Blitzo (original) (raw)
This is the article about the character. For the series, see Helluva Boss.
"Okay, what I mean is, I said sorry a lot today and, honestly, didn't really mean any of it. Because the only one I wanted to say it to... Was you, Stolas. I just... This whole thing we had going... I'm- I mean you're a fucking prince. How could you ever actually care for an imp... Me? How could anybody?"
―Blitzo, to Stolas, while apologizing
Blitzo Buckzo[1] (pronounced Blitz) is the founder and manager of I.M.P and is the main protagonist of Helluva Boss.
He is the adoptive father of Loona and a former co-worker and best friend of Fizzarolli during their days as kids in the former's father's circus.
Appearance
Current
Blitzo is quite tall for his species, and sports a harlequin-like aesthetic. He has red skin with white burn marks of various sizes that cover parts of his forearms, chest, and his tail, as well as most of the right side of his face. His irises are red and he has a heart-shaped skull symbol on the center of his forehead.
Blitzo has fairly broad forearms and hands, and a long narrow head, out of which extends large, curved, black and white striped horns. He has black spines on his head and upper back, as well as on his tail. His tail ends with a triangular point that has a black spot at the tip.
He has pointed feet with boot-like heels which are shown to have black on the heels and toe areas.
Blitzo wears a tattered slate gray collared coat with red buttons down the breast, black knee-high boots matching the shape of his feet, and elbow-length black fingerless gloves featuring large, rounded yellow decorations on the upper side of them. In "The Full Moon", the yellow decoration on his left glove is infused with his own Asmodean Crystal. Blitzo also wears a red skull charm around his neck.
In "Exes and Oohs", Blitzo is shown to wear boxers with horses on them.
As shown in "The Full Moon", Blitzo has red gums.
Young
in his youth it is shown that Blitzo lacked the white blotches on his body that he has in adulthood. He also lacked the black spines on his head and upper back, as well as the two stripes near the end of his tail and tail spines that he has as an adult.
As a teenager, he wore braces.
Personality
Blitzo is a bombastic, big-talking, and sardonic imp. He is high energy and career-focused, having recently started his own company, something that's noted to be rare for an imp to achieve.
He is very invested in the company's success and willing to make many personal sacrifices to achieve it. However, despite his enthusiasm to break out of the lowly social position his species is assigned in Hell. He is also, in many ways, wildly unprofessional and scattershot in his methods.
Despite his status as his company's sole director, he can frequently behave in ways that are immature, self-absorbed, and even disrespectful towards his employees, affecting their level of respect for him.
He is also willing to be manipulative in some questionable ways, sleeping with the married Stolas, initially in order to "borrow" his grimoire, the key element allowing him and his employees to fulfil contracts to assassinate people on Earth.
Underneath Blitzo's powerful drive to succeed at all costs, however, is an emotionally troubled imp, one who is dealing with the repercussions of a checkered past, that has left many people he once knew, and is implied to have cared for, hurt and actively bitter towards him. Deep down, covered by his bluster, Blitzo is haunted by these ghosts and makes a habit of running from, rather than facing, his current problems in reaction.
He struggles with genuine emotional connection, and appears to crave the idealized healthy relationship dynamics of his married employees, Moxxie and Millie, who he regularly spies on while they're in private, as well as the affection of his surly adoptive daughter, Loona.
Blitzo is slightly more at home and focused when on the ground on assassination missions, as he is murder-savvy and can be gleefully sadistic with his targets, having minimal restraint in the more brutal killings. When push comes to shove in high danger and combative situations, Blitzo is also fiercely protective of his friends and family.
Abilities
Blitzo's resistance to Earth fire
- Animalistic noises - Blitzo has been shown to be able to purr like a cat, being displayed during the two times he is in Moxxie and Millie's bedroom, once in "The Harvest Moon Festival" and once in the non-canon Helluva Boss pilot. Blitzo has also displayed being able to hiss like a snake and cat shown when he was being possessive of Uggie in "Seeing Stars".
- Earthly fire immunity - Blitzo, seemingly like the rest of his species, can not be harmed by human world fires, declaring "that's not how it works", when a human attempts to set him, along with Millie, ablaze.
- Prehensile tail - He is shown to be able to support his entire body by hanging himself upside down by his tail as a kid in "The Circus".
Skillset
Weapon proficiency - Blitzo is a sharpshooter and extremely proficient with a variety of weapons. He favors firearms and is often shown brandishing his personal golden percussion pistol.
