Roberto S Leon | Georgia College & State University (original) (raw)
I am assistant professor of writing studies at Georgia College and State University. My research, teaching, and service center questions of encounter, form, and agency.
RESEARCH
My research interests include histories and theories of rhetoric and composition, comparative rhetoric, professional/technical writing, second language writing, writing program administration, and writing pedagogy education. In publishing, I focus on creating both research-informed textbook chapters and traditional scholarly projects. My research-informed teaching materials have been published in Writing Spaces, Writing Commons, and Dynamic Activities for First-Year Composition, with a forthcoming chapter in Writing Things Worth Reading. I also have a forthcoming chapter in Jesuit Rhetorics Across Space and Time, a forthcoming article in Rhetorica, and a forthcoming review of Global Rhetorical Traditions.
TEACHING
At Georgia College and State University, I teach first-year writing and graduate writing pedagogy courses. I have previously taught in Maryland, Hawai’i, and Utah, and have regularly taught online and blended courses since 2013. Besides teaching first year composition, I have also designed and taught courses in rhetorical theory, technical writing, grammar, basic writing, L2 oral fluency, and tutoring oral fluency.
SERVICE
I currently serve as Teaching Fellows Coordinator, focused on professional development for graduate student instructors. With my colleagues, I also contribute to curriculum and faculty development. I am also a copyeditor with Composition Studies and Writing Commons. Previously, I have served as an Administrative Fellow for the University of Maryland's Academic Writing Program and served on the board of Interpolations: A Journal of Academic Writing at the University of Maryland. I have also served as a summer Administrative Fellow for the University of Maryland Writing Center, as a Mentor-in-Teaching with the English Department, and as a member of the Digital Presence committee of the Writing Program Administrators Graduate Organization (WPA-GO). I have worked with our department Writing Committee as a graduate student representative and I co-chaired our 2020 graduate student conference.
