The current study also intended to suggest future directions in developing and improving elementary sex education programs. To achieve these goals, we selected 29 Korean academic journals addressing elementary sex education programs. The articles were analyzed through general characteristics analysis, program content analysis, and quality indicator analysis. Starting with 5 studies on sex education programs published in 2000, studies on this topic have been continuously conducted with 1~4 articles published each year, mostly focusing on upper-grade elementary school students. In terms of a research design, the majority of the studies administered a pretest-posttest control group design method, and there was no single unified measurement tool. Most of the programs were implemented by program researchers, class teachers, or school nurses. Regarding the dependent variables, most of the studies measured the two following variables: sexual knowledge (22 papers) and sexual attitude (21 papers). The contents of sex education programs could be widely classified into physical development and sex, psychological development and sexual values, social development and sexual culture, and marriage and family life. The qualitative indicators analysis showed that most of the studies satisfied six or more qualitative indicators. Based on the current findings, the directions for further research were also discussed.

The results of the study are as follows. The overall effect size of the school dropouts support programs was 1.35, which was considered high. Among the four types of the support programs, the career support program showed the greatest effect, followed by the school life adaptation support program and the psychological support program. Among the four areas of the resulting variables, the variables related to career aspects showed the highest effect size, followed by cognitive aspects, social aspects, and emotional aspects. The programs with more than 10 sessions showed higher effectiveness compared to programs with less than 10 sessions. Programs conducted with adolescents living in group residential youth facilities showed better effects compared to programs with youths livin...

A national survey was performed with 990 patient-caregiver dyads (participation rate:76.2%). To examine the dyadic interaction, we developed linked patient and family member questionnaires, including the Family Avoidance of Communication about Cancer scale. The mean scores (standard deviations) of patient- and caregiver-perceived FACC were low at 10.9 (15.5) and 15.5 (17.5), respectively (P < 0.001), and concordance was low, a well (Spearman's rho =0.23). Patient-perceived FACC was associated with lower levels of disclosure and behaviors of holding back communication, as well as l...

The Cancer Communication Assessment Tool for Patient and Families (CCAT-PF) is a unique tool developed to measure congruence in patient-family caregiver communication employing a dyadic approach. We aimed to examine the cross-cultural applicability of the CCAT in the Korean healthcare setting. Linguistic validation of the CCAT-PF was performed through a standard forward-backward translation process. Psychometric validation was performed with 990 patient-caregiver dyads recruited from 10 cancer centers. Mean scores of CCAT-P and CCAT-F were similar at 44.8 for both scales. Mean CCAT-PF score was 23.7 (8.66). Concordance of each items between patients and caregivers was low (weighted kappa values <0.20 for all items and Spearman's rho <0.18 for scale scores). Scale scores did not differ significantly across a variety of cancer types and stages. The CCAT-P or CCAT-F score was weakly associated with ment...
