I've seen in Catherine Zeta-jone's upcoming movie projects is the title Rachel's Holiday. Now am not sure if this the book of Marian Keyes but what do we know? Isn't it exciting? Who do you think is her character?

Maria Keyes is making a book about Anna Walsh. I wonder when will she making a book about Helen. I imagine Helen's book to be like The Taming of the shrew. :)

Hey! My name is Anna, and I'm new here. It's good to find some other literate high school students. I just finished Franny and Zooey, as well as The Power and the Glory. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good books to read. Thanks a lot.

Let me introduce myself | [Nov. 22nd, 2004|03:59 pm]we are bibliophiles |

Hi, I'm Josh. I'm a broke writer living in a boring little burg (well, its name doesn't have 'burg' in it but it is a burg nonetheless) in southwest Virginia. My three literary goddesses are (in ascending order of importance) Camille Paglia, Joan Didion, and Susan Sontag. I'm currently reading a book on UFOs by Jung (although I left the book in my handbag at a community center where my Quaker meeting meets, so I'm not sure whether I'll get it back or not). I also enjoy reading Congressional Budget Office and Government Accountability Office reports. That's about it for now.

I bought Dante's INFERNO, and GOD BLESS YOU DR. KEVORKIAN by Kurt Vonnegut (the guy who wrote, SLAUGHTER HOUSE FIVE), i skimmed through the vonnegut one in the bookstore it seems hilariously awesome. And everyone raves about dante's inferno and its known to be a great book.and right now i'm finishing up EAST OF EDEN by John Steinbeck. I've been starting it and restarting it since early spring, but once i got about fifty pages into the book i could barely put the thing down, its a long book but its awesome.oh yeah and i'm also suggesting a movie that i'm sure all of you AP Lit girls will enjoy this movie, Its called "killing me softl y" or is it "killing her softly", I think its me....oh well its a movie all about murder, sex mystery and secrets. Now they reason that you all will like this movie is because they guy in the movie is shakespeare from "shakespeare in love" and you get to see him naked....then for the male audience its Heather Graham, (the chick from austin powers 2)good movie.

[mood** |sick] [music** | Thanks to Lisa, Dashboard Confessional]This community was started by a few kids in AP Literature who liked to read and discuss books. Keeping in mind that we'd be spread apart soon thanks to college, we decided to make use of the internet. No matter if we were in Orlando, Tallahassee, Gainesville, even Missouri, we could read and talk about it through this little haven for the literacy lovers. So what happened? We talked a bit about books we had to read for Lit, asked advice for what we should read now that the summer break granted us freedom from reading assignments. The months of June and July heralded liberty to read as we please. So what happened? I'm in summer session right now. I've been reading history books daily since the end of June. I finally just picked up The Lovely Bones since I've finished the last of my assigned reading for my history class.I know alimagoo86 has to read Emma for a fall class. So what's next?Does any member have any idea what we can do to stimulate this little book club of sorts? We can start discussions on books we have already read and loved or loathed. Unfortunately, since we are mostly college kids who will soon be rather poor, buying books solely for a little Live Journal community might become a strain on already light wallets. That's one thing I keep thinking about. So, please tell me what you all think. Thanks and welcome to the new members. Feel free to make a post and tell us a bit about yourselves and how you found this community. I for one am surprised it was found at all, but you are definitely welcomed and wanted. |

Okay, Lindsay inspired me to update. Unlike her plethora of must-reads, I only have one that I read and it's not necessarily a 'must-read'. I had to read it for my upcoming school year.Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By In America - a female journalist takes the plunge and decides to do what the first journalists did, get her hands dirty and get the real story. Barbara Ehrenreich temporarily left her upper middle-class lifestyle to experience first-hand the real life of poverty in America. She takes jobs varying from waitressing to retail why attempting to maintain a decent apartment with enough money left over for food and maybe a treat or two. It's an incredibly liberal book, so I had to put it down sometimes and either shake my head or laugh, but looking pat that, it's amazing how our lower class survives. I survive because they survive. It really makes you appreciate not only your place in life, but what people like Wal-Mart workers or maids or waitresses do for you, too.If that interests you, go for it ... some parts are, like I said, liberal, and even others are kinda boring, but hey ... some people like it that way.

books, books, and EVEN MORE books.. | [Jun. 27th, 2004|09:46 pm]we are bibliophiles |

Alright, so I just returned from a two-week vacation in Hawaii and southern Cali, and I had way too much spare time and read about 5 books. As the school year ended, I read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. I believe I already posted on this, but if I didn't- it was awesome. Then I read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Oh my God. I couldn't put it down, except when I was crying so hard I couldn't breathe. It is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. You must read this.Next comes The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. This was also amazing. I'd like to thank the people in my Creative Writing class for enlightening me about this book. I read it in one sitting. My mom told me that his other book, Tuesdays With Morrie, was also a must read and so that is currently next on my list. As I had many hours on a plane to go, I was in desperate need of literacy. I went into one of the stores at the airport and purchased Dude, Where's My Country? by Michael Moore. Now, I had heard of Michael Moore but didn't really know all that much about him. This book really opens your eyes. It's not just some crazy liberalist bashing conservatives, despite what many may think. Obviously, it's all about politics, so if that isn't your cup of tea, I don't know if I'd suggest this book. There are many people who claim to hate Bush and other powerful political figure heads and leaders, and oftentimes these people make such claims without being educated on the subject. If you want to become educated, READ THIS BOOK. At times, Moore is over the top but simultaneously and perpetually makes VERY good and valid points. It is all impeccably supported with valid sources. Just keep an open mind because there are things in here about issues and people that I guarantee you do not know.I was in Urban Outfitters in Hollywood and was looking for something to get for Nick. I spotted a book called "English As A Second Fucking Language." Good Lord, it is hilarious. "How to swear effectively, explained in detail with numerous examples taken from everyday life." Stephen King says "Great fucking book!" It's by Sterling Johnson 'and a distinguished panel of experts.' READ IT!Because I've basically fallen in love with Dan Brown's writing, I spotted a book of his that I decided would be perfect for the 12+ hours on the plane rides home. Digital Fortress. Yet again, this master of words and suspense stupefies me. I'm on page 266, and I'm trying to type this as fast as possible to get back to that damn book. It's like, embarrassingly intriguing. I think I've pretty much accounted for all of them. I don't think I've read this many books in this short time ever. So get on it kids; you've got reading to do.
