Erguvan (Cercis siliquastrum), manolya (Magnolia soulangeana), söğüt yapraklı ispir (Spiraea sali... more Erguvan (Cercis siliquastrum), manolya (Magnolia soulangeana), söğüt yapraklı ispir (Spiraea salicifolia), Japon ayvası (Chaenomeles japonica ), filbahri (Philadelphus coronarius saxifragaceae), leylak (Syringa vulgaris), oya ağacı (Lagerstroemia indica) ve gülhatmiden (Alcea rosea) alınan yeşil çeliklerin köklenme performansı üzerine IBA uygulamasının etkisi incelenmiştir. Erguvan çeliklerine 8000 diğer türlerden alınan çeliklere ise 2000 ppm IBA uygulaması yapılmıştır. Erguvan çelikleri hem kontrol hem de 8000 ppm IBA uygulamasında düşük oranda ( % 6 ve % 10) bir köklenme başarısı göstermiştir. Japon ayvasında da IBA uygulamasına rağmen düşük ( %33) oranından köklenme olmuştur. 2000 ppm IBA uygulaması ile manolyada % 100, söğüt yapraklı ispirde % 97.7, filbahride % 67.7, leylakta % 73.7, oya ağacından % 61 oranında köklenme elde edilmiştir. Effect of methyl jasmonate treatments on the bioactive compounds and physicochemical quality of 'Fuji' apples. Cien. Inv. Agr. 40(1):201-211. Recently, plant growth regulators have been used for various purposes in apples. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) has significant effects on the physiology, postharvest biology, processing, and chemical composition of apples. In the present study, the effects of MeJAMeJa treatments on the physicochemical quality and bioactive compounds (total antioxidant activity, total phenolics, and total anthocyanins) of 'Fuji' apples were investigated. The following doses of MeJa were used: 0 (control); 1; 120; 2,240; and 4,480 mg L-1. The highest geometric mean diameter, fruit mass, flesh firmness and skin thickness were obtained from the 2,240 mg L-1 MeJA treatment. Fruits harvested from control trees exhibited the highest total soluble solids content (TSSC) and pH, whereas the lowest TSSC and pH values were obtained from the 4,480 mg L-1 MeJA treatment. The titratable acidity was lower in the control as compared to the other treatments. The total phenolics of the fruit flesh decreased with increasing MeJa doses. The highest total antioxidant activity for both the FRAP and TEAC of fruit flesh was obtained from the 1,120 mg L-1 MeJA dose. The total anthocyanin content was higher in the 4,480 mg L-1 MeJA treatment than in the other treatments. Hue angles for both the sun-and shade-exposed sides of the fruit skin and flesh were lower in the 4,480 mg L-1 MeJA treatment as compared to the other treatments. Apples without full color formation are sold at lower prices in markets, which results in significant economic losses for producers. MeJA may be used as an efficient treatment to promote color formation in apple species with weak coloring due to genetic and climate conditions.

In this study, the effect of different temperature and humidity content of rooting medium on root... more In this study, the effect of different temperature and humidity content of rooting medium on rooting percentage of black mulberry hard wood cutting was investigated. For this purpose, different temperature and humidity contents were applied. In the result of the study, the effect of interaction of temperature x humidity and temperature on rooting ratio was not significant. On the other hand, humidity content caused significant changes on rooting percentage. The highest rooting ratio (63,11%) was observed in cutting planted in medium with 40% humidity. The lowest rooting percentages were obtained from two other media contained higher humidity compared to medium with 40% humidity. Both temperature and humidity treatment caused significant changes in root length. Among humidity treatment, 80% humidity produced the longest roots. The aim of this study was to determine the chemical and mineral contents of eighteen walnut genot... more The aim of this study was to determine the chemical and mineral contents of eighteen walnut genotypes which were newly selected from Hizan (Bitlis) located in Eastern Anatolia. The protein, total fat, total oil (saturated and unsaturated oil) compositions and mineral contents were investigated. It was found that the average value for protein was 18.1% and for total fat was 58.2%. Saturated fatty acids composition values were less than the values of monounsaturated fatty acids composition and polyunsaturated fatty acids composition in all genotypes. Among the identified fatty acids, linoleic acid (50.58-66.60%) was the predominant fatty acid followed by oleic acid (14.88-28.71%) and linolenic acid (9.16-16.42%) in all genotypes. The other fatty acids were found in trace contents. The minimum and maximum macronutrient contents of walnut were determined as mg100 g-1 for K (911.0-684.3), P (434.7-356.2), Ca (756.7-388.2), Mg (444.0-330.8) and Na (48.9-26.1) while minimum and maximum micronutrient contents of walnut were determined for Fe (6.6-4.3), Cu (2.8-1.8), Mn (5.7-2.7) and Zn (4.3-2.7). The potassium contents were found to be higher than those of the other minerals in all kernels of the walnuts.

