Bruce's journal (original) (raw)
Well, it's Monday morning, I'm at work, so what better time to do an LJ update?
I took Friday afternoon off work to wander up to Ipswich for a night out on the town with J&M. Fortuitously, that evening, they were viewing again the house they're attempting to buy, so I got to have a preview of their new home. It's very nice - and having been exposed to London house prices for several years, I think it's a good price. Mind you, that doesn't change the fact it's an awfully large amount of cash.
This section will hereafter be referred to as 'the Standard Ipswich Template':
We went out on Friday night to 'Furry' - an indie club that J&M are pretty much part of the furniture at. The organiser/DJ is Ed and his taste in music is a nifty combination of the kind of indie-scene I was bouncing around to at uni spruced up with more recent bands such as The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Hives and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Typically, we were first to arrive and last to leave.
Saturday started slowly - when we finally decided to head into town, we made straight for Vagabonds. Afterwards we trawled the local record shops and popped into Electronics Boutique to pick up the latest set of PS2 cover demos - which, in combination with mine and J's latest PS2 addiction, swallowed Sunday whole.
Additions to the template:
- We actually ended up tending the door at 'Furry' for the first hour due to Ed generally having a bad day.
- As the crowd thinned out around 2:30am, Ed's selections got ever stranger. I think we closed out with 'Time', 'Home' and 'The Great Gig In The Sky' from 'Dark Side Of The Moon' - and Beck's 'MTV Makes Me Want To Smoke Crack'.
- The weather on Saturday was entirely random - we had to walk to the bus stop in driving snow, leaving me and J looking like snowmen. I think it must have lasted all of half of an hour.
- I picked up a few CDs: Badly Drawn Boy 'The Hour Of Bewilderbeast', The White Stripes 'White Blood Cells' and Cornelius 'Point'. The Cornelius album is, in particular, terribly good.
- Our latest PS2 addiction is, as you've probably noticed, Wipeout Fusion. Between us we managed to access and complete our first Gold Challenge.
And there you have it - no 'Furry' next month though, so I'm off to the Netherlands.