Disguise - Blitzo, alongside Millie and Moxxie, have a wide variety of costumes they can use to blend into the human world.
Flexibility - Due to working at his family circus since he was a child, Blitzo shown amazing flexibility and it’s able to help him in battle and missions.

Concept & Creation
Blitzo's proto design from the Hazbin Hotel pilot
According to Vivziepop, Blitzo and Moxxie were originally intended to be recurring characters for Hazbin Hotel, as an assassin duo specifically designed as comedy relief.
But, since the planned dramatic nature of the series wouldn't support too many overtly comedic characters, Vivziepop decided to develop a new, separate concept based around the two, which led to the development of the Helluva Boss series.[8][9]
A proto-design for Blitzo can be seen in the background of the "Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow" sequence in the Hazbin Hotel pilot. His final design was still being finessed when his cameo spot in the episode was created.[10]
Trivia
- By his admission, the "o" in Blitzo's name is silent. "Blitz" is also the German word for "lightning".
- In "Loo Loo Land", he remarks how the "o" has been silent since his resignation from his job at the amusement park of the same name.
- Those whom Blitzo used to know in the past, such as Verosika Mayday, Fizzarolli, Robo Fizz, and Wally Wackford still pronounce the "o" at the end of his name. In the case of the former two, who are now on bad terms with Blitzo, they pronounce the "o" intentionally, knowing that he now actively dislikes it.
- The spelling of his name in the series' end credits as well as the official Shark Robot store often alternate from being spelled as "Blitz", "Blitzo", "Blitzø", and "Blitz⦻".
Blitzo and his sister, Barbie
In Blitzo's office, a poster featuring himself and his sister, Barbie Wire, labeled "The Amazing Imp Twins" can be seen on the wall, indicating that they were once part of a circus double-act.- Brandon Rogers described Blitzo's involvement with showbiz as a passion that he fell out of.[11]
- In "Murder Family", there is a poster in his office titled "The Blitz Show", implying he had his own routine along with being part of "The Amazing Imp Twins". Robo Fizz makes a possible reference to this when he pokes fun at Blitzo for previously having had, as he describes it, a lazy and unfunny show that no one laughed at, at Loo Loo Land.
- In "Murder Family", it is revealed that Blitzo goes to therapy and that his therapist apparently "finds him gross".
- In "Truth Seekers", it is revealed that Blitzo is a college dropout. The same episode also revealed that he took so many tranquilizer darts that he became semi-immune to them.
- It is shown in "Ozzie's" that every physical photo of himself, hanging on the walls of his apartment, has his own face crossed out with black, seemingly deliberately. Interesting enough, he is shown to have kept pictures of his past on his phone without any erasure of his own face.
- It is also revealed that his phone's lockscreen is a picture of his own drawing of himself riding Bombproof.
Blitzo spies on Moxxie and Millie during the night
- While Blitzo regularly pushes himself (often physically) into the personal lives of others, ironically, he doesn't appreciate it at all when others so much as pry into his own personal life.
- In the non-canon Helluva Boss pilot, Blitzo is implied to be an atheist, or at least comically cynical in his ideas of a God, as he jokes, "Huh, I guess there is a God!", when informed that the human child Moxxie accidentally shot was their right target, after all.
- In "Loo Loo Land", it appears that he keeps Martha's eye in a jar as a memento of that job.
- Blitzo shares two similar traits with Loopty Goopty; those being that he and Loopty are both voiced by Brandon Rogers, and that they both dislike it whenever anyone mispronounces their names.
- Additionally, aside from Loopty Goopty, Rogers also voices Katie Killjoy in the main series of Hazbin Hotel.
Blitzo's horse investment
Blitzo loves horses, almost to the point of obsession, and even owns toy horses. This obsession may have been the final straw for his romantic relationship with Verosika Mayday, who finally broke up with him after he maxxed out her credit card to purchase horse riding lessons. In "C.H.E.R.U.B", he also spends all the money Loopty Goopty paid him to kill Lyle Lipton on a toy horse named "Mare-ajuana", which is covered in gems.- His love for horses dates back as early as his childhood as shown in "The Circus".
- A reminder for horse riding lessons can be seen on Blitzo's office calendar in "Seeing Stars".
- Prior to its archiving, one of his Voxtagram posts[12] indicated that Blitzo is pansexual. His behavior and dating history on the show were very much reflective of this. However, as the service and its affiliated accounts were not officially canon, it was not confirmed if he identifies with the specific label. On June 26, 2024, his pansexual orientation was officially confirmed in a celebratory tweet for Pride Month.[2]
- It is revealed in "The Circus" that Stolas had developed a crush on him when the two were still kids, specifically during the former's first witness of his performance on his birthday.
