Listens: Hybrid 'Lights Go Down Knives Come Out'
So far it's been a pretty lazy day. Got up sometime in the afternoon, fished out Hybrid's Morning Sci-Fi and set up my CD player, amp and soundcard to rip the hidden 'track 0'.
I'm in two minds about this method of hiding tracks on CDs - many CD players won't play them because officially the space the track is hidden in is the 'lead-in' to the first track. Even my CD-ROM drive won't extract the raw sectors (it is, I'm told, a firmware thing) - hence the analogue ripping. It's a clever stunt - but it's not like you're going to stumble across them without some clue to their existence (to access them on a compatible player, you have to start track 1 and then hold down rewind).
What started out as a single rip, however, turned into several. In my collection, I've found:
- Bloc Party Silent Alarm - untitled instrumental
- David Gray White Ladder - Can't Get Through To Myself
- Hybrid Morning Sci-Fi - Lights Go Down Knives Come Out
- Lamb Fear Of Fours - Lullaby (Instrumental)
- Lemon Jelly '64-'95 - untitled spoken word
- They Might Be Giants Factory Showroom - Token Back To Brooklyn
Anyone know of any more I might own?
