The GParted team is pleased to announce a new stable release of GParted Live.
This release includes GParted 1.7.0, updated packages, and other improvements.
Items of note include:
- Only amd64 (x86-64 bit) images are available going forward:

Dropping i386 kernel packages
The i386 Linux kernel packages were dropped in our upstream, Debian, Sid repo. Hence i686/i686-pae GParted live will be no more in the future. From this release, only amd64 (x86-64) release will be available. - Includes GParted 1.7.0
- Implemented a mechanism to reduce the possibility of random order of block devices in GParted live.
- Based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2025/Jul/12)
- Linux image updated to 6.12.37-1
X Desktop GUI fails to display with default boot options?
Try Other modes of GParted Live => GParted Live (Safe graphics setting, vga-normal).

- A minimum of 640 MB of RAM is needed to use all the features of the GParted application

Items of note include:
- Removed package cpufrequtils from lists of live system. It's not in the Debian repo anymore.
- Package pm-utils is included now. Thanks to Nono for this suggestion.
- Force to use zenity as the dialog in GParted live's program gl-screenshot. No more using gdialog or Xdialog since they are not available in Debian repo. Ref: GParted Live screenshot icon does nothing
- Based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2024/Sep/28)
- Linux image updated to 6.10.11-1
- A minimum of 512 MB of RAM is needed to use all the features of the GParted application
Note that the default boot options might fail to display an X Desktop, such as on old NVidia graphic cards. The workaround is to select_Other modes of GParted Live_ and choose GParted Live (Safe graphics setting, vga-normal).

The GParted team is proud to announce the twentieth anniversary of GParted.
The first public release of GParted was version 0.0.3 on August 26th, 2004. Over the past 20 years, much has happened. Following are some statistics:
- Over 282 people have contributed to GParted
- Available in over 60 different language translations
- Included in many GNU/Linux distributions
- Used in over 250 countries around the world
- Downloaded over 34 million times from SourceForge alone
To mark the occasion we asked a question and following are responses shared by some key contributors.
Why is GParted important to you?
Steven Shiau - This is the way I contribute to the FOSS world. I have learned many things from the maintenance of GParted live, and would like to keep learning from that.
Emmanuel Soundias - I met GParted soon after knowing Linux O.S. It was the 3rd year of GParted when I entered the team.
Along with the obvious utilitarian character for my personal computing needs, it allows me to help friends and family on a special non trivial subject.
GParted has been for me the initial step into the Free Open-Source software world. Although partitioning isn’t an every day’s subject, it helped me in some degree to better understand the software-hardware interaction.
Curtis Gedak - GParted enables me to follow my desire to contribute to the Free Software community.
Twenty years is a long time for a volunteer project to stay active.
I am proud of our team. I am proud of the graphical partition editor that we enhance, maintain and support.
