Please help: Solution to suffering from liver damage Hello,

I need all you all's input. An older-aged friend is really suffering right now from liver damage caused by an excess of alcohol consumption in the past. He has not had a drink in two years, but the damage has been done and right now he's very sick. He is currently at the hospital, but I have also promised to do some research and compile a list of natural treatment options for his wife. (Especially since a transplant will probably not be a viable option.)

So far, this is what I have come up with. I would appreciate your input on what I already have, as well as further suggestions. Also, if anyone happens to speak Spanish (I am living in Mexico but have only been speaking the language for 6 mos. now), I would really appreciate corrections of anything I may have mis-translated. I am especially uncertain about "dock" (likely is the word for boat dock since I found it with an online translator...) and "Oregon grape" (because I know that "uva" is just the word for the fruit, grape).

#1 Blackberry (zarzamora): good for "sluggish liver." Make a tea from the leaves.

#2 Chicory root (raiz de achicoria): liver-cleansing. Brew it like coffee.

#3 Dandelion (diente de leon): stimulates the liver to rid the body of poisons. Eat the leaves or make a tea from the ground root.

#4 Dock (darsena?): stimulates liver bile and clears toxins. Steep root in hot water, strain and reheat tea. Don't boil the root.

#5 Fennel (hinojo): Repairs liver damage caused by alcohol (perhaps this is their best option?). Root extract or tea made from leaves.

#6 Oregon grape (Uva de Oregon?): Root has blood-cleansing properties, used to alleviate liver-induced symptoms. 1 oz. of dried root to 1 quart of water.

Thank you for your help.

Breastbone Pain My boyfriend has been experiencing pain at the tip of his breastbone, and radiating outward to the left and right, every day or every two days, or so. It is often accompanied by nausea and dizziness, and sometimes by a little bit of burping up of gas. It seems to happen more when he is drinking something, or standing for a long time. He says there are no other notable symptoms.

Does anyone know what might be the cause of this, and any natural treatments which might be effective?

Thanks for your help : )

Red dots and bruising, help please. Hey there,

I have been noticing a lot of groups of red dots (not a rash, maybe a sign of poor circulation??) and bruises in different places on my body lately. I'm wondering what the cause of these might be. I have a history of poor circulation on my father's side of the family and tend to get cold fairly easily, so I thought it could be poor circulation, but I'm not sure. Any herbs that might help? Any nutrients that I might not be getting in my vegetarian diet that could be the cause of this? Any other suggestions? Help, please. I would love to avoid going to the dumb Western doctor if at all possible, thanks very much.

Natural Cancer Treatments? A friend's wife was diagnosed with cancer nearly a year ago. He is having a hard time dealing with it, so I haven't asked many questions, and I'm not sure what type of cancer it is..

So with that said, any information or experiences with natural cancer treatments would be much appreciated and will be passed on to them. Happy Holidays and thank you in advance.

i was reading a book on little things you can do at home to be more 'green'? and it gave a little folk remedy for fleas! my cat Isabelle always battles with them bad. i gave her advantage over a week ago and she's still scratching like crazy. the vet thinks it might've gone into an infection and a steroid shot would stop her from scratching but who's got the money for that??? anyway the book said to boil a cup of rosemary in two quarts of boiling water. bathe the cat and allow it to dry thoroughly and then spray on the rosemary water. however it failed to mention how long to let the rosemary boil...still it's something to consider trying though. i'm going to look into the uses of rosemary first though and make sure it's not poisonous if a cat ingests it. isabelle isn't known for a strong stomach...i don't need her licking it off and then getting sick. DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW IF ROSEMARY WOULD MAKE A CAT SICK IF ACCIDENTALLY INGESTED?

also the book gave an idea for a super cheap air freshener. boil some orange rinds and other things like that and it will diffuse a nice smell into the air. plus then you can dab a little on a light bulb and when the light bulb heats up voila instant air freshener. this is something i'm definitely going to look into.

hello out there :) i am new here and i thought i'd just introduce myself and tell you all why i joined so here goes:

My name is Lene and i'm 24 years old. I've never had a garden before. Then last August i moved into this nice little house with a little garden. and i have a dream that i want both pretty, colourful flowers in it as well as herbs and vegetables. the woman who lived here before me was old and she was unable to take care of the garden the last years she lived here so now i'm kind of stuck with this jungle. LOL. but i want to make it a good and useful garden that i can take care of and enjoy.

the reason i joined this community is that i want to learn more about which herbs i could put in my garden and what they can be used for. i am mainly up for herbs that are good for your skin, digestion, joints and muscles. but i hope to end up with herbs that are good for so many more things. :D

So, my partner dug up a large yucca plant from our yard, and it occured to me to save the roots. I've also ended up with stems. Right now they are in a basin in the sun. What are your suggestions for preparing them for culinary/medicinal/cosmetic uses? (It appears to be Yucca filamentosa.)

Nettles for respiratory support My son's respiratory system is weak, he shows signs of environmental allergies, and his breathing at rest is often laboured.

I've been told that nettles are excellent for repiratory support, but I'm not sure whether freeze dried nettles in a capsule, or nettle in a glycerine tincture would be more effective. Also, since nettles are a food, I'm wondering what quantity he'd have to consume to gain the therapeutic benefits.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Earthy Clothes online? I'm looking for a place where I can buy earthy clothes online (must be credit card secure). Looking for stuff in earthy greens and browns or something like a skirt in bright, rich tones that reference flowers but aren't flowers. I want high-quality stuff that's tough enough and casual enough that I feel like I can wear it hiking or sitting on the ground. Frayed, round, interesting edges instead of straight edges would be nice. Think L.L. Bean's (for those of you who live in New England) but not as preppy.

Natural fibers is a must, natural dyes would be nice, but nothing that's going to rub off on skin or will come off in the wash. Washing has to be easy: machine wash, preferably machine dry. I'm not delicate with my clothing.

I think this post is appropriate for this forum, but if not feel free to delete it.

Any suggestion would be most appreciated... Thanks much.

Chicory Root during Pregnancy

Does anyone know how safe it is for pregnant women to consume chicory root? I started drinking Plum Smart juice (for digestive issues) which is not as nasty as prune juice. The problem is that it contains Chicory Root in it, which after doing a little reading on it on the net, it doesn't sound like pregnant women should be consuming it, or I found it's in the "unsure category". It has a natural laxative effect but I guess it promotes menstruation as well which obviously isn't good during pregnancy. Should I not worry about drinking this since I'm not consuming Chicory Root in large doses or completely avoid it? Thanks!

Zinc Oxide Hi!
I was wondering if someone could tell me when during a salve/ointment preparation should I add the zinc oxide?
It is in the powdered form. Should the oils and wax be at a lower temp?
Also does anyone know where I can find fillable ointment/toothpaste tubes in the US?
Thanks,
Liz
