About | IARC (original) (raw)

Established in 2013 by many of the world’s game rating authorities, the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) provides a globally streamlined age classification process for digital games and mobile apps, helping to ensure that today’s digital consumers, especially parents, have broad access to established and trusted age ratings to help them make informed decisions about what’s appropriate for their families.

Turnkey for Developers

IARC simplifies the process by which developers obtain age ratings from different regions around the world. Game and app storefronts integrate IARC’s Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that provides developers with access to the IARC questionnaire, which once completed, immediately assigns ratings in every region.

Both Global and Local

The IARC questionnaire is collaboratively developed by IARC participating rating authorities and programmed with complex algorithms that generate age ratings reflecting each region’s distinct standards, along with a generic rating for the rest of the world. IARC rating assignments also include content descriptors and interactive elements, identifying games and apps that enable user interaction, offer in-app/game purchases (as well as those that are randomized), collect and share location with other users, and/or provide unrestricted internet.

Scalable to Meet Demand

Today the IARC rating system serves up ratings to over four billion consumers around the world across a broad variety of devices and platforms from game consoles, PC’s, VR headsets, mobile phones, and social platforms, to ecosystems that enable players to create and share their own games. Over three million developers worldwide have had a game or app rated using the IARC system. Over 19 million IARC game and app ratings have been published to date.
