Deathly Hallows pt 2 reaction post!!

Suffering from Post Potter Depression? Come hang out here.

What were your favorite parts of the movie?
What touched you the most?
What did they leave out from the book that you wish was still there?
What changes from the book did you like?
What made you cheer the loudest?
Who's faces were you so happy to see again?

Also, share macros, gifs, memes, anything!

Obvs, there will be massive spoilers inside so beware! If you're waiting to see the movie next week, bookmark this entry and add to it later!

Going in to this, you had to have some theories. So let's start with "what I put money on" versus "what was actually in the book."

Everything was up for grabs.

Would the Dursleys be attacked? How would Harry get out?

What were the Hallows and why were they important enough to be in the title?

Who was going to die?

What (and where) were the Horcruxes?

Who was the mysterious R.A.B.?

Who was Snape loyal to?

What sort of curse would Harry need to use to kill off Voldemort?

( Secrets and lies, that's how we lived, and Albus - he was a natural.Collapse )

If you were in the fandom before Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was published, and trying to guess things from the book title and chapter titles, what were your theories on who this Prince was and what his relevance would be to Harry's story? While you were reading, did you figure it out quickly? Today we talk Snape, Horcruxes, Lavender Brown, and mortality.

( Over the years I've played my part well, so well I've deceived one of the greatest wizards of all time. Collapse )

I'm running out of time!!! I promised myself I'd get discussions for all 7 books going before the premiere! So today, we're not doing big questions. Just chat.

( LET'S DISCUSS HARRY POTTER AND THE CAPSLOCK OF GRIEF AND RAGE!Collapse )

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire where we see that pretty boys do grow from trees (or at least jump out of them)...

...see Wizard camping, watch Hagrid get his flirt on, learn the properties of Gillyweed, discover what a Portkey is, and see Voldemort get brought back to full physical strength.

( My eyes aren't glistening with the ghosts of my past!Collapse )

Ahhh...Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban... This book holds a special place in my heart. It was the first HP I read, and I immediately fell in love with Remus Lupin and Sirius Black (but not Remus/Sirius so...anyway). I love and hate the movie adaptation with equal passion. In many ways, this book is pivotal in Harry's coming of age. He still hasn't seen death, but he gains full awareness of the depth of the betrayal which resulted in the murders of his parents. Harry also sees how deep Snape's hatred runs when he does his best to have Sirius executed (or as good as) despite hearing of his innocence.

( You're young in years but the heart that beats beneath your bosom is as shriveled as an old maid's, your soul as dry as the pages of the books to which you so desperately cleave.Collapse )

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets introduces us to a lot of new things which will become more important as the series develops. We visit The Burrow for the first time and see what a refuge it becomes for Harry. While there, we learn how a magical household functions and Harry experiences 'real mothering' for the first time since Lily was killed. We meet

Luscious

Lucius Malfoy for the first time, and, because of Draco, we learn about blood purity and Mudbloods. We meet our first 'fake' wizard (or nearly fake). We learn that Filch is a Squib...not to mention encountering Parseltongue, Polyjuice Potion and our first Horcrux.

( Tell me, what exactly is the function of a rubber duck?Collapse )

I need something fun, so it's time for...

Dixie's magic 8-ball, solving your problems one question at a time.

RULES:
1. Yes or no questions only, please!
2. Don't get mad at the 8-ball. It only tells it like it sees it - and it's better than Miss Cleo.
3. You do indeed have to post the question. Not just "hey, what I'm thinking about, will it happen?"

Post in the comments to ask a question!

Let's talk about the book that started the whole Potter phenomenon: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. We meet The Boy Who Lived, have to figure out what in the world Muggles could be, realize we are Muggles, and eventually meet the rest of the crew once Harry officially begins his journey.

( You're a wizard, Harry!Collapse )

I'm not sure how you feel about it, but the release of the final Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie feels like some sort of conclusion to that fandom. I'm sure it's not, and that discussion can go on for a long time yet, but I feel the need to generate one last fandom hurrah via LiveJournal. So I contacted izzzyy and asked her if I could start up a Harry Potter book discussion here.

This is a full spoiler zone, so if you don't know how it all ends, please don't click. Let's all play nice and be respectful of each other's ships.

*I borrowed/adapted some of these questions from different websites and study guides while I was still teaching. Just want to put that out there -- the really good ones are probably not all mine.*

( Swish and Flick!Collapse )
