_5:44 am_[clay_bee_snake] | Melatonin http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsSupplements/Melatonincs.html Melatonin Overview Melatonin is secreted by the pineal gland in the brain and is important in the regulation of many hormones in the body. Among its key roles, melatonin controls the body's circadian rhythm, an internal 24-hour time-keeping system that plays an important role in when we fall asleep and when we wake up. Darkness stimulates the release of melatonin and light suppresses its activity. Normal melatonin cycles are disrupted when we are exposed to excessive light in the evening or too little light during the daytime. For example, jet lag, shift work, and poor vision can disrupt melatonin cycles. In addition, some experts claim that exposure to low-frequency electromagnetic fields (as is common in household appliances) may disrupt normal cycles and production of melatonin. Melatonin is also one of the hormones that controls the timing and release of female reproductive hormones. As a result, melatonin helps determine when menstruation begins, the frequency and duration of menstrual cycles, and when menstruation ends (menopause). Many researchers also believe that levels of melatonin in the body are related to the aging process. For example, young children have the highest levels of nighttime melatonin and these levels are thought to diminish progressively with age. This decline likely contributes to why many older adults suffer from disrupted sleep patterns and tend to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier in the morning than when they were younger. However, emerging research is bringing the idea of diminished melatonin levels in the elderly into some question. Therefore, those considering use of this supplement should first talk to their healthcare provider about having blood levels of melatonin checked. In addition to its hormone actions, melatonin also has strong antioxidant properties and preliminary evidence suggests that it may help strengthen the immune system. Because melatonin is a potent hormone, it's advisable to check with a healthcare provider before using it as an antioxidant supplement. ( Read moreCollapse ) |
_5:38 am_[clay_bee_snake] | Lecithin http://nature-s-health.com/theproduct.asp?pid=37&cid=2 Lecithin Indications: Lecithin is used in foods as a fat emulsifier. As a nutritional supplement, it is a natural source of many nutrients including phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylserine and other phosphatides. Lecithin's most important physiological function may be its role in the biochemical processes of cell membranes, mitochondria and plasma. Phospholipids are important compounds found in the structure of all cell membranes. Lecithin, an important source of phospholipids, is needed by every living cell in the human body. Cell membranes that regulate which nutrients may leave or enter a cell are largely composed of lecithin. Without lecithin, a cell membrane would harden. The cell's membrane offers protection from damage by oxidation. Interestingly, the protective sheaths surrounding the brain and nerve cells contain phospholipids as found in lecithin. Additionally, muscles and nerve cells also contain this essential fatty substance. Lecithin is a rich source of the B vitamins, especially choline. |
_5:29 am_[clay_bee_snake] | And AGAIN - Melatonin Valentina: After my post: "Melatonin is not a miracle. Book Review" It was here: http://community.livejournal.com/happy_health/2037.html And here is more about Melatonin: http://nature-s-health.com/theproduct.asp?pid=86&cid=2 Melatonin Indications: As we metabolize oxygen, the life-sustaining gas, we generate highly reactive molecules called free radicals, which can corrode our cellular membranes and damage our DNA. The process, known as oxidation, weakens our minds and muscles as we age, and contributes to at least 60 degenerative diseases, including cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's disease. The body produces several enzymes to inhibit oxidation, and nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin E and beta carotene can provide extra protection. But most of these so-called antioxidants work only in certain parts of certain cells. Melatonin readily permeates any cell in any part of the body including the brain. Scientific research recently showed that the hormone can protect tissues form an amazing array of assaults. Basically, this product may help to ease insomnia, combat jet lag, prevent pregnancy (in large doses), and protect cells from free-radical damage. It is the hot sleeping pill, natural and cheap. Now scientists say this hormone could reset the body's biological clock, turning back the ravages of time. |
_5:17 am_[valentinarussia] | DHEA Hmm... Interesting... I guess, I should do some more of my own research on it... (Valentina) http://nature-s-health.com/theproduct.asp?pid=88&cid=2 DHEA Indications: 1) Perhaps the breakthrough of the century, the hormone DHEA is produced by the adrenal glands, and generates a very wide variety of health and longevity benefits. A large and very rapidly expanding body of scientific evidence, indicates that the level of DHEA in a person's blood can foretell the future regarding degenerative diseases, memory disorders, and perhaps aging itself. 2) Studies have shown a direct relationship between blood levels of DHEA and the inhibition of many diseases. If you have high levels of DHEA, you are far less likely to: develop arteriosclerosis (and suffer from cardiovascular disease), develop malignant tumors (and generate cancer), suffer a decline in mental function. 3) World-class aging athletes and body-builders are known to far exceed the usual dosage of 50 to 100 mg per day. Unlike steroids and HGH (human growth hormone), the benefits are considerable, with virtually no known side effects. As we age, the stress of high intensity exercise reduces testosterone and increases cortisol levels -- tilting us into a catabolic state. During our late teens and early twenties, the opposite occurs. DHEA appears to reverse this aging problem, both, with men and women, enabling us to recover quickly and derive greater benefit from the exercise. |