Bu amacla tahmini hasat tarihinden 4 hafta once 150 ve 225 mg L–1 aminoetoksivinilglisin, 2 hafta once ise 10 ve 20 mg L–1 naftalen asetik asit, deneme agaclarina puskurtulmustur. Calismada, hasat onu dokumu (%) ve bazi meyve kalite ozellikleri [suda cozunebilir kuru madde (SCKM, %), pH, meyve eti sertligi (kg), titre edilebilir asitlik (TA, g malik asit 100 mL-1), meyve rengi ozellikleri (L*, Kroma, hue°)] belirlenmistir. Tahmini hasat tarihinde AVG uygulamalari dokumu azaltmada kontrol ve NAA uygulamalarina gore onemli duzeyde (P<0.05) farkli bulunmustur. AVG ve NAA uygulamalari meyvenin SCKM icerigini pozitif yonde etkilemistir. Genel olarak pH degeri tahmini hasada dogru azalis gostermistir. Tahmini hasada dogru et sertliginde dogrusal bir azalis tespit edilmis, ancak AVG’nin artan dozlari et sertligini pozitif yonde etkilemistir.

Effects of pre-harvest aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG, 250 mg L–1) and zinc (0.3% ZnSO4) treatments... more Effects of pre-harvest aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG, 250 mg L–1) and zinc (0.3% ZnSO4) treatments on pre-harvest fruit drops, internal ethylene concentration (IEC), flesh firmness, color characteristics (L*, chroma and hue angle), soluble solids content (SSC), acidity, total phenolics, antioxidant activity, flesh and leaf micronutrients and macronutrients of ‘William’s Pride’ apples, were investigated in this study. AVG was sprayed 4 weeks before the anticipated harvest date and Zn was sprayed when the fruits reached the size of a walnut. As compared to the control, both the single AVG and zinc treatments significantly reduced the pre-harvest drops. However, combined AVG + Zinc treatments were found to be more effective in reducing the pre-harvest drops. A Study on Determining Some of the Yield and Quality Properties of Ürgüp Sarısı Plum (Prunus domestica L.) Grown under Nevşehir Conditions

