intro post X posted to all my parenting communitiesHi! My name is Rachel and I am 21 yrs old. I have a bf and no babies yet but im really interested in learning all the tricks and rules and different ways of raising babies so that i dont make those mistakes when i do have children of my own. I have been around babies all my life and have alot of experience! my bfs cousin has a baby (my adopted nephew) and right now he is 10 days old and back in the hospital (diarea, blood in urine, early stages of pink eye) and so obviously im stressing now. I will help raise this baby since the mom is a year younger than I am.I hope this qualifies me to be a member of this community. I know several tricks that i have found to share if asked. Im just looking forward on learning about all the other ways of raising a baby and figuring out which one i want to follow or if i want to do a mix of them all! (Comment on this) |

I must confess that the logic of this decision defies me. It is one thing entirely to suspend someone for graphic obscenity, particularly of a violent nature (which I've seen plenty of in the 6 years that I've been a member of livejournal's community), but I can't fathom what could be so offensive about something so NATURAL as a mother feeding her child that would warrant permanent removal! Some of us mothers have been members of the community for a very long time and many of us have been paid members at one time or another, and this action just feels like a slap in the face.I am one of those mothers. I have a year and a half old son whom, I am proud to say, still nurses heartily. I have another baby on the way, and I hope to have as much success the second time around. My children will nurse until they're ready to stop, and in the state of Kansas, their right to nurse anywhere they please is sanctioned. All over the world, breastfeeding is not only respected as a right, but revered as something beautiful and sacred and cherished -- it has only been in recent decades in western countries, particularly the United States, that breastfeeding has become something of an "abomination." We mothers have been working so hard to re-establish the sanctity of the nursing relationship that so many in the rest of the world take for granted, it's heartbreaking that a company such as yours, which has been so progressive in so many other ways, would turn on us.I had been considering becoming a paid member again after a very long lapse. Your help Hello.I’m not particularly sure how to start this post, or even if such a post is allowed in this type of community, but I thought I’d give it a shot because I think it’s important.I’ve never really cared for kids, and I certainly never thought I’d be a parent (both being gay and not liking children), but as I’ve become older, the notion of having a kid has grown on me. I guess time will tell. I have a good relationship with both of my parents, so I like to think they did a pretty good job.Anyway, as I’m cross-posting this to a variety of parenting communities, the major content is behind an lj-cut for your convenience. i'm 29 weeks pregnant. i had an ultrasound 3 months ago that said i was having a boy. i had an ultrasound on friday and the tech said there was no way there was a penis. boy? girl? strange ambiguous being? only time will tell, i suppose... (Comment on this) |

moby wrap users so i've been practicing with the moby wrap since my son was born on the 3rdthe cradle hold seemed to work a couple of times, and i'll admit, he'll still fall asleep that waybut he seems uncomfortable and possibly too big for that particular wrap-styleso today we tried the hug hold and ta-da! it worked fabulously...i even thought i could discreetly nurse him that waythen he woke up and that wasn't happeningso what do you fans of the moby wrap do with a newborn?do you remove your babies for feedings, or am i missing something?x-posted to a few places (2 Comments |Comment on this) |

Hi, everyone. I just joined this group and am thrilled to see other parents who are a similar mindset to myself. I am 26 years old and I have an 8-month old daughter who is the sunshine of my world (and, sometimes, the middle-of-the-night moon!). I consider my parenting style somewhat alternative compared to society's standards, but also pretty reasonable and common sense. I try to practice attachment parenting as best as I can, but I am a single mom, so I work, as well as attend graduate school. I also have joint custody of my daughter with her dad. Let's just say that he doesn't neccessarily agree with my parenting techniques completely, but he tries to keep an open mind and choose his battles wisely. We try to be as flexible with each other as possible, so that our child has as much stability as possible between our households. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know everyone here! Congested Baby My 11 month old is terribly congested, and I'm wondering what I can do for him short of an over the counter medication. I'm nursing him plenty and giving him water, because I know extra fluids are necessary when you've got a cold. But he's just so stuffed up. hi. this is a really quick introduction. i'm 15 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. my first is 15 months. i recently got married to the love of my life. i've been with her (yes her) since i got pregnant with my son in october 2003. (long story there) anyway, our baby together is due on april 12. i really want to have him/her on his/her due date because it'd be cool to share a birthday with amy ray. Help clean up our enviorment-write your Senator!!! The scientific consensus is clear. The burning of fossil fuel (oil, coal, and natural gas) and deforestation, are warming our planet by adding more heat-trapping gases to Earth's atmosphere. This warming is driving changes in our climate that will have significant negative impacts on our children's and grandchildren's health, safety, and quality of life as well as our own. And, as the latest science clearly shows, the longer we wait to deal with climate change, the more difficult it becomes and the more serious the consequences. Thus, we have a choice: act now to begin to reduce heat-trapping gas emissions and have to deal with some, mostly manageable, changes in our climate, or continue to pollute our atmosphere with heat-trapping gases and leave our children to face the most serious consequences of climate change.The build up of heat-trapping gases in our atmosphere is changing our climate. These gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) act like a blanket, trapping heat and warming Earth. The more of these gases we release, the thicker that blanket becomes. Two scenarios for emissions later this century have been explored here: a lower-emissions path, which envisions a transition to clean energy technologies; and a higher emissions path, which assumes continued, intensive reliance on fossil fuels. It is clear that the severity of climate change impacts on California will depend on the amount of future emissions. Thankfully, if we act today to implement the steps laid out in The Solutions, we can start ourselves on a path towards an even lower emissions future.California is an important test case for exploring the impacts of climate changes under conditions where we implement climate solutions now or put off significant action until later. The state's various climate zones and diverse ecosystems are central to its economic strength and quality of life. Perhaps most vital are the state's water resources, essential to California's agricultural economy, expanding population, and unique habitats. These resources are already scarce and likely to be even more strained as the climate warms.Furthermore, as the most populous state in the nation and the fifth largest economy in the world, California is itself a significant emitter of heat-trapping gases, and has a responsibility to begin reducing this global warming pollution as rapidly as possible. Ok guys I need carrier help. Ian is getting too heavy for me to carry long periods in the Baby Bjorn we borrowed from a friend. He is getting too tall for the Maya sling because it cuts the circulation off in his little legs.There are tons of carriers out there and I just don't know which one to get. I would love one that I can convert from front to back but they are usually harder to get the baby on in the back position. Anyone used the Kozy Carrier, Ultimate Baby Wrap, Moby Wrap, or Baby Bundler?I want something that isn't too expensive (but I am willing to pay for quality) that can be warn front with little babies, back with bigger babies and toddlers. Being able to nurse in it when they are small is a plus but not necessary. It also has to be comfy for someone who is not a size 2. I need to be able to get the baby in and out of it by myself including on my back and be able to bend over and not feel like they are going to fall out. I dontt know how many of you use cloth pads for yourself, but I do, and I wish I could buy more of the type I love. Unfortunatly she is closed to custom oprders right now. And the in stock ones are always sold out when I check. I want more mama cloth dang it!! I kind of want to put my 2 year old back on cloth so potty training might be easier...I wish I could vent about this to my friends, but they just look at me funny! (4 Comments |Comment on this) |
