WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Senior guard Brandon Childress set a new career-high with 30 points and became the first player since John Collins in 2017 to reach the milestone, but Wake Forest fell to NC State 91-82 at the LJVM Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

Olivier Sarr had his sixth consecutive double-figure game adding 12 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-best nine boards. Freshman Ody Oguama tallied all three blocks for the Demon Deacons, a career-best.

HOW IT HAPPENED

NC State (7-2, 1-1 ACC) opened the game knocking down four consecutive three pointers to take a 14-4 lead. Wake (5-5, 0-2 ACC) finished the opening half on an 8-0 run over 1:20 to pull the Deacs within seven at 43-36. C.J. Bryce hit a jumper as the buzzer sounded to give the Pack a 45-36 advantage at the break. The Deacons finished the half shooting 55 percent and 57 percent from three.

Childress came out strong for the Deacons, scoring 12 points in the first half with perfect accuracy, going 4-4 from the field, 1-1 from three and 3-3 from the line. He finished the game 10-13 from the field and 5-6 from the three point line.

Oguama connected on a layup to start the second half keeping the Deacs within seven, but the Pack continued to have answers getting back in front by 16 following a three pointer from Braxton Beverly with 5:37 to play.

Behind back-to-back threes from Childress, Wake Forest cut the Pack's lead to five with 29 seconds on the clock. Childress scored his 30th point of the game on a layup, but NC State hit six free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the victory.

NOTEWORTHY

QUOTABLE

"Our early turnovers led to a lot of fast break points for them," head coach Danny Manning said. "We turned the ball over 19 times and it led to a lot of pick six opportunities for them. We forced 17 turnovers but those 17 turnovers didn't equate to as many pick six opportunities until late for us."

UP NEXT

Wake will return to the Joel on Saturday, Dec. 14, to face Xavier in the Skip Prosser Classic. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. on ACC Network.