This study has been conducted with the purpose of determining some yield and quality properties o... more This study has been conducted with the purpose of determining some yield and quality properties of Ürgüp Sarısı Plum (Prunus domestica L.) grown locally in Nevşehir’s Ürgüp district. Fruit samples have been acquired from a producer’s orchard reproduced through bud eye from various natural plantations in Ürgüp district. Trees have been planted with 6 m × 6 m intervals and are 7 years of age. The study has been conducted during the 2015–2016 period on randomized blocks experimental design with three recurrences and with five trees per recurrence. Fruit samples have been harvested in August 2016 and immediately transferred in ice boxes to Mersin Erdemli Alata Horticultural Research Institute Laboratories. They have been kept at 0 °C until the time of analysis. Fruit samples have been subjected to analyses such as fruit weight, fruit width, fruit length, seed weight, yield per tree, pulp hardness, fruit acidity, water soluble dry matter amount, fruit colour values (L*, a*, b*), antioxidant, total phenol, sugar contents (glucose, fructose, sucrose). Among the genotypes, U1 had the bulkiest fruit, U7 had the highest yield per tree, U8 had the brightest fruit colour, U3 had the closest colour to red and U8 had the highest tone of yellow. In plum genotypes, U4 had the highest amount of antioxidant, U2 contained the highest total phenol, vitamin C and fructose and U6 contained the highest glucose and sucrose. U7 has been observed to be noteworthy in terms of yield, while genotype, biochemical characteristics were noteworthy in U2, U4, U6 genotypes. In conclusion, considering all parameters reviewed in the study, it has been decided that U7, U6, and U2 genotypes could be promising under Nevşehir conditions.

Bu çalışmada, üç farklı armut çeşidinde (Akça, Santa Maria ve Deveci) yapraktan üre uygulamasının... more Bu çalışmada, üç farklı armut çeşidinde (Akça, Santa Maria ve Deveci) yapraktan üre uygulamasının verim, meyve kalitesi ve bioaktif bileşikler üzerine etkisinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Tam çiçeklenmeden 30 ve 60 gün sonra üre içeren solüsyon (% 0 ve % 0,1 CH 4 N 2 O) tüm ağaçlara iki kez püskürtülmüştür. Kontrol uygulaması ile karşılaştırıldığında, verim, meyve ağırlığı ve geometrik ortalama çap, üre uygulaması ile önemli oranda artmıştır. Renk özellikleri, suda çözünebilir kuru madde, pH ve titre edilebilir asitlik değerleri üzerine üre uygulamasının istatistiksel bakımdan bir etkisi olmamıştır. Üre uygulaması, meyve eti sertliğini ve toplam fenolik madde içeriğini önemli oranda azaltmıştır. Tüm çeşitlerin toplam antioksidan aktivitesi üre uygulaması ile azalmıştır. Üre uygulaması; Akça ve Santa Maria çeşidinde naringenin, Deveci çeşidinde ise rutin içeriğini önemli oranda artırmıştır. Üre uygulaması, tüm çeşitlerin azot içeriğini, Deveci çeşidinde çinko, Santa Maria çeşidinde ise potasyum, kalsiyum ve magnezyum içeriğini de önemli oranda artırmıştır.

