An alias for that would be lake Vostok.

Another thing about glaciology, is that it is interesting, because it allows us to know how things will work, in case we go somewhere in space, where processes that the glaciology studies are really relevant. Im not sure how to formulate that as an interest.

As for more interests, I'd guess it would also have

avalanches (they are somewhat on border of glaciology, and parts of physics that study processes

Anyhow. water might be a good interest.
Another thing is that ice/snow doesn't need to mean H2O based stuff. If you cool something that is usually liquid or even a gas sufficiently, it can turn into a frozen solid state.

I put avalanches in as they are included in the Cryosphere sessions at the major conferences (AGU, EGU etc), and in the last two universities I've been in people studying avalanches have fallen under the glaciology research group. This is probably for lack of any other relevant headings in both cases, but still... anyone who might have something relevant to say is more likely to find us if we leave it in. Recently I've heard some useful comments on the role of avalanches in accumulation, for example.

How many interests are we allowed, does anyone know?

When there was a major avalanche in Karmadon gorge (Im not sure I spelled that right), glaciology people were dispatched there along with rescue teams.
To share their knowledge of processes, which bits might be flooded, etc.

Avalanches as a process are most likely physics related. The cause of avalanches is usually glaciology related.

About keeping us going, I could:
a) Ask Igor Zotikov if I can publish bits of his texts (that are relevent to the topic of community, and are an interesting read);
b) Translate bits of untranslated texts and post (if he allows me, which is quite possible, I work with him :>);
c) Suggest that other members do the same.

Im not sure. Glaciology isn't what I do for life, and I haven't even studied it. I sometimes help out some glaciology people with their computer woes, and thats it. :)
Sometimes I kind of proof read (thats more likely not that, but light editing, so the books are easier to read) some books before they are printed.

Besides, most communities I ever mantained mostly have very slow traffic. :>
