Pusha T Welcomes Fans To ‘Cokechella’ A Week After Jim Jones Slander (original) (raw)

Pusha T has given this year’s Coachella audience something to remember him by thanks to his blistering set on Day One of the California festival.

On Friday afternoon (April 14), the Clipse rapper took to the Main Stage in an all-white get-up as the crowd screamed at the top of their lungs. Delivering the opening bars from “Let The Smokers Shine The Coupes,” he stepped out in front of a huge “Welcome to Cokechella” sign hung at the back of the stage.

Swagger wasn’t in short supply and the audience went wild during King Push’s set, which followed Doechii’s and came ahead of Becky G, Burna Boy, Gorillaz, and headliner Bad Bunny.

Pusha T’s Coachella performance comes just one week after Dipset capo Jim Jones claimed the Virgina rapper wasn’t one of the Top 50 best rappers alive.

Jones made the comments earlier this month on an episode of the Rap Caviar podcast, which saw the hosts discuss Billboard and _VIBE_‘s 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time list, which placed King Push at No.29.

“What has he done that puts him in the greatest rappers of all time besides talk about coke that he probably didn’t get himself?” Jones questioned the other panel members.

While he did give Pusha T his flowers as a lyricist, he questioned his impact on the culture, overall.

“He’s nice as shit. He could rap his ass off, but what has he done?” asked Jones. “Nobody has dressed like him. Nobody wants to be like Pusha T. I don’t remember nothing. And let’s not be evil, but we don’t talk about rap where the n-gga that’s popping the bitches wanna fuck and the n-ggas wanna be like. I don’t know too many n-ggas in this game that was leaning towards being like Pusha T.”

On Friday (April 14), Joe Budden weighed in on the debate on his eponymous podcast and emphatically disagreed with Jones’s assessment of the Hell Hath No Fury rapper.

“I do feel like Pusha belongs in the Top 50,” Budden said. “Of course I respect what Jim has to say about the issue, but I think he’s putting a Harlem criteria on all of Hip Hop with this, Who wanted to dress like him? Do the n-ggas wanna be like him? Do the girls wanna fuck him? That sounds very Harlem of him.

“And the answer to that is no, because Pusha T is not selling 100,000 copies week one today. But that don’t take away from his artistry, what he’s done, who he’s done it with, where he’s done it, his songs, his singles — he’s got it.

“I think Jim Jones is incorrect saying that Big Sean should be ranked higher than Pusha T on their list. I am emphatically saying you could not be more wrong … Sean just got here in 2012 — somewhere around there. And he did everything he needed to do, sold a bunch of records, but now, it’s a little on the quieter side. I’m saying this respectfully. We in 2023 — that’s 10 years.”