In this research, the effects of pre-harvest 0.25% iron treatments on yield, some fruit quality p... more In this research, the effects of pre-harvest 0.25% iron treatments on yield, some fruit quality parameters, biochemical properties and micronutrient content of 'Santa Maria', 'Deveci' and 'Akça' pear cultivars were investigated. Effects of iron treatments on yield were found to be significant. While fruit firmness decreased with iron treatments in 'Santa Maria' and 'Akça' pears, the value increased in 'Deveci' cultivar. Besides, total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity also decreased with iron treatments. Effects of iron treatments on individual phenolics were not found to be significant. It was concluded that foliar iron treatments had positive effects in all cultivars. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of different AVG (aminoethoxyvinylglycine) ... more This study was carried out to investigate the effects of different AVG (aminoethoxyvinylglycine) treatments on pre-harvest fruit drop rates and ripening levels of ‘Jonagold’ apples. A total of 225 mg L-1 AVG dose was applied at once in a single application at different times or divided into doses and applied different times. Compared to control treatment, entire AVG treatments increased fruit removal force and significantly decreased the pre-harvest drop rates. AVG treatments applied at once (225 mg L-1) 8 or 4 weeks before the anticipated harvest time were found to be more effective than the divided treatments. AVG treatments inhibited ethylene biosynthesis and such an inhibition was more distinctive in single 225 mg L-1 treatments. AVG treatments decreased flesh softening, starch degradation rates and consequently retarded fruit ripening. Bu amaçla 150, 300, 600 mg L -1 aminoethoxyvinylglycine ve 20 mg L -1 naftalen asetik asit, tahmini hasat tarihinden 4 hafta önce deneme ağaçlarına püskürtülmüştür. Çalışmada kümülatif döküm yüzdesi (%), kopma direnci (N), nişasta indeksi, meyve rengi (L*, C*, h°), meyve ağırlığı (g), suda çözünebilir kurumadde miktarı [SÇKM, (%)], pH, titre edilebilir asitlik (g.malik asit 100 -1 ) ve meyve eti sertliği (N) ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Tahmini hasat tarihinde AVG'nin 300 ve 600 mg L -1 dozları dökümü azaltmada kontrol ve NAA uygulamasından önemli düzeyde (P<0.05) farklı bulunmuştur. Kopma direnci, AVG'nin artan dozları ile artmıştır. Tahmini hasatta ve 15 Eylül'de, nişasta indeksi bakımından uygulamalar arasında fark tespit edilememiştir. Tahmini hasat tarihinde AVG'nin artan dozları ile meyve ağırlığı doğrusal olarak artmıştır. Tahmini hasat tarihinde, AVG ve NAA meyvenin SÇKM'sini pozitif yönde etkilemiştir. Genel olarak pH miktarı tahmini hasada doğru azalış göstermiştir. Tahmini hasatta, titre edilebilir asitlik değeri bakımından hem AVG hem de NAA kontrol ile benzer bulunmuştur. Tahmini hasada doğru et sertliğinde doğrusal bir azalış tespit edilmiş, ancak AVG'nin artan dozları et sertliğini pozitif yönde etkilemiştir.

The effects of five training systems on tree growth, yield, and some fruit characteristics were a... more The effects of five training systems on tree growth, yield, and some fruit characteristics were assessed for ‘Fuji’ apple grafted on M.9 rootstock for the first five years in Tokat, Turkey. The trees were trained in one of five ways: Slender Spindle (SS, 4762 trees ha -1 ), Vertical Axis (VA, 2857 trees ha -1 ), HyTec (HT, 1904 trees ha -1 ) and two different tree densities of super spindle (L-Sup S with 5,000 trees ha -1 ; H-Sup S with 10.000 trees ha -1 ). Trunk Cross-sectional Area (TCA), canopy diameter and canopy volume were higher in low tree density systems (HT and VA) than in high tree density systems (SS, L-Sup S and H-Sup S). Annual and cumulative yields per tree over the first cropping years were higher in VA and HT than in SS, L-Sup S or H-Sup S. Yield per unit area was the highest in HSup S in every year due to the higher number of trees per hectare. This study was conducted to determine the effects of increasing aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) con... more This study was conducted to determine the effects of increasing aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) concentrations on pre-harvest drop and fruit quality parameters of ‘Braeburn’ apples. Results revealed that AVG treatments increased the fruit removal force and significantly decreased pre-harvest drops compared to control treatment. AVG was found to be more effective in controlling pre-harvest drops than naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). There were significant differences among AVG doses with regard to preharvest drop rates. The lowest ratio of pre-harvest drop was observed in 400 mg/l AVG treatment. All AVG doses decreased ethylene biosynthesis. Inhibition of ethylene biosynthesis was higher in 300 and 400 mg/l AVG treatments than the other AVG treatment. AVG retarded fruit ripening of ‘Braeburn’ apples. On the other hand, humidity content caused significant changes on rooting percentage. The highest rooting ratio (63,11%) was observed in cutting planted in medium with 40% humidity. The aim of this study was to determine the chemical and mineral contents of eighteen walnut genot... more The aim of this study was to determine the chemical and mineral contents of eighteen walnut genotypes which were newly selected from Hizan (Bitlis) located in Eastern Anatolia. The protein, total fat, total oil (saturated and unsaturated oil) compositions and mineral contents were investigated. It was found that the average value for protein was 18.1% and for total fat was 58.2%. Saturated fatty acids composition values were less than the values of monounsaturated fatty acids composition and polyunsaturated fatty acids composition in all genotypes. Among the identified fatty acids, linoleic acid (50.58-66.60%) was the predominant fatty acid followed by oleic acid (14.88-28.71%) and linolenic acid (9.16-16.42%) in all genotypes. The other fatty acids were found in trace contents. The minimum and maximum macronutrient contents of walnut were determined as mg100 g-1 for K (911.0-684.3), P (434.7-356.2), Ca (756.7-388.2), Mg (444.0-330.8) and Na (48.9-26.1) while minimum and maximum micronutrient contents of walnut were determined for Fe (6.6-4.3), Cu (2.8-1.8), Mn (5.7-2.7) and Zn (4.3-2.7). The potassium contents were found to be higher than those of the other minerals in all kernels of the walnuts.

