Men's Basketball | June 4, 2018
PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University head men's basketball coach Ashley Howard has announced that Scott Spencer (Suffolk, Va.) will transfer into the program and join the Explorers for the 2018-19 season. Spencer previously spent two years at Clemson after a standout high school career in Virginia.
"We are excited to add Scott Spencer to our men's basketball family," Howard said. "Scott is a big-time athlete who has been a part of a great program at Clemson, and who is a proven winner from his time at Blue Ridge School. Scott brings a winning pedigree to La Salle, and we think he will add a lot of valuable experience to our program."
A 6-6 guard, Spencer battled injuries while with the Tigers and was limited to six games as a freshman in 2016-17. Last season, he was a member of a Clemson team that posted 25 wins and advanced to the Sweet 16.
Rated as the No. 24 small forward by ESPN.com and the No. 138 overall prospect in the Class of 2016 by Rivals.com, Spencer spent his final two high school seasons at Blue Ridge School. He was an all-state and all-district selection as he helped lead the Barons to a state championship in 2015. Spencer finished as the program's all-time leader in three-point field goals made.
Spencer joins South Carolina transfer David Beatty (Philadelphia, Pa.), and incoming freshmen Jack Clark (Cheltenham, Pa.), Ed Croswell (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Jared Kimbrough (Neptune, N.J.) as newcomers for first-year head coach Ashley Howard in 2018-19.
