Goblet of Fire, Chapters 26-33 (original) (raw)
In these chapters, Harry battles merpeople, deals with pesky reporters and the plot behind Harry's entry into the Triwizard Tornament is finally revealed as our story takes an even darker turn. Discussion questions under the cut! As always, anyone is welcome to join in.
The Second Task! Harry's procrastination leads him into troubled waters, but his determination and bravery under the water pays off as the judges recognise his stubborness as an admirable quality. When reading this chapter, were you as worried as Harry was about the fate of Ron, Hermione, Cho and Gabrielle? How do you think J.K. Rowling's portrayal of Merpeople compares to other portrayals of this popular mythical creature?
J.K. Rowling drops even more hints for us in chapters 28, 29 and 30. What have you picked up on this read through that you might have missed before?
Rowling introduces a new magical instrument which will later become highly significant: the pensieve. What thoughts would you like to drop into the pensieve? Are there any particular memories you'd like to revisit?
The story takes a frightening turn with the death of a major character and the return of an old villain to full power. Do you think this marks a change in the overall direction of the series?
The incantation used to revive Voldemort is very specific and contains important clues fr his defeat later on. How far ahead do you think J.K. Rowling planned the events of future books, and how much detail do you think she had already plotted out at this point in time?