Bu amacla tahmini hasat tarihinden 4 hafta once 150 ve 225 mg L–1 aminoetoksivinilglisin, 2 hafta once ise 10 ve 20 mg L–1 naftalen asetik asit, deneme agaclarina puskurtulmustur. Calismada, hasat onu dokumu (%) ve bazi meyve kalite ozellikleri [suda cozunebilir kuru madde (SCKM, %), pH, meyve eti sertligi (kg), titre edilebilir asitlik (TA, g malik asit 100 mL-1), meyve rengi ozellikleri (L*, Kroma, hue°)] belirlenmistir. Tahmini hasat tarihinde AVG uygulamalari dokumu azaltmada kontrol ve NAA uygulamalarina gore onemli duzeyde (P<0.05) farkli bulunmustur. AVG ve NAA uygulamalari meyvenin SCKM icerigini pozitif yonde etkilemistir. Genel olarak pH degeri tahmini hasada dogru azalis gostermistir. Tahmini hasada dogru et sertliginde dogrusal bir azalis tespit edilmis, ancak AVG’nin artan dozlari et sertligini pozitif yonde etkilemistir.

AVG was sprayed 4 weeks before the anticipated harvest date and Zn was sprayed when the fruits reached the size of a walnut. As compared to the control, both the single AVG and zinc treatments significantly reduced the pre-harvest drops. However, combined AVG + Zinc treatments were found to be more effective in reducing the pre-harvest drops. This study has been conducted with the purpose of determining some yield and quality properties o... more This study has been conducted with the purpose of determining some yield and quality properties of Ürgüp Sarısı Plum (Prunus domestica L.) grown locally in Nevşehir’s Ürgüp district. Fruit samples have been acquired from a producer’s orchard reproduced through bud eye from various natural plantations in Ürgüp district. Trees have been planted with 6 m × 6 m intervals and are 7 years of age. The study has been conducted during the 2015–2016 period on randomized blocks experimental design with three recurrences and with five trees per recurrence. Fruit samples have been harvested in August 2016 and immediately transferred in ice boxes to Mersin Erdemli Alata Horticultural Research Institute Laboratories. They have been kept at 0 °C until the time of analysis. Fruit samples have been subjected to analyses such as fruit weight, fruit width, fruit length, seed weight, yield per tree, pulp hardness, fruit acidity, water soluble dry matter amount, fruit colour values (L*, a*, b*), antioxidant, total phenol, sugar contents (glucose, fructose, sucrose). Among the genotypes, U1 had the bulkiest fruit, U7 had the highest yield per tree, U8 had the brightest fruit colour, U3 had the closest colour to red and U8 had the highest tone of yellow. In plum genotypes, U4 had the highest amount of antioxidant, U2 contained the highest total phenol, vitamin C and fructose and U6 contained the highest glucose and sucrose. U7 has been observed to be noteworthy in terms of yield, while genotype, biochemical characteristics were noteworthy in U2, U4, U6 genotypes. In conclusion, considering all parameters reviewed in the study, it has been decided that U7, U6, and U2 genotypes could be promising under Nevşehir conditions.

