The premier forum for syndicated loan professionals
About us
The Asia Pacific Loan Market Association was founded in 1998 to promote growth, liquidity and best practice in the syndicated loan markets in Asia Pacific. The membership has grown to over 400 institutions and now includes banks, non-bank financial institutions, law firms, insurers, government and rating agencies as well as data and other service providers. Through its various committees the APLMA promotes standards on critical issues affecting the syndicated loan market, including green and sustainable finance, loan trading and risk-free reference rates. The APLMA serves its membership by providing access to a suite of recommended form template documents and guidance notes, which are updated regularly to reflect legal and regulatory changes. These include recommendations to promote common standards across APAC in respect of sustainable finance and benchmark reforms. It also provides a professional networking platform to promote knowledge sharing and education across the region. The APLMA is a professional, not-for-profit trade association funded by its members. It is headquartered in Hong Kong with a full legal branch in both Australia and Singapore, as well as offshore committees in China, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Taiwan.

#APLMA, in collaboration with #BakerMcKenzie, hosted a seminar on "Lending and Collateral Issues Facing Banks in South and Southeast Asia" on 7 November. The event began with opening remarks from Seraphim Ma, Managing Partner of Baker McKenzie’s Taipei office, and Matthew Liaw, APLMA Taiwan Committee Chair and EVP & Head of the Structured Finance Division at CTBC Bank. The seminar offered valuable insights into offshore lending, securing interests over shares and other assets, and key #legal and market developments across the region. The panel discussion further examined the challenges of selecting governing law and jurisdiction, focusing on issues critical to #banks. “We are delighted to work hand in hand with Baker McKenzie to organize this seminar for APLMA’s members in #Taiwan, with the aim of enriching their understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the South and Southeast Asian markets.” commented James Hogan, CEO of the APLMA. “According to insights from APLMA’s Taiwan Loan Market Conference held in June this year, Taiwan’s savings rate remains at a high level even after the COVID pandemic, providing considerable liquidity for the banking sector. Together with the strong financing demand in the South and Southeast Asian region, this presents a great opportunity for Taiwanese banks to expand their offshore lending footprint. As an industry association committed to fostering the sustainable development of the loan market in the Asia Pacific Region, APLMA looks forward to continuing our collaborations with regulators and various strategic partners, including Baker McKenzie, to facilitate knowledge exchange within the industry and the ongoing growth of loan markets as a crucial funding mechanism in the region.” For more details, read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/gHvjTbTgLearn more about the Taiwan market from the APLMA's 2024 Taiwan Loan Market Conference: https://lnkd.in/g88wn9N6Follow us on LinkedIn to stay tuned for future events! Another perfect day in Beijing! It was fantastic to witness the enthusiasm amongst attendees at our #China Loan Market Conference. Wide-ranging discussions addressed current trends in M&A, "going out" financing for PRC companies, and promising market opportunities in China. The event also explored emerging trends in both onshore and offshore loan markets. Additionally, speakers highlighted #export & #credit #insurance, recent cases related to #restructuring and #insolvency, and the implications of the "Measures for the Management of the Syndicated Loan Business" recently introduced by the National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA). The day finished off with a fun and lively cocktail reception, emphasising the value of #networking. The success of this event was made possible through the support of our sponsors, speakers and key market players from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
