Dr. Hasrat Arjjumend is currently placed as Mitacs Elevate Fellow at Université de Montréal Faculté de Droit, and associated in honorary capacities as Senior Fellow at Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL), McGill University Faculty of Law, Montreal (Canada), as Visiting Fellow at Yuroslav Mudryi National Law University of Ukraine, Kharkiv, and as Senior Visiting Fellow at Luhansk National Agrarian University, Kharkiv (Ukraine).

He possesses 25 years experience of research, training, teaching, field action and organizational management, dealing with multidisciplinary areas of Environment, Natural Resources, Governance, Development, and Indigenous Rights. In his credit are about 125 publications of varied types. In the past he acted, inter alia, as Assistant Professor (Natural Resources & Environmental Management) at Ethiopian Civil Service University Addis Ababa, Dean/Faculty at FES Prakriti Karyashala Rural College (Rajasthan Campus India), Executive Director of Grassroots India Trust, Project Director of EU-supported IEUPC Project, Senior Program Officer at Society for Participatory Research in Asia, Research Officer at NCHSE, Biologist at Wildlife Institute of India/Govt. of India, CCV Fellow at WWF-India and few others. He also facilitated the evolution of the Environmental Governance Program at Academy of International Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia Central University, New Delhi. During last over 15 years, he contributed as Visiting/Guest Faculty to several institutions in India, apart from being a Consultant to leading NGOs. Moreover, he was Social-Impact Fellow 2008-10 in Mumbai and Commonwealth Fellow 2007 in England, apart from being the recipient of UNESCO-Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation 2010 (Asia-Pacific) and other recognitions. He possesses working exposure across half of India’s geography (13 out of 25 states). As a social entrepreneur, he had created a training institute for South Asia [www.grassrootsinstitute.in\] where large number of people from government/non-government organizations of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan received trainings. As a professional and academic, he mentored above 45 interns/students who belonged to Germany, USA, Poland, UK, Holland, Greece, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, China, Colombia, Italy, Spain, Latvia, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, and India’s premier institutions like IRMA, TISS.

Educationally, he attained PhD International Studies (International Biodiversity Governance), PG Diploma in Environmental Law, MPhil in Natural Resource Management, MSc in Environmental Science, MA in Public Administration, and BSc Hons in Bioscience. Additionally, he received advanced practical trainings from UK, Sweden, Thailand, Russia, India, Netherlands and USA. His current areas of academic & action interests include: Agrarian Laws; Agroecology; Synthetic Biology; Rangeland Ecosystems and Pastoral Livelihoods; Governance of Grazing Commons; Community Conserved Areas and Policies; Governance of Natural Resources; Nagoya Protocol and National ABS Laws; Resource Rights of Indigenous People; Water & Wetlands Conservation and Management.