_8:05 pm_[clay_bee_snake] | Maybe my weird sleep patterns and my tiredness etc.... "Maybe my weird sleep patterns are partly due to eating proteins (such as cheese) in the evening. I'll try not doing that for a week and we'll see. First, I just want to see if my tiredness etc. could be attributed to hypoglycemia (hope I spelled it correctly) - making sure to eat every 2 - 3 hours,... So far it went well... " ( I have just posted very few things here: Nutritional Supplements with herbs & Homeopathy - PRESCRIPTION & DOSAGE ... And some more... I know that this could help you sleep better and not to feel so tired - for sure... ValentinaPS I think, a, that you live somewhere close to San Francisco - we can get in touch about all of this or communicate through e-mail... Or if you are somewhere around Reno, NV or Dallas, TX... I don't travel much further these days... |

_2:58 pm_[clay_bee_snake] | Re-organize your daily use of the Nutritional Supplements ALTHUOGH I WILL NOT FOLLOW THEIR PRESCRIPTION OF TAKING IT...THAT'S FOR SURE...I'LL USE IT ALL IN MUCH SAMLLER DOSAGE...THAT'S WHY IT'S MUCH EASIER FOR ME TO re-organize daily use of the Nutritional Supplements - it least for people that I already work with...(So, for these people I'd rather do it myself and welcome them to bring all they have to me and give me some time to put it all in some better order - by my opinion, of course...Yet, it will allow me to add some of the Supplements that they could really feel healthier with...But they didn't by them yet...Plus, baying everything to use just a small portion of it - is the real waste of money...)Valentina |
_2:50 pm_[clay_bee_snake] | Probiotics have demonstrated immune-stimulating effects. "Probiotics have demonstrated immune-stimulating effects. Probiotics are known as the “friendly” bacteria or “flora” found in your digestive system (primarily the small and large intestine). Lactobacillus acidophilus is perhaps the probiotic that most people are familiar with, yet there are many other types of probiotics now on the market." (David J. Foreman, RPh., ND)( Read moreCollapse ) |
_2:36 pm_[clay_bee_snake] | Nutritional Supplements with herbs & more... I guess, for people in America you could say:“Just open your drawer were you keep all SUPPLEMENTS (herbs, oils, vitamins and so on) - all that you have already collected… The pills, capsules, tablets and more…And tell me (write in the e-mail or comments, perhaps) what you have…Then let’s think about all of it – what can we do next…Is there ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU NEED in addition to all of it or can we just get it organized for your daily use in a better way – so you wouldn’t have your money wasted or not by working for you in the real helping appearance…"That’s what I’d say…And probably most of the people that are looking for these kinds of things as FOOD and NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS - MOST OF THESE PEOPLE ARE ALREADY HAVING AT LEAST HALF OF THOSE SUPPLEMENTS THAT COULD REALLY IMPROVE THEIR HEALTH…VALENTINA |

_7:38 pm_[andreya] | Learning to FLY - or, eat in a healthy way ;) I've been looking into healthy food books again. I had a feeling we ate quite healthy food, but hmm...We use wholewheat products - bread, pasta... usually eat salad and vegetables every day... And try to be as organic as possible (not always possible, no apples this year /sigh/)I'll try to separate proteins and carbs. For the sake of Granny and Sis, too.Eat carbs in the morning and the evening, proteins somewhere inbetween. When I do the menus they're basically vegetarian (carb) anyway!! (To great misery of Dad & co.) But they go along with it cause it's WAAY easier than coming up with own menus! LOLI'll also gradually reduce/avoid stuff that could trigger candida for a while. Such as sugar and sweets... (Which I wanted to reduce to minimum anyway!) Unfortunately, sweet fruit comes under this category too...Maybe my weird sleep patterns are partly due to eating proteins (such as cheese) in the evening. I'll try not doing that for a week and we'll see.Later, I'll check for possible sensitivities to milk products, and then gluten that's in wheat. So, that sounds like a plan! Still needs some work, but it's a start! |
