Bruce's journal (original) (raw)

Well, that was a long gap between posts again. Anyone would think I didn't have anything to say...

(tumbleweed blows past, coyotes howl, crickets chirp)

The weekend doesn't really fit the Standard Ipswich Template but, hell, I'll invoke it anyway. Basically, we did Furry on Friday night (it rocked - odd musical selections included 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' and 'My Israelite' and I danced to both of them), Becky's birthday barbecue on Saturday and then the standard Saturday stuff today (substituting Costa for Vagabonds 'cause they don't open on Sundays).

I picked up Ed Case's 'Ed's Guest List' which is okay at first listen (with the single 'Good Times' (featuring Skin from Skunk Anansie) being the obvious highlight) and The Music's 'The People' EP 'cause searching for it on Kazaa turns up everything but ('the', 'music' and 'people' - oh, that'll narrow the search down). The title track is absolutely storming - and that's where I stop listening.

In other news, I now have just two evenings left to tidy the flat and hide stuff before I vanish off to the Cambridge Folk Festival and drop my keys off with my parents so they can borrow it. I'm slightly concerned about the weather though - every other year this weekend has been the festival's slot (ie, the last weekend in July) but due to one thing and another, it's been pushed back a week for this year only. The gorgeous weather of the last few days has been standard fare for the last few and I'm really hoping it doesn't piss it down this time around.

For those of you that read (and can still remember) my last two posts, I will post the other half of my 'influences' posts - but I'm waiting on the whole nostalgia vibe to return. I have both posts half-written already though, so a single evening's (or work day's) reminiscing should suffice.

My main time sink this week has been producing a Winamp skin for Alun's club 'Elizium' - I've finished the main window to my satisfaction, it's just a matter of skinning the graphic equaliser, the playlist and the microbrowser now. There's some times when pixel-by-pixel fiddling is the best therapy - and last week was it. I am proud to say that not only did I manage to lose an entire work day to it - but I forgot to have lunch as well.

And talking of skipping lunch - here starteth the diet! No, really. Honest. I was scared witless when I weighed myself midweek and was told I'd reached the dizzy heights of 14 stone. Mercifully, I've since discovered that a stone of that was attributable to all the crap I was carrying in my pockets - but I still ought to lose enough to diminish my man-breasts. I figure 12 stone is a reasonable target and I intend to achieve it by simply eating less rather than exercising more because who the hell wants extra exertion when the weather's like this? Lunch will be salads with the merest sprinkling of lardy dressing and dinner will be from the 'Dinners for one' section rather than the 'Dinners for two'...

Anyway, now that I've demonstrated that I do occasionally have things to say, I'm off for more liquid 'cause I'm dehydrating again. Mmm, melty weather. I love it and hate it.
