants argued before the experiment that values can be introduced to students through " activity-based teaching " , " teaching by acting as a model " , " teaching through drama and play " , " teaching through examples " , and " teaching by giving homework " , they stated after the experiment that values can be introduced through " values education approaches " , " activity-based teaching " , and " teaching by acting as a model ". Recommendations were put forward based on the research results. GİRİŞ İnsanın sosyal bir varlık olmasından dolayı zaman zaman diğer insanlarla ortak bir yaşam alanı kullanmak zorundadır. Kullanılan bu ortak yaşam alanında bir takım toplumsal, siyasi, ahlaki ve kültürel ilke ve kuralların oluşmuş olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu ilke ve kurallar toplum üyelerinin birçoğu tarafından benimsenerek oluşmuştur ve öyle de yaşatılır. Toplum tarafından benimsetilerek yaşatılan bu ilke ve kuralların büyük bir bölümünü değerler oluşturur (Kılcan, 2013). Bu çalışmanın amacı Ignác Kúnos'un " 44 Türk Peri Masalı " adlı eserini, sosyal bilgiler 6 ve 7. sınıf öğretim programında yer alan doğrudan kazandırılması hedeflenen değerler açısından incelemektir. Bu çalışma sosyal bilgilerde kullanılan sözlü ve yazılı edebiyat ürünleri içerisinde en az rastlanan ürün olan masalları ele alması ve Ignác Kúnos'un " 44 Türk Peri Masalı " adlı eserinin değerler açısından incelenmesine yönelik ilk çalışma olması nedeniyle önem taşımaktadır. Nitel araştırma yönteminin benimsendiği bu çalışmada veri toplama amacıyla doküman analizi tekniğinden faydalanılmıştır. Araştırmanın veri toplama kaynağını " 44 Türk Peri Masalı " adlı masal kitabındaki toplam 44 masal oluşturmaktadır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır. ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to scrutinize Ignác Kúnos 's Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales in terms of the values that are required to be given directly within the scope of the 6 th and 7 th grade social studies curriculum. This study is important not only because it deals with fairy tales, which constitute the least common oral and written literary works used in social studies, but also because it is the first study to dwell on Ignác Kúnos 's Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales in terms of values. This is a qualitative study. Data were collected via document analysis method. The source of data of the study is 44 fairy tales in Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales. Descriptive analysis method was employed to analyze the data. The fairy tales in Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales were classified according to the values to be given directly within the scope of the social studies curriculum for the 6 th and 7 th grades. The analysis indicated that the most frequent values in Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales are helpfulness, honesty, responsibility, being hardworking, respecting diversity, being fair, respecting rights and freedoms, and peace respectively.

