Queer Identity/Politics Survey [Jan. 31st, 2012|04:39 pm]The Genderqueer Community
Hi! My name is Molly and I’m a new member to the genderqueer livejournal community and a Psychology/Gender Studies undergraduate student in Florida. I would like to invite you to take a (brief) survey I’m conducting for my thesis research on queer identity and politics. I understand this community is primarily about gender discussions, but I'd love to get responses from a wide variety of gender and sexual identities. So please, if you personally identify as queer, or if you are just have opinions about queer identity/politics, please consider taking my survey. There are only 11 questions, and by providing your opinions on queer identity/politics, your voice will greatly contribute to a widely neglected area of study in psychology (as well as support my graduation, academic success, and happiness). Also, I’ve received funding from my school to be able to compensate up to 80 people who complete the survey with $5 Starbucks “eGifts” (through this Starbucks page). You're welcome to request an “eGift” at the end of the survey. If 80 people have already claimed the rewards, I’ll put a reward disclaimer at the beginning of the survey. Here is another link to the survey, in case you missed the first one.Thank you so much!Molly

Acceptable to start a letter in one of these ways? [Aug. 31st, 2010|04:14 pm]The Genderqueer Community
[**music** |Thee Headliners - double dutch Powered by Last.fm]To whom it may concern, _Dear company / organisation,_Or just:_Company name / organisation name,_I know 'Dear Sir or Madam' is the usual way to address someone whose name or gender you aren't aware of, but fuck that shit. For reference in am in the UK and I am asking in regard to applying for a job vacancy so if it means I stand out, that's probably a good thing.I'm not asking for what is preferable to you, just trying to find a way to balance my rejection of the binary with writing in a way that is accepted in the formal standard for written english. I normally drop titles by just referring to people by full name and I don't use a title for myself unless I'm given no other choice. This is a bit trickier though.

gender, chests, and a zine [Jan. 26th, 2010|11:47 pm]The Genderqueer Community
hey genderqueer folks and allies,i'm eli, and my partner liam (unearthingbone) and i are working on a zine about trans/genderqueer/gender variant folks and our relationships to our chests. please feel free to circulate this, and yes, it has been x-posted.The Community Chest Project wants to hear about your relationship with your chest. How do you define your chest? How do you identify? What words do you use to identify your chest, if any? How do you feel about your chest? Does your chest -- or the shape of your chest -- impact your identity? Has your relationship with your chest, or your chest itself, changed over your lifetime? Would you change your chest? We are two trans masculine(-ish) folks working on putting together a zine about chests. For trans*, gender-variant, people with trans history, genderqueer, other-gender, and cisgender folks all, we think our chests can be one of the most complex sites on the body, both culturally and individually.( Read more...Collapse )

Oh LJ... [Dec. 15th, 2009|04:53 am]The Genderqueer Community
[**mood** |crushedcrushed]LiveJournal's making a change to the gender setting on the profile page.* Gender will be a mandatory field at account creation.* LiveJournal is removing the Unspecified option for the gender field. That's right: you get to be male or female. Period. That's it. (Source.)I... I don't even have words to explain how much this hurts me. And it does hurt, because I can't see what good limiting the gender option does at all, especially if the information is staying private. It's probably silly of me to be crying about this, but I just don't need this shit right now.(For those who'd like suggestions on how to deal with this, this post has some ideas, which is where I found out about it.)[Edit] Apparently the change is not going through (edit at the bottom of the page), sorry!

sex vs gender amusment [Nov. 3rd, 2009|08:13 pm]The Genderqueer Community
No need to grapple with gender identity for years, this test will give you a clear answer in just 10 minutes!Has anyone else seen these in drugstores? I'm torn between laughing and wanting to smack whoever came up with the name/packaging. Silly people, there is no way this test can tell anyone what their fetus's gender will be...plus the ridiculous "pink or blue" thing they've done.
