Here's something fun to do for those of us waiting for physical Ivan goodness to be published:
Tor.com is starting a new series of rereads. Mari Ness has done several over there, including the Oz books, E. Nesbit, & lots of others. This should be good; come share the fun!
Here's the introductory post:

It looks like there'll be discussion about historical aspects, both accurate and not so much. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of us in the discussions. Tor.com is generally fun, but we can make good things even better.

Hello, everyone!
I just joined this community because I am in need of a little history advice and I heard this was a good place to get some :D
I am looking to take the U.S. History I CLEP test, which covers all the time between Colonization and Reconstruction. I did some studying and took a practice test, and while I did well enough to pass, I didn't do as well as I would have liked. It seems that about a quarter of the test is devoted to the art, music, and literature of the time period. The textbook that I studied from didn't really address that aspect of history, and I was hoping y'all might have some suggestions....:)
Interestingly, the test had only one or two questions about the Civil War, one or two about the writing of the Constitution, and none at all about the Revolutionary War...All of which I think are very important events shaping American History.
So, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, and thanks to Lady Jane,

It's been a while since I've been here but I would like to open a discussion.
We're currently learning about Geoffrey Chaucer and medieval literature and it would be really nice if you wrote anything you knew about this topic in the comments. Thanks. :D
Due to my recent obsession with the heist-ilious programs White Collar and Leverage, I have engaged myself in what all nerds trapped in the unrelenting claws of fandom do, research. Con research to be exact. One that peeked my interest? The Melon Drop.

Yup, we're doing it again. Mostly because a writing contest is a summer project, and I now see my folly in putting the deadline right around midterms. Bad, bad mod.
You now have until September 5th, 2011 to enter. Then we will open voting polls. These will close October 5th, 2011. We mean it this time!
Since this will be such a long-term project, I will post notices to the forum when someone enters an essay or fic. So, do not worry about your entry going unnoticed. And do remember my dear friends... These entries do not have to be long. We'd actually prefer shorter. A couple hundred words is perfect.

Anyone wanting a profound understanding of the physical, emotional, and psychological effects of living in Edwardian Britain should watch this British reality show, Manor House. This is an excellent historical experiment. I strongly recommend it.
Enjoy!

When you hear the name Henry VIII, you probably think of wives, beheadings, a lack of a male heirs, and the notoriously, haunting rhyme: divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived; but right along with Henry VIII's high capacity for violence and cruelty was an amazing talent and passion for music. Not only did Henry perform music, he composed it as well. The most famous and, in my opinion, the most beautiful, is the smooth, melodramatic romance, Greensleeves, which is commonly attributed to him.
Please follow, this link and listen to Greensleeves, as performed by the lovely Celtic origin band, Anuna.
