Learn about your Recipe Box, including how to save and organize recipes, and how to use the Grocery List feature.

Subscribers with a Cooking or All Access subscription can use Recipe Box to save and organize all of their favorite New York Times Cooking recipes.

Subscribers with a Cooking or All Access subscription can use Recipe Box to save and organize all of their favorite New York Times Cooking recipes. To access Recipe Box features, you must be logged in to your account on nytimes.com/cooking or in the Cooking app.

If Cooking is not included in your subscription you will have limited access to Recipe Box features. To find out which New York Times Subscription you have and what benefits are included, visit View Your Subscription Type and Benefits.

**Note:**The Recipe Box experience differs slightly between the web and the Cooking app.

Select an option below to learn more:

Your Recipe Box holds all of your saved New York Times Cooking recipes. It can be viewed from a web browser or the Cooking app. Once inside your Recipe Box, you can view all your Saved Recipes, recipes you’ve recently saved, your Grocery List, and any recipe folders you have created.

Navigating to the Recipe Box differs slightly between a web browser and the iOS and Android Cooking apps.

Web Browser

In the top right corner of the web page, select Your Recipe Box.

Cooking App

Select Recipe Box from the navigation bar at the bottom of the app.

Recipes can be saved to your Recipe Box when you are viewing a single recipe or when browsing recipes across the site and app.

When viewing a recipe page, select Save from the actions panel. Once a recipe has been saved, the ribbon icon on the Save button will be filled in.

When browsing recipes, you can save a recipe by selecting the small ribbon icon in the bottom right corner of the recipe card. Once a recipe has been saved, the ribbon icon will turn dark gray.

Note: Recipes that are hosted outside of New York Times Cooking cannot be saved to your Recipe Box.

Unsaving Recipes

To unsave a recipe from your Recipe Box:

  1. From Your Recipe Box, select the three dotsin the bottom right hand corner of the recipe you would like to remove
  2. Select Unsave from Recipe Box

You can also remove a saved recipe when you are on a recipe page, or when you are browsing through recipes. Select the ribbon icon. This will remove the recipe from your Recipe Box.

Your Recipe Box is like your own personal cookbook, with features to organize all of your recipes so you can easily locate them when you’re ready to cook!

Saved Recipes

Recipes you’ve saved can be viewed in the All Saved Recipes section of your Recipe Box.

Cooked Recipes

Recipes you’ve marked as Cooked can be located in your Recipe Box on a web browser in the navigation bar on the left side of the screen.

Your Folders

Customizable folders can be created to organize your recipes in a way that works best for you! These folders are organized alphabetically and cannot be rearranged.

Folders may differ slightly between a web browser, the iOS app, and the Android app.

Note: If you have not created any of your own folders, two premade folders will automatically show in your Recipe Box: Favorites and Want to Cook. You can rename or delete these folders if you’d like.

Create a new folder

Creating new folders differs slightly between a web browser and the iOS and Android Cooking apps.

Web Browser:

  1. From your Recipe Box, select + New Folder from the navigation bar on the left hand side
  2. Enter the desired title for the folder and select Create Folder

Cooking app:

  1. From your Recipe Box, select + New or + New Folder beside or below Your Folders
  2. Enter the desired title for the folder and select Create

Add recipes to your folders

To add saved recipes into these folders, select the three dots on the recipe card and select Add to folder. Select the title of the folder you would like the recipe to go into, or create a new folder.

Note: Recipes can also be added to a folder when viewing a recipe page. Once the recipe has been saved to your Recipe Box, select the folder icon on the Save button and choose the folder you would like the recipe to be saved to.

View your folders

Web browser:

You can view your folders in the left-hand navigation bar on your screen.

Cooking app:

You can view your folders in grid view or list view by selecting the icons to the right of Your Folders.

Note: The Android Cooking app also includes Category Folders , such as Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch. Recipes are automatically filtered into these folders and they cannot be edited.

Rename a folder

To rename your folders:

  1. Select the three dots next to the folder’s title
  2. Select Rename folder
  3. Type the new name of the folder and select Save

Delete a folder

To delete a folder:

  1. Select the three dots next to the folder’s title
  2. Select Delete folder

Note: Deleting a folder from your recipe box will not remove the recipes saved within from your Recipe Box. They will simply no longer be located in a folder, but rather in the All saved recipes section.

Searching

Finding your favorite saved recipes is easy with a search function inside your Recipe Box and Your Folders. The search function is equipped with filters to help you narrow down your search.

To search all saved recipes or within Your Folders:

  1. Enter the name of a recipe, ingredient, or keyword into the search box at the top of the screen
  2. Select Search
  3. Optional (web and iOS only): Filter your search by selecting the + Filter icon under the search bar

Filtering

In the iOS Cooking app and on the web, recipes can be filtered without searching! By selecting All Saved Recipes or one of Your Folders, filter options will appear at the top of the screen. Select a filter to view recipes that fall into that category.

The Grocery List is only available to Cooking and All Access subscribers. With Grocery List, you can create a list for all of the ingredients you’ll need to cook your favorite New York Times Cooking recipes.

Note: This feature does not allow you to add your own items to the Grocery List. Only ingredients listed in Cooking recipes can be added.

Locating your Grocery List

Your Grocery List is accessible via your Recipe Box. Location differs slightly between a web browser and the iOS and Android Cooking apps.

Web Browser:

Select Grocery List in the navigation bar on the left side of your screen after navigating to your Recipe Box.

Cooking App:

Select Grocery List at the top of your screen, above Recently Saved recipes, after navigating to your Recipe Box.

Adding and Removing Ingredients

To add ingredients to your Grocery List, select Add to Your Grocery List below the ingredients list on any recipe.

To remove ingredients from your Grocery List, navigate to your Grocery List and select a recipe to open its list of ingredients. Depending on the device you are using, select either the X or the red delete circle to delete an item from the list.

Share your Grocery List

Sharing your Grocery List differs slightly between a web browser and the iOS and Android Cooking apps.

Web Browser:

The Grocery List can be shared via email from your Recipe Box . To share your Grocery List in your web browser, you will need to have a default email set up on your device.

Once you have your Grocery List open, select Email in the bottom left corner.

Note: A default email must be set up on your internet browser in order to email your Grocery List. Setting this up will differ slightly based on your browser and operating system. Here are the instructions for Mac devices and PC devices. For more information, please visit the Support page for your internet browser.

Cooking Apps:

To share the Grocery List, select the share icon in the top right corner of your Grocery List, then choose the sharing method you’d like to use (text message, export to a Note, etc).
