Prince Harry, Meghan Markle in 'Greek Island Stopover' - GreekReporter.com (original) (raw)

Rumors that Britain’s Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle could be visiting Greece ahead of their May wedding has set social media on fire.

Although there has been no official confirmation, a U.K. newspaper report claims the pair will spend time on the island of Zakynthos — albeit for a one-day stopover.

One business owner, hotelier Spiros Lougaris, took to Facebook to express his happiness at the possible royal visit to the party island:

“We have just been informed that His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales (familiarly known and loved as Prince Harry) and Meghan Markle will be arriving in Zakynthos on a ONE DAY stopover of a trip in early May PRIOR to their wedding.

“It is an enormous pleasure and honour for the whole island and of course for our friend Maria Drogitis that will be their personal guide, the Municipality stakeholders and all residents and visitors, that share the same enthusiasm for our beautiful island of Zakynthos!”

If true, this is the second visit to Greece by British royalty this year. Earlier, it was confirmed that Harry’s father Prince Charles and his wife Camilla accepted an invitation by the president of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos for an official visit to Greece in the same month.

It will be the first time in modern Greek history that members of the British royal family are official guests in the country.

Queen Elizabeth II has traveled to more than 100 countries but she never visited Greece, the birthplace of her husband, Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, as head of state.