teaching program came into prominence after Van Earthquake on October
23, 2011. A total of 455 8th grade students chosen randomly from central
districts of Van and Ankara provinces in 2011-2012 education year
participated in the study. This study was designed in survey model. In
order to gather data, the students were given a form including both the
question "Which of the values in the form came into prominence after
Van Earthquake on October 23, 2011?" and 14 values existing in social
studies teaching program. The students were expected to write down the
values along with their reasons that came into prominence after Van
Earthquake during the data gathering process. Descriptive analysis was
conducted to analyze the data. Results revealed that there were no
significant differences in the first and second order value rankings of
participants who experienced Van Earthquake and who did not. Results
also demonstrated that there were differences in the third and fifth order
value rankings of participants who experienced Van Earthquake and who
did not and that participants' value rankings who experienced Van
Earthquake and who did not differed on the value of the fourth order.
The purpose of this study is to determine the prospective social studies teachers' attitudes towa... more The purpose of this study is to determine the prospective social studies teachers' attitudes towards oral history studies according to different variables. A total of 585 prospective teachers studying in the Social Studies Departments of Kastamonu, Bülent Ecevit, and Gazi Universities participated in the study. Results revealed that participants' attitudes did not vary significantly according to the variables such as gender; grade level; studies that participants carried out during their undergraduate education; the place they live; the number of historical novels, stories, and memories they read; and daily-spare time for media instruments (TV, Internet, radio, newspaper) for oral history studies before they started their undergraduate education. However, participants' attitudes varied significantly according to variables such as family members' gaining information related to past events, the frequency of oral history studies which were done during their undergraduate education, and the level of participants' curiosity about oral history studies. SUMMARY Purpose and Significance: The purpose of history teaching should be facilitating young individuals to gain skills such as using research methods that historians use, and to acquire the characteristics that improve their awareness of history so that they could easily question and make their own comments on events. Achieving this mission requires using different methods and materials in teaching history. Oral history is one way for young individuals to fictionalize the past. Oral history, as a new resource and perspective to history in that it helps past lives and witnesses come to surface, makes it clear that oral history is not only composed of wars, pacts or lives of important people and that ordinary people may become the subjects of history. Through oral history that may be an ideal way to connect young people with history, it is possible to attract more attention to history and it helps to use methods that historians use. Primary and secondary school students could acquire this opportunity through social studies teachers. Therefore, prospective social studies teachers' being familiar with oral history methods and carrying out projects by using these methods may help them improve their general and professional knowledge and teaching skills. This study is based on the assumption that oral study is the key to using these methods. In this study, prospective social studies teachers' attitudes towards oral history were explored.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine the views of students, teachers, and parents towards performance homeworks assigned in social studies courses. Based on the development level data of Turkish Statistical Institution, the participants of the study consisted of 6 and 7 th grade students studying in secondary schools located in the central districts of Ankara and chosen through convenience sampling method under purposeful sampling method in 2013-2014 education year spring term, social studies teachers employed in chosen schools, and their parents. This study designed as a case study under qualitative research method used a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. Data of the study was analyzed through content analysis. Results revealed that all the participants agreed that performance homeworks could not be completed without the help of internet, parents and stationery. Another result of the study was that parents and students were not guided well about performance projects and that performance homeworks assigned to students were above their level, and that performance homeworks did not contribute to students' value judgment and skills.

To this end, the metaphors produced by the students in regard to this concept and the pictures/cartoons drawn by them about it were examined. Survey model was used in this study. Qualitative research techniques considered suitable for triangulation (collecting data via metaphors and document analysis) were used together. The study group consisted of 334 eight grade students (176 males and 158 females) attending secondary schools located in the central districts of Ankara, Kilis, and Gaziantep provinces in the fall semester of the 2014-2015 academic year. The participants were randomly selected through purposeful sampling. The data obtained from the participants were analyzed and interpreted through content analysis. Results indicated that most of the participants, whether or not they had been exposed to migration, perceived migration as " compulsion " , " continuity " , and " cause of separation ". Another result of this study was that especially the participants exposed to migration perceived migration as " time-dependent differentiation " and " unhappiness " and thought that migration is an undesirable temporary event that occurs at certain times and disappears after a while.

A... more The study seeks to explore prospective teachers' reasons for choosing teaching as a profession. A total of 439 students studying in Gazi University Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Elementary Education in 2010-2011 academic year participated in the study. Results revealed that prospective teachers' perceptions on reasons for choosing teaching as a profession varied significantly depending on their having a teacher relative, the department they are studying in, and department's order of preference in University Entrance Exam. Research findings gave rise to the need for further research to examine the reasons of prospective teachers for choosing teaching as a profession. Özet Bu araştırmanın amacı öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenliği bir meslek olarak seçme nedenlerini incelemektir. Araştırmaya 2010-2011 akademik yılında Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü›nde öğrenim gören toplam 439 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları, öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenliği bir meslek olarak seçme nedenlerinin öğretmen bir akrabası bulunma, öğrenim gördükleri bölüm ve öğrenim gördükleri bölümü üniversite giriş sınavında tercih sırası değişkenlerine göre anlamlı bir biçimde farklılaştığını göstermektedir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular, öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleğini seçme nedenlerine ilişkin daha fazla araştırma bulgusuna ihtiyaç olduğunu göstermektedir.
