A small slice of weird:
Last week, I opened a new box of contact lenses (I wear daily disposable lenses and have them delivered by mail) and was surprised to see they were of a slightly stronger prescription than I was used to. It struck me as odd but, on putting a pair in, they seemed much sharper than my previous lenses and were comfortable to work in. I put it down to the contact lens company taking 11 months to catch up to my last prescription change.
Today I went in for my annual contact lens check and eye test only to discover that, in fact, my usual prescription was still the current one and I had been sent this new prescription in error. Well I say in error but what makes it weird is that the new prescription is exactly right. My eyes have changed to precisely that prescription.
All a coincidence, of course, but it threw my optician completely.
Addendum: I also need new glasses which the optician's salesperson was quick to attempt to sell me on the spot. I immediately derailed her by pointing out that, yet again, all she had to offer were minuscule variations on the current 'fashionable' frames - most of which make me look like I'm permanently scowling because of my heavy eyebrows. To demonstrate that deviation from the norm was indeed possible I produced my entirely circular, black metal framed specs.
That now makes three opticians who've exclaimed "Wow! Where did you find those? I get so many people asking for frames like those! etc." and then carefully noted down the URL. Fuck fashion.
