The accident took place in a period with an annual increase of births of approximately 3%. However, the year after the accident a decrease of 0.7% was observed with particularly low numbers during February--April 1987. Concomitantly, the miscarriage fraction of all pregnancies increased by 16.3% and particularly during November 1986--January 1987. The same pattern was found when observations from Haukeland Hospital were analyzed separately. When the time of conception was taken into consideration we found that conceptions during the period May--July 1986 ended more often as miscarriages. We have no explanation of the observations. The external radiation exposure seems too small to have produced these effects. The internal radiation from food may have played a role. People may also have changed their food intake, using less vegetables, due to fear of these being polluted by radioactive fallout.

Their work constitutes an important part of the collective memory of the conflicts between demonstrators and authorities. Based on quantitative analysis of the total photographic coverage in the three largest Norwegian daily newspapers in 1968, this article discusses whether and, if so, how news photography in dailies with different political leaning framed the protest phenomenon in a particular way.

Semiotic analysis indicates that there are several aspects connected with the indexical sign that are staged in all advertisements. The analysis was triggered by the play with the indexical sign. However, since the magazine also contains press photographs, the genre of photography is compared and discussed in relation to advertisement photography. The analysis focuses on the reflexivity of the creators of the index in both genres. One important argument is that the indexical relation in the advertisement photograph is loosened, while that of the press photograph is fortified. Thus, the conclusion of the analysis is that the practice of the advertisement photographer is free and expanding due to sophisticated digital techniques, while that of the photojournalist is bound due to the same techniques and values of the journalistic institution.

In the present study, the \veekend/holiday effect has been assessed on the basis of 1480 SIDS cases in 19 Nonvegian counties during a 19-year period (1967-85). The phenomenon has been confirmed for 17 of the 19 counties. Special attention has been attached to differences in the geographical and seasonal distribution of the phenomenon. Deaths of other causes in infancy did not display such a dependency on the day of the week.

Apparently, no effects were observed in terms of an increased occurrence of legal abortions, while spontaneous abortions increased from 7.2% of all pregnancies during the last 12 months before the accident to 8.3% after the accident [corrected]. At the same time, the total number of pregnancies somewhat decreased. Based on monthly measurements in each municipality of external and internal (food-based) doses, dose-response associations were assessed for a number of perinatal health problems. No associations were observed.

The perspective of framing in photography pulls together elements from sociology and media dramaturgy. Then it poses the question of how press photographers understand and construct the social reality. The article argues for an understanding of a frame established by the press photographer of the 70’s when photographing politicians, should be informed by media dramaturgy. The established frame developed, changed and played a modest role in the Norwegian press of the early 90’s. Then, the frame and scene were changed to television and magazines.
