Genre Challenge catch-up (original) (raw)
First off, welcome to Icthusfish!
We did cover fantasy last month but, since foojournal was the only one who actually managed to produce something that counted (as mine doesn't hit minimum length) I am tempted to leave it open this month as well. I know we all had trouble with it which I think was in part due to the unexpected pressure created by the actual GC genre of choice.
Thoughts and preferences people?
Would we want to invite ichthusfish from GC to join us? I enjoy reading her work, and she seems pretty prolific...probably could do two a month. I don't know when she started GC, but it might be interesting to see if she'd want to play to. Thoughts?

Whew! I made it! :) I am not sure on the title of this. I had originally called it "The Scout", but this works for a specific story reason. We'll see.
I have a whole 100 odd words written on something that promises to be fantasy and currently features a thief who I'm rapidly coming to like and some kind of magical gem which probably isn't going to be all it seems. I think this is very much going to be fluff but, considering the GoC for this month and it's outcome, that's not exactly a bad thing. I am now going to go work on this month's essay so I feel less guilty for getting some 'proper' writing done tomorrow.
Well, I may have hit on something for the fantasy challenge...FINALLY. I think I was getting bogged down in the scope of fantasy; to me, fantasy as a genre is all about intricate worlds and elaborate quests. Everything I thought of became unwieldy.
I finally decided to just boil it down to one singular moment, and tell a story around that - letting the pieces of the fantasy world fall into place around it.
I'm not quite finished yet. I am getting a little punchy, so I may need to wrap it up tomorrow. And it's kind of clunky in places, so it'll need polish.
But at least I'm writing fantasy!!
I honestly don't know if I can do the May catchup. I have NOTHING when it comes to fantasy. Nothing even remotely turning itself into a story. ::sigh:: Every time I think I have an idea it fizzles out.
Gah!
Ok I know it's a little late in the month to be setting this up but still -
May catch up - Fantasy
We're over halfway through now and I have precicely nothing, anyone else doing any better?
