Gecko Fund - Supporting Open Source in Finance (original) (raw)
EXANTE’s €1 million commitment to the projects powering modern finance.
Origin story
At EXANTE, our engineers realized that nearly 70% of the critical open-source stack we rely on every day was built and maintained by unpaid or under-resourced contributors. We created Gecko Fund to do something about it - direct support for the maintainers who keep this infrastructure running. Our goal is simple: the people who build the backbone of the industry should have what they need to keep it secure and thriving.
Our first grant
Kryo is a fast and highly efficient object graph serialization framework for Java. We're funding the maintainers to support critical infrastructure heavily relied upon in high-performance financial data processing and trading systems.
What we fund
We support the maintainers of widely used, critically important open-source technologies. Today, that means Erlang/OTP, Scala, the JVM ecosystem, JavaScript, and the tooling holding it all together. Tomorrow, it means whatever finance comes to depend on next.

Individuals, project teams, communities, and organisations can all apply. If your open-source project is essential to the finance ecosystem but falls outside the categories above, we still encourage you to reach out.