Tam çiçeklenmeden 30 ve 60 gün sonra üre içeren solüsyon (% 0 ve % 0,1 CH 4 N 2 O) tüm ağaçlara iki kez püskürtülmüştür. Kontrol uygulaması ile karşılaştırıldığında, verim, meyve ağırlığı ve geometrik ortalama çap, üre uygulaması ile önemli oranda artmıştır. Renk özellikleri, suda çözünebilir kuru madde, pH ve titre edilebilir asitlik değerleri üzerine üre uygulamasının istatistiksel bakımdan bir etkisi olmamıştır. Üre uygulaması, meyve eti sertliğini ve toplam fenolik madde içeriğini önemli oranda azaltmıştır. Tüm çeşitlerin toplam antioksidan aktivitesi üre uygulaması ile azalmıştır. Üre uygulaması; Akça ve Santa Maria çeşidinde naringenin, Deveci çeşidinde ise rutin içeriğini önemli oranda artırmıştır. Üre uygulaması, tüm çeşitlerin azot içeriğini, Deveci çeşidinde çinko, Santa Maria çeşidinde ise potasyum, kalsiyum ve magnezyum içeriğini de önemli oranda artırmıştır.

In this research, the effects of pre-harvest 0.25% iron treatments on yield, some fruit quality p... more In this research, the effects of pre-harvest 0.25% iron treatments on yield, some fruit quality parameters, biochemical properties and micronutrient content of 'Santa Maria', 'Deveci' and 'Akça' pear cultivars were investigated. Effects of iron treatments on yield were found to be significant. While fruit firmness decreased with iron treatments in 'Santa Maria' and 'Akça' pears, the value increased in 'Deveci' cultivar. Besides, total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity also decreased with iron treatments. Effects of iron treatments on individual phenolics were not found to be significant. It was concluded that foliar iron treatments had positive effects in all cultivars. A total of 225 mg L-1 AVG dose was applied at once in a single application at different times or divided into doses and applied different times. Compared to control treatment, entire AVG treatments increased fruit removal force and significantly decreased the pre-harvest drop rates. AVG treatments applied at once (225 mg L-1) 8 or 4 weeks before the anticipated harvest time were found to be more effective than the divided treatments. AVG treatments inhibited ethylene biosynthesis and such an inhibition was more distinctive in single 225 mg L-1 treatments. AVG treatments decreased flesh softening, starch degradation rates and consequently retarded fruit ripening. The trees were trained in one of five ways: Slender Spindle (SS, 4762 trees ha -1 ), Vertical Axis (VA, 2857 trees ha -1 ), HyTec (HT, 1904 trees ha -1 ) and two different tree densities of super spindle (L-Sup S with 5,000 trees ha -1 ; H-Sup S with 10.000 trees ha -1 ). Trunk Cross-sectional Area (TCA), canopy diameter and canopy volume were higher in low tree density systems (HT and VA) than in high tree density systems (SS, L-Sup S and H-Sup S). Annual and cumulative yields per tree over the first cropping years were higher in VA and HT than in SS, L-Sup S or H-Sup S. This study was conducted to determine the effects of increasing aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) con... more This study was conducted to determine the effects of increasing aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) concentrations on pre-harvest drop and fruit quality parameters of ‘Braeburn’ apples. Results revealed that AVG treatments increased the fruit removal force and significantly decreased pre-harvest drops compared to control treatment. AVG was found to be more effective in controlling pre-harvest drops than naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). There were significant differences among AVG doses with regard to preharvest drop rates. The lowest ratio of pre-harvest drop was observed in 400 mg/l AVG treatment. All AVG doses decreased ethylene biosynthesis. Inhibition of ethylene biosynthesis was higher in 300 and 400 mg/l AVG treatments than the other AVG treatment. AVG retarded fruit ripening of ‘Braeburn’ apples.
