A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to selected healthcare professionals in various hospitals in India predominantly from accredited hospitals. About 600 potential respondents were selected. A 40-item survey was designed and comprised questions on demographic data, knowledge of definition of general quality, healthcare quality and implementation of quality systems in hospitals, and the difference between various standards of measurement of quality in healthcare and quality in support functions. The knowledge of healthcare professionals significantly varies according to their designations, accreditation status of the work place, and their qualification. Overall, good knowledge on quality is suggestive of conceptual clarity among healthcare professionals regarding quality who either have exposure to hospital accreditation...

The role of trade unions in collective bargaining is a pivotal tool to improve working conditions and solve labour disputes as well as to achieve social justice, decent work, economic development and stability in societies. Collective bargaining help achieve a wage-led recovery strategy that ensures a sustainable consumption pattern and reverses the growth of inequality. Realising the importance of freedom of association and collective bargaining in achieving economic and sustainability of organisation and society United Nations has launched a voluntary initiative on 26 July 2000, United Nations Global Compact, based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation. These Principles are derived from: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. The global trend suggests that large organisations are engaging contract workers even for perineal jobs. Despite the efforts of ILO and UN it is also evident that rights of the contract workers are grossly violated by the formal organised sector both private and public. Even those organisations that are participating in Business Excellence award and in some cases award/prize winners are not different. This paper examines the provisions kept in the EFQM Model of Business Excellence to alleviate the plight of contract workers. Evidence suggests that neither the organisations nor the assessor community are sensitive enough to this issue. It is argued that as Business Excellence models aim to satisfy the needs and expectations of all stakeholders, the rights of the contract workers must also be considered while designing the processes and during the assessment process. It is argued that in promoting the cause of the contract workers the Business Excellence models must address such issues not covertly but rather directly by incorporating the obligations of meeting the ILO standards and UN Global Compact principles within the standards. This is also required for maintaining the credibility of the model.

This is certainly relevant in the aftermath of the coronavirus outbreak. While acknowledging the need of investigating employees' perspectives in order to create a productive work-from-home environment, this study focuses on the elements that influence job performance. It suggests job satisfaction and motivation as mediating variables to explain how working from home influences employee performance. The study's questionnaire-based data, which has been tailored to the changes caused by current pandemic, was acquired through multiple in-person and online survey of Bangladeshi employees. A total of 260 people actively participated in the assessment. In its further processing, the study utilized structural equation-based framework to address the research questions. In the study, employees reported more job satisfaction and motivation as a result of working from home, resulting in improved job performance. While the relevance of this study is constrained to how these advantages are manifested in Bangladesh, it may have external validity in other pandemic-affected nations.

This case study presents a simple approach of developing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to reduce the variation in moisture in Coke by analyzing past data and using Cause and Effect diagram and critically analyzing the contribution of different factors in introducing variation in moisture. The pre and post SOP implementation results are analyzed statistically to ensure that the difference in variance of moisture content is statistically significant. After implementing the action plan for one quarter, overwhelming results were noticed. The standard deviation of moisture on day to day basis has reduced from 2.5% to 1.0%.

On-site observations, self-travelling experience and opinions of daily travelling passengers have been used to form structural self-interaction matrix (SSIM). Interpretive structural modelling (ISM) has been adopted to develop PIP quality model framework and subsequently, MICMAC approach is used to investigate driving and dependence power of the outcome/enabler(s). The PIP quality model framework portrays that passenger satisfaction is top level consequential outcome perceived through passenger safety, comfort and security which is derived from smooth PIP. However, smooth PIP is reliant on a combination of enablers. The understanding of outcome/enabler(s) and their hierarchical relationship, driving and dependence power should instigate authorities to reengineer PIP especially for overcrowded suburban stations in Mumbai. This topic is researched keeping in mind daily apprehensions of millions of passengers those who travel by Mumbai suburban trains. Undoubtedly, findings of this research may lay down a foundation for authorities to reengineer PIP to enhance passenger satisfaction. In future, this study can be extended and validated by undertaking simulation and experimentation in the real environment.

The case traces the origin and history of the firm. Then the case narrates accidental observation of the violation of the emission-norms and response of the firm to the situation. The case contrasts the responses of other firms in the industry who were affected by similar, albeit much smaller level, violation of emission-norms. The case explores the possible courses of punitive actions and the overall impact on each of the stakeholders. The case leaves the reader to explore the responsibilities of each stakeholder and the need to balance the expectations and impacts from the course of action that need to be followed.

In this descriptive case study, an incidence of the stampede at the suburban train station in Mumbai has discussed. An endeavour has been made to examine underlying causes which instigate direct causes reinforced by contributing causes. Indian Army was being roped in for constructing additional foot-over-bridge (FOB) after the stampede. This case features the earnestness of appropriate and timely development of associated infrastructure in and around suburban stations in Mumbai proportionate to abundant passengers commuting. Post stampede reports from newspapers, televisions channels and the internet have largely used to build this case. Pre and post cause analysis discussion on Elphinstone Road FOB stampede case is an eye-opener to justify sustainable emergency management and associated infrastructure development in Mumbai.

Indian cities like Delhi Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai do have either metro trains or suburban trains or combinations of both. The demand for suburban train services in Indian metro cities is continuously increasing. This paper is an attempt to conduct systemic mapping of the available literature with respect to interactions between passengers and railway transportation. This bibliometric analysis has extensively used repositories such as Scopus, Google Scholar, Researchgate, and tools like Gephi, Sciencescape, Table2Net and GPS Visualizer. The study revealed that maximum studies on passenger centric railway transportation have taken place in the recent years and collaboration among researchers is a common aspect. It was also observed that Chinese universities/institutions are leading in the research studies concerning passenger centric railway transportation. Keywords statistics indicates less attentiveness of researchers towards passenger comfort, satisfaction, movements and behaviour.

Setup time contributes a substantial amount of reduction in machine availability in pharma companies. Through a case study of a pharma manufacturing firm the paper explains how SMED can be implemented resulting substantial saving of down time without increasing the work load of the operators. It shows how the activities involved in machine setup can be divided in two classes—internal and external—and how ECRS (Eliminate, Combine, Rearrange and simplify) principles can be applied to reduce the activity time.

The application has been illustrated through its use in an open cast Iron Ore-Mine. Yager's methodology for Ordinal multiobjective decisions based on fuzzy sets has been chosen since the model only demands ordinal information of experts' preferences and the importance of each individual factor. Moreover this model can be used by the practising Engineers who may not be having in-depth knowledge on fuzzy mathematics. Typical hazards associated with open cast mining have been used in this application.

Risk factors have been evaluated using linguistic representations of the quantity of the hazardous substance involved, its frequency of interaction with the environment, severity of its impact and the uncertainty involved in its detection in advance. For each linguistic value there is a corresponding membership function ranging over a universe of discourse. The risk scenario created by a hazard/hazardous situation having highest degree of featural value is taken as the known pattern. Each sample pattern of hazard/hazardous situation with their known featural values is then matched with the known pattern. The concept of multifeature pattern matching based on fuzzy logic is used to derive the rank ordering of process hazards.
