Has been deprecated since April 2022. See issue jax-ml#10278 for an alternative API.

Arrived from the deprecation noice (changelog) -- what would be an alternative API?

I am not sure how the PR got lost, but the commit that added the deprecation instructions is here.

In retrospect, it was a bad idea to add the deprecation instructions in loops.py, which was then removed a few months later.
