Conference Papers, 2016

The present paper is devoted to describe a holistic canvas of accelerated development of addictiv... more The present paper is devoted to describe a holistic canvas of accelerated development of addictive consumption in the contemporary society. The classification of addictive products - from real to virtual ones - as well as estimations of corresponding market sizes and trends is given. The said products are classified in accordance with the degree of its devastating impact on individuals (consumers) and a society as a whole. The notion of "para-addictive product" is defined and coined. The consumption of such products has not a devastating effect on consumers' health but provokes and boosts their proper addictive consumption. Some negative socio-economic and political consequences of addictive consumption are systematized. Examples of regulations applied on addictive product markets are given and estimated. Following conclusions are presented: 1) there is a lack of effective regulation on addictive consumption markets; 2) the said markets are poorly studied; 3) it is necessary to develop the comprehensive program that includes not only administrative/political and medical techniques but countermarketing ones. The latter is intended to devaluate and even reverse the consumer perceived use value of addictive products.

The analysis of these works has shown that there is a possibility and the need to use in pedagogical process the teaching materials of the same high scientific level (without any simplification) as that of a monograph. It is assumed that such an approach would generate the systemic thinking in students of economics and management.

It is revealed that while understanding the need for an innovative way for the development of national economy, Russia lacks a harmonious and conventional innovation theory. The paper presents a critique of theoretical positions of a number of Russian authors concerning classification and essence of innovation, the corresponding terminological paradigm alongside the main mechanisms of innovations diffusion. We provide a comparison and corresponding generalization of our approach to diffusion mechanisms with those of foreign scientists. We note that the insufficient preparedness of many researchers in contextual understanding of both foreign terms and some notions of political economy poses significant obstacles to the development of innovation theory in Russia. We finally offer some recommendations to improve the innovation theo...

Research paper thumbnail of The application of the ARCH model for the assessment of transport routes in Northern Europe and Southeast Asia

IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2019

The article proposes the method of comparison of future transport routes to connect North Europe ... more The article proposes the method of comparison of future transport routes to connect North Europe and Southeast Asia. Two transport routes can pass through the expanses of the Arctic Ocean, along the shores of Russia and Canada. The Southern Sea Route on the Suez Canal and the Trans-Siberian Railway are the alternative transport routes. The Northern Sea Route is the shortest waterway between Northern Europe and Southeast Asia and has many advantages of goods transportation in the future. Compared to the Northwest Route along the Canadian coast, the Northern Sea Route has a greater number of competitive advantages. The authors outline the stages of transport routes comparison method. At the first stage, the goal of the analysis is set and the mathematical model is chosen. The second stage determines the resulting and influential indicators. The third stage involves collecting the information on selected indicators with each indicator being a time series. At the fourth stage, time inva...

Research paper thumbnail of Interdisciplinary communicative competence: From conceptualising to operationalising

Communication complexities which often occur in interdisciplinary work gave rise to the studies on teaching interdisciplinary communication. A growing need to provide pedagogical solutions to facilitate teaching interdisciplinary communication stimulated the research into language as a social practice to better understand communication process for interdisciplinary purposes. Aim. This exploratory study investigates the concept of interdisciplinary communicative competence and proposes a framework of interdisciplinary communicative competence with the focus on three underlying components: knowledge, skills, and personal attributes of interdisciplinary team members. Methodology and research methods. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used. The data obtained from 24 in-depth semi-structured interviews with five groups of higher education stakeholders (employers, academic directors of the programmes, professors, students, and alumni) revealed the existing interdisciplinary practices in the university and cross-functional practices in the companies. The proposed framework was empirically tested using an online survey with 139 responses from professors, students, and employers. The data processing techniques included the use of Kendall's concordance coefficient, Cronbach's alpha, and the principal component analysis. Results. The study presents the authors' conceptualisation of interdisciplinary communicative competence and its framework as the result of the literature analysis and the empirical research. The findings provided evidence on the importance of language skills for effective interdisciplinary communication as perceived by 5 groups of respondents. The choice of language skills as a basic component of interdisciplinary communicative competence is justified. Scientific novelty. The study contributes to the conceptualisation of a framework of interdisciplinary communicative competence. The elements of the framework are identified and their relevance is empirically tested. Practical significance. The results of the empirical part of the study can be applied in the design of interdisciplinary learning process in higher education, for example, in the design of interdisciplinary courses, and teaching materials.

The said problems consist of increasing logistics risk and transaction costs. It is shown that the solution of these problems constitutes a significant reserve for increasing the competitive advantage. The comparative-analytical approach is used to build a double-prism model of international logistics management. Crossborder supply chain integration is formalized using vector representation in a pair of ndimensional spaces of logistic significant marketing variables. A prospective model of digital real-virtual cyberspace is presented as a hypothetical example of a fully digitalized logistics infrastructure. Didactic use of paper materials is explained.

This is done from the point of view of compliance of this development with the so-called megatrends of the world economy, highlighting theoretical, conceptual, and technological aspects. he characteristic of modern geoeconomic and geopolitical factors of development of the AZRF is given. A brief comparative analysis of applicability of economic models that are relevant the concept of sustainable development in the case of the Russian Arctic: bioeconomy, green economy, and circular economy. A few conditions for the implementation of the circular economy model in the Russian Arctic is considered. In connection with the representation of the AZRF as a heterogeneous socio-economic, real-virtual, socio-cyber-physical space, a special role of logistics infrastructure is shown as necessary condition for ensuring the sustainabl...

The results of theoretical research are presented herein should be of interest for assessing and implementing the concept of sustainable development in the Arctic. The expanded interpretation of logistics as science and technology for creating and managing logistics flows of different nature is given. The holistic approach – based on the marketing ecology concept – for designing a research framework of sustainable logistics infrastructure is substantiated. A draft map of the air layer in the hypothetical sustainable logistics infrastructure of the Arctic is presented and briefly described.

The present paper is devoted to define contemporary essence and logic of developing the Northern ... more The present paper is devoted to define contemporary essence and logic of developing the Northern Sea Route (NSR) for the near future of Russia and beyond. A global nature of such upcoming processes as melting the Polar Ice Cap, depletion of readily available oil/gas reserves (causing a rise in prices on such commodities) and emerging confrontation between interests of circumpolar countries and non-circumpolar countries (on the background of a fastgrowing economic and military power of latter and an ambiguity of legal status of using the Arctic space and its mineral resources) is defined. The features of Russian developing the NSR are historically and logically depicted and a decisive role of state political decisions and investments concerning the NSR is shown. The topological model of Russian Siberian-Arctic infrastructure grid where the NSR serves as its backbone is proposed. The said model and comparing data between domestic and transit turnover of cargo through the NSR have reinforced the hypothesis of the special importance of domestic functions of the NSR. A SWOT-matrix permitting to describe a current situation and future scenarios for the NSR is presented. The findings of the study allowed defining limitations and a vector of future research.
