Looking for a new fitness program? How about trying the Presidential Fitness Challenge. This challenge comes in three varieties: 1. The Active Lifestyle Program - For those of you who aren't active on a daily basis yet, this is a great way to begin. The rules are basically to get a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week, for a total of 6 weeks.2. The Presidential Champions Program - If you're already active and want a new challenge, this program is for you. Your goal is to see how many points you can earn by staying active. Points are based on the amount of energy each activity burns. So the more active you are, the more points you'll get. When you reach 20,000 points, you'll earn a Bronze award. Then you can continue on in the Presidential Champions program for a Silver or Gold award.3. The Advanced Performance Presidential Champions Program - This is basically the same system as the Presidential Champions Program, except that the award goals are higher. For instance, you need to get 40,000 points to earn a Bronze award. The Presidential Champions Fitness Program Website (where you can log your progress and also order your awards when you've reached your goal) Also, if you want, come join the LJ pres_challenge community to chat with others who are challenging themselves with this program. | |

Hardgainer | [17 Jun 2005|05:10pm] |
---|---|
I'm a clasic hardgainer male looking to bulk up. I was recently hospitalized with spinal mengitis and lost a ton of weight. I'm only 115 pounds and around 5 foot 8 inches tall. I know everyone says "EAT MORE" and i've been doing that, however my metabolism seems to speed up when I eat more and i'm not making that great of gains. I can eat 2,500 to 3,000 calories and 150 grams of protein a day without gaining weight. I'm going to try and eat 3,000 to 3,500 calories and 200+ grams of protein a day and see if that works, but i'm don't know if i can eat that much.Any advice for a hardgainer?(Side note: I'm not over training. I'm following a clasic Stuart McRobertish/ Further Brawn hardgainer routine and loving it. Deadlifts, squats, dips, arm curls, and so on)thanks | |

Things I'd say if I didn't think it was rude to give advice to strangers:* Why are you wearing gloves on the treadmill?* Is it for the same reason that you're wearing a belt to curl?* Uh... if you enter a bodybuilding contest, they're going to look |

There is a new freedom community in our midst, it is called unstoppablesPost at your freedom, read the info first. I'll remain the only moderator but just follow the previous communities rules basically except that all offensive posts must be placed behind a friends only lock, but you can make a public reference to the fact that you posted a friends only post and you can give the overall subject of the post as long as it doesn't refer to any certain person or group in the public posting. In the private posting you can say whatever.BTW I will be reporting PollyPegLeg for harrassment as she posted numerous posts in my private journal and referenced my fiance's private photo journal. | |

Gymbrats it is!Now who else here was extremely relieved when Roadwarrior220 finally called it quits in gymrats?I was reading down through some of his shit in fitzilla and I came across a penis pumping post in which he claimed to not only have 3.5% bodyfat, but to have had that for the past 5 years. Also apparently 6 days a week he runs on the treadmill for 2 HOURS a day plus another hour of not only weights but more cardio.WHAT AN ASS..if he went to my gym he would seriously be out back with a barbell mysteriously shoved in his ass in such a way that it comes out his mouth. Also who here thinks of the word "hawaiian" as a race classification? | |

FYI all, this experiment has been pretty entertaining so far! A couple people have tried to change my email address, and the password was changed (it is currently 14afdbg, but I will update my journal if it's tried again!) but because of LiveJournal's excellent anti-hacking tools my previous registered email can always recover any changes.I think I'll let this go for a bit still before I "pull the plug" on it. But so far, you people are hillarious!<3 | |

My Reaction to Static Contraction | [30 Nov 2004|11:25am] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | curious ] Last week, the concept of static contraction was brought to my attention as a superior way of building strength and muscle. I am skeptical. Static contraction is "taking a weight and holding it in the target muscle's strongest position as long as possible-until your static strength is exhausted in that position." Now, I can see this as being useful in building muscle, but check out the next bit: the exercises are to be done "with an average of two workouts per week and only two static-contraction reps per bodypart." This cuts weight training down to about fifteen minutes once or twice a week. Now, the people who told me about this want to use static contractions as their only strength-building exercise. It seems to me like they're looking for a quick fix. Using only this to build muscle seems like wishful thinking. The caveat I've seen in my brief online search is that static contractions shouldn't be done regularly. For instance, Static Contraction Training and Mike Mentzer, Heavy Duty Workout says, "This is a great technique to use to blast through plateaus, but don't use it too often." More information on this topic can be found here: Timed Static Contraction Static King (includes a how-to guide for this sort of workout, and a slashy bodybuilder photo) I don't understand how such infrequent training can reap positive results. Do you know anything more about this? Is it bogus or true, and are there documented studies to prove it? If it is effective, can it be safely used as the primary method of muscular development? I want to know. | |

Is it detrimental to do weights everyday, or is it ok?Would you recommend doing weights every other day, and cardio (running or swimming) on the rest of the days? | |
