The few studies conducted so far have been limited to very specific geographic areas (USA), which makes it necessary to find out what is happening in other regions that are not part of mainstream academia, and where repositories play a decisive role in the visibility of scholarly production. The main objective of this study is to ascertain the presence and visibility of Latin American repositories in Google and Google Scholar through the application of page count and visibility indicators. For a sample of 137 repositories, the results indicate that the indexing ratio is low in Google, and virtually nonexistent in Google Scholar; they also indicate a complete lack of correspondence between the repository records and the data produced by these two search tools. These results are mainly attributable to limitations arising from the use of description schemas that are incompatible with Google Scholar (repository design) and the reliability of web indicators (search engines). We conclude that neither Google nor Google Scholar accurately represent the actual size of open access content published by Latin American repositories; this may indicate a non-indexed, hidden side to OA, which could be limiting the dissemination and consumption of open access scholarly literature.

Google Scholar Metrics only displays publications that have published at least 100 papers and have received at least one citation in the last five years (2009-2013). The searches were conducted between the 15 th and 22 nd of December, 2014. A total of 1208 proceedings have been identified.

The case of the system “Departments of the Area of Health Sciences of the University of Navarre (Spain)” has been studied in relation to the system “Scientific Community in the Health Sciences”, from the perspective of input/output models (factors/response). It is concluded that the RSM reveals the causal relationships between factors and responses through the construction of polynomial mathematical models. Similarly, quasiexperimental designs are proposed, these permitting scientific activity to be analysed with minimum effort and cost and high accuracy.

This work aims to indicate the preliminary results from 30 May 2019 obtained with the survey conducted with Spanish university researchers and teachers from the Philosophy and Moral Philosophy fields during the Spanish Association of Ethics and Political Philosophy (AEEFP, in Spanish) conference. The intention is to know the opinions and perceptions of researchers of these specialities about scientific publications, bibliometric indicators and research evaluation systems. The survey contains 24 questions (23 closed and 1 open). In a first study phase, 449 researchers were invited to participate in an online survey, of whom 145 answered (an overall response rate of 32.5%), with significant differences between Philosophy (23.6%) and Moral Philosophy (50.6%). Researchers belonging to 32 universities and all professional categories participated (pre- and post-PhD, associate, assistant professors, contracted doctors, tenured university lecturers, professors). These results will remain provisional until the answers obtained in the second phase have been completely analysed. However, it is already noticed that very interesting results about scientific publishing and the participants’ perceptions of the systems used to evaluate scientific publications and researchers’ performance are being obtained. Some worrying signs have been detected of bad practices spreading when communicating research results.
