[Current Location |a dark vault in Leeds] [Current Mood | contemplative] [Current Music | Vernian Process: Unextraordinary gentlemen mix]One hopes to create an interest in a moving picture project I am working on.It is my first feature length film project; a Steam punk film involving time travel, war and romance. (on a low budget (seriously, less than the amount to get a train into London from Leeds)The basic plot is that of three pirates, who travel back a thousand years to stop an intergalactic war before it starts. They time travel to Moscow, the year being 1812, with their intention to be to burn it before Napoleon commits his atrocities (which start the war). They bump into Leo Tolstoy (another time traveller) and have a jolly fight with a battalion of Inquisitors in the streets of Moscow. And a bit of arson... So, what the blog for progress on the project; and how on earth we create 19th century Moscow out of 21st century Leeds (we have a cunning plan, which I am not telling you!)Thank you. |

South London Sewing Machine Museum | [Jan. 17th, 2008|12:50 pm]Her Majesty's Clockwork Army |
---|---|
Steampunk often involves a strong DIY element, and for many of us that means making their own clothes, and that means sewing machines. Now I'll happily admit to being a junky, and possessing far more sewing machines, both ancient and modern, than is strictly necessary and so it is with a certain degree of glee that I found that there's a small museum dedicated to antique sewing machines in the depths of South London. It only opens between 2-5pm on the first Saturday of the month, so I am proposing a visit there on February 2nd. If anyone doubts that this is relevant to the group, just look at the inlaid brass beauties on the images of the museum given here:http://www.sewantique.com/acatalog/wimsew_catalog_Views_of_the_Museum_341.htmlWho wouldn't waant to be pedalling their way to sartorial excellence on one of those lovelies. Look; cast iron, transfer prints, crank shafts! Would anyone like to join me for a wander round and possibly a spot of tea afterwards? I shall be collecting the nearest tube stations for my project over at tubewhore so will be dressing up for the occasion. Company always appreciated.(x-posted a bit) | |

Blacker than Black (Mk2) | [Jan. 16th, 2008|06:59 pm]Her Majesty's Clockwork Army |

[Current Music |Within Temptation - The Promise]'I'm only wearing blacker-than-black till they invent something darker'http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7190107.stmISTR something similar mentioned on UPG a few years back. The BBC article lists plenty of possible uses, but somehow completely misses ultra-black velvet capes, New Rocks, steam-driven crossbows, and all the other really important potential applications. Odd, that... :-) | |

Kew Bridge Steam Museum Evening Visit | [Dec. 4th, 2007|05:20 pm]Her Majesty's Clockwork Army |
---|---|
Quite the best collection of steam engines in the world - including the biggest ones in existence - are housed at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum. The engines are in steam every weekend, but given that we aren't part of the general hoi polloi I've made enquires today on the cost of holding our own Steam Tea Evening in early March 2008. (I'm suggesting March because it's my birthday and I fancy celebrating in some style). To have a tea, cake and sandwiches, a full guided tour - including areas normally closed to the visiting public - and 4 steam engines in operation including the largest, the 90" Cornish Beam Engine, biggest still in existence in the world - works out to about £20 a head. This is the worst case senario, and will get cheaper if we a) have more than 20 people interested and b) don't have the big engine and the fuel costs, but just the 3 rotary engines.I have mentioned that we are a dressing-up group, and the Museum is more than happy for us to pose about in our finery with the machinery - as the hire costs for a photo shoot here can be heavy this is a very reasonable way of getting access to the steamy pretties, on top of a friendly social event with cakey goodness thrown in. Rest assured I am still working on a Cornish SteamPunk Weekend as well, but this might have to wait until later in the year)20 people will be the minimum needed to make this happen, and I'll need deposits to secure the booking by the end of January, with the event being Friday 7th March 2008. Are people interested?x-posted a bit... | |

Meant to post this last week but completely forgot. If any of you ladies are in the vicinity of Meadowhell, Sheffield/Yorkshire take a look in the shoe shop Tamaris, they have some of the most gorgeous boots and shoes I have seen in a long time. From what I can remember the boots seemed to start at around £25 up to £80 the shoes I was looking at were around the £40-£50 but that was because it was a specific style.I presume the shop has branches elsewhere but even when googling I couldn't find a website to link to for more details, just other shops that stocked certain styles. You lot might have more luck than me in finding the website, I admit to being completely useless with computers.Anyway good luck and don't go buying up all the stock before I get paid again ;-) | |

Is it Steampunk ? | [Nov. 13th, 2007|12:54 pm]Her Majesty's Clockwork Army |

[**Current Mood** |happy]Yesterday I received this, From this lady http://www.carpetbagreplicas.com/carry-bag-3.htmlI have been wanting one for decades so here I am all grown up (some might disagree ) and I have been able to afford one, well ok my credit card has..I didn't want the classic red or oriental colours, I wanted it to look older and more travelled and to go with outfits that are mostly blacks, greys and browns.Maybe it isn't exactly steampunk but there is enough space in one to fit your own steam train or air ship if Mary Poppins is to be believed ;-)I suppose I really should get an outfit together and take photos of it. | |