- It is foreshadowed in a flashback of "The Circus" how Blitzo's career path had turned to murdering people rather than starting his own circus, when his younger self stated how he found blood "cool".
- It is revealed in "Seeing Stars" that he and Stolas' monthly rendezvous takes place on every 14th of the (Hell) month.
- Additionally, it is revealed in "Seeing Stars" that Millie sends Blitzo pictures of the sex toys she plans on using on Moxxie to ask for what the former thinks.
- As seen in "Seeing Stars", his office safe passcode is also revealed to be 1234.
- On Blitzo's Voxtagram account, Blitzo once owned a horse named Spindle (a play on Vivziepop's animation company title, "SpindleHorse") that could apparently talk and teleport. However, it initially did not make an official appearance outside of Blitzo's Voxtagram prior to this post. Due to the unofficial nature of the Voxtagram accounts, the events and the horse are not canon.
Blitzo's "Boss Goals" board
- In the non-canon Helluva Boss pilot, Blitzo was shown to have a mood board labelled "Boss Goals" with pictures of himself, Katie Killjoy, a duck with a monocle and hat, Carmilla Carmine, and Rosie.
- Brandon's favorite moment to record as Blitzo in season one of Helluva Boss was the scene in the episode "D.H.O.R.K.S." where Blitzo pulls out his "Big D Bazooka" during the hallway fight, talking about how genuinely high his energy was when recording all of the effects noises required for the fight.[13]
Child dressed as Blitzo in Holidaze
Blitzo option at face-paint booth in Eddsworld
In Vivziepop's 2019 short Holidaze, one of the children is wearing a costume based on Blitzo. Additionally, there is a tree carved with initials "M+M →B←" in a heart that alludes to Blitzo's invasive tendencies toward Moxxie and Millie's relationship.[14]
- Blitzo makes a cameo in the 2021 Eddsworld short "The Beaster Bunny" as the "Imp" option at the face-paint booth; coincidentally, the "Imp" face was what the painter (portrayed by Medrano herself) was giving to the child.
- When Sam Haft was asked if Blitzo has good singing chops, he responded that he thinks because Blitzo was raised in a circus that he's a natural performer.[15]
- In "Oops", it was revealed that Blitzo would use Fizzarolli to distract his father in order for Blitzo to steal his booze.
- Brandon talked about feeling a greater sense of connection to the character of Blitzo than all of his other many and varied fictional personas, and that the reaction to the character amongst fans feels personal to him.[16]
- He talked about enjoying the fact that Blitzo represents comedy and drama as interconnected, and that a "class clown can still get his heart broken".[17]
- He described Blitzo as "the garbage disposal" of all his characters, in that he gets to be foul and angry and that it's just him on both his worst and best day, at the same time.[18]
- According to Vivziepop, Blitzo's perspective on humans is that they're all kind of dumb and they all go to Heaven or Hell eventually so killing them isn't seen as a bad thing.[19]
- According to Vivziepop, Blitzo's obsession with horses came from when she and Sam Miller were watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Vivziepop mentioned that Blitzo would like the movie and relate to it. From their conversation they decided to make Blitzo a "horse girl", and because Sam is also a horse girl.[20]
- Ironically, while his character Blitzo loves horses, Brandon himself hates horses.[20]
Development
- In "Murder Family", a poster can be seen in Blitzo's office that, while closer to his final design, retains his original proto-design's eyes.
- A recurring joke on Blitzo's Voxtagram posts is that he is bad at spelling.[21]
- Interestingly, Blitzo's spelling did not seem to be bad in the initial few posts when his account was started. It only become a feature of his character from this post onwards, until it eventually worsened to its current state. It's unclear if this is also an element of his character reflected in the show.
- Blitzo has been shown to have bad spelling in the show as well, as displayed in his text conversations with Millie in "Seeing Stars" and with Stolas in "Western Energy".
- According to Vivienne Medrano, early into writing the first season of Helluva Boss, she had decided that she wanted Blitzo and Stolas to have met as kids, and that this idea informed the rest of the series and especially season two.[22]
- According to Vivziepop, while writing the first season she asked Brandon Rogers if he thought Stolas and Blitzo was a worthwhile relationship to explore or if they should keep it purely comedic and keep Stolas and Blitzo as the joke of a weird hookup relationship; Brandon thought the former made sense and they changed the trajectory of the series to fit that.[23]
