rap_mogul Today I was talking to some of my peers who are in the grad program with me, and also work at the station, and we were complaining about how reliant pledge is on scripts. We hit upon the idea of making those "driveway moments" interstitials with our local personalities. So instead of Nina Totenberg, it'd be the host of one of our AAA shows, or a listener, sharing their favorite thing about our station. They could be thrown in to break up live pitching, or used throughout a period when you're doing lead-up to pledge, but have online pledging active. This is what I think we'll need to do to get some of these made:>Identify if we're even allowed to use the "driveway moments" branding. If not, they'll be something like "WOUB moments.">Listen to the NPR promos and see how they're constructed. Steal good ideas, shun bad ones.>Email our staff for volunteers to participate in a short, taped interview in which they'll share anecdotes or stories about the programming or the station - tell them to get their thinking caps on.>Get announcements into the PSA rotation recruiting listeners who might want to do the same to email us. Recruit volunteers from Friends of WOUB, civic leaders, board members, etc.>Book time for interviews and conduct them.>Mix them down with a few different music themes to represent the different programming strands that they represent - our music programming, moments in WOUB history or anecdotes from working here, our local news programming, and national programming.Any other suggestions about process or content? 5:53 pm - Call for entries |
rap_mogul The Third Coast International Audio Festival is calling for entries for its short docs competition. Entrants this year will find "99 Ways to Tell a Story," using the following elements within the composition:> An opening sentence ("To begin with, they never got along.")> 3 specific sounds (pre-recorded voice, a rhythmic noise, an exclamation)> A time limit (2 min 30 sec)These pieces turn out really cool when they're done, and not only do the winners get to present, but they often wind up on "This American Life." Entries can be fiction, nonfiction, linear, nonlinear - the point is to innovate within the given framework.
