The knowledge of such an event prompts meticulous preparation, a reflection of purpose, a review of key memories, meaningful time with loved ones, and, whether admitted or not, deep sorrow. This is what Jesus had in view. His whole life and his life journey boils down to these final hours of the passion narrative, which are shaped with his last intimate conversations with his dear disciples, his intense solitude before the Father, and then eventually to his arrest, trial, and crucifixion on the hill of Golgotha. The episode in Gethsemane, written in the passages of Matthew 26:36-42, Mark 14:32-41 and Luke 22:39-43, follows one of Jesus' most heartwrenching moments as he spends time in a vigil like nothing he has done before. It is here that he expresses himself in one of his most intimate and vulnerable times of prayer, anticipating the hardship that he would be enduring towards his death on the cross. How do these scenes from the life of Jesus speak to today's experience of human suffering? The setting of Gethsemane Bock notes that Luke's account is found to be shorter, while Matthew and Mark follow closely together. 1 The episode is set to have happened a while after the Passion seder meal in an upper room inside Jerusalem (

Across the globe, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), it has claimed the lives of more than 460,000 people and has infected close to 9 million people as of June 23, 2020. 1 Since March 2020 in the Philippines, Filipinos have had their share of anxiety, uncertainty, fear, and panic over the spread of the COVID-19 virus worldwide. Starting from but a few patients who were linked to travel from Wuhan, China, the problem has rapidly escalated to crises of great proportions. President Rodrigo R. Duterte, from the start, had tasked the local government units (LGUs) and several executive departments to place measures for prevention and public testing to slow down the spread of the virus. With this, LGUs were given the authorization to tap into emergency funds needed for the public health emergency. The Department of Health (DoH) was assisted by the Philippine National Police and other executive departments to facilitate and enforce the measures that were needed. 2 At the onset, this had prompted the lockdown of the National Capital Region (NCR) with a community quarantine, but it graduated towards a stricter enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) over the whole island of Luzon for a month, which restricted public travel on land, sea and air travel. Borders of cities and towns especially in NCR were blocked by checkpoints. People were displaced. Mass gatherings of all sorts were canceled. Schools in all levels, churches, and businesses were forced to explore

In The Concept of Biblical Theology, James Barr distills in his massive 736-page-volume an omnibus of Biblical theology, including its history and developments from the Old Testament purview. He defines the discipline by surveying how various scholars have previously attempted to distinguish it. He laments that there is difficulty in pinpointing one definition and methodology since Biblical theology has often been regarded as ranging from the exegesis of the biblical text and its corollary aspects and stops short of systematic theology. He contends there is a

The story endured, is recognized as Scripture, and many have identified with it. In Redefining Job and the Conundrum of Suffering, Adams relives Job with fresh eyes, realizing that the tensions of the existence of suffering, the church's take on theodicy and the providence of God, and the admission of an imperfect world bear on the reader with centuries of interpretations.
