A new home for Firefox policy documentation · mozilla/policy-templates · Discussion #1291 (original) (raw)
Hi all, we're starting to move the Firefox policy documentation from https://mozilla.github.io/policy-templates/ to a new site at https://firefox-admin-docs.mozilla.org/.
This is part of an effort to separate templates, documentation, and engine-level work so each has a clear home.
What's changing
- Policy documentation now lives under Firefox Admin docs.
- All new policy documentation updates will happen on the new site.
- The old docs site will eventually have a redirect in place.
The new docs repository is public and open to contributions, so if you spot something incorrect or want to make improvements, feel free to open a PR at https://github.com/mozilla/enterprise-admin-reference.
What's staying the same
- The templates repo is still the home for policy templates
- No policy behavior is changing as part of this move
Where will things live in future?
The policy templates repo has a lot of issues and discussions. We'll continue to monitor them, but we’re trying to keep things a bit more organized:
- Policy Templates repository
- Source of Firefox policy templates and the official releases (mozilla/policy-templates)
- Issues with the policy templates
- Questions or discussions about templates or policies (GitHub Discussions)
- Firefox Admin Docs repo
- Source of Firefox policy documentation (mozilla/enterprise-admin-reference)
- Issues and PRs for missing, unclear, or incorrect docs
- Suggestions to improve policy docs
- Bugzilla
- Bugs or feature requests related to the policy engine ('Enterprise Policies' component)
- Anything that requires changes to Firefox behavior instead of docs or templates
As part of this work, we may move issues when it makes sense to keep things organized.
What you should do
- Update links or bookmarks to point to the new docs site
- Open issues in the repo that best matches the topic (docs vs templates)
- Use Bugzilla for engine-level bugs or feature requests
We'll keep the old site around to ease the transition. If you're unsure where something belongs, you can ask, we're happy to help.
Thanks and looking forward to your feedback!
