Hounds Of Hell (original) (raw)

April 18th, 2012

I know that livejournal itself is an artifact by now, and this community is long-since inactive, but I felt the need to at least post once more to sort of wrap things up.

This community has been around for almost 10 years. THAT blows me away.

This community was started by me for the love of my dogs, Corona, Ruby, and Toxic. Ruby passed away on March 1, 2005. And as of this weekend, I also lost Corona early on April 15, 2012. I know my girls are FINALLY reunited, and it brings me peace to think of them together at last.

Today is Toxi's 11th birthday, and his joints are getting so bad I'm not sure he'll make it passed 12.

My, my... how my dogchildren have grown and gone. Time soars. Things change. Lives are very short.

I appreciate everyone's support and involvement in this Hounds of Hell community over the last 9 years, I am lucky to have made friends with so many of you, and even stayed in touch with a few, and to have read and shared stories and pictures with such a wonderful community.

Best wishes to all.

SAVE THIS PUPPY!! HE IS GOING TO BE EUTHANIZED ON SUNDAY (7/17) JUST BECAUSE HE'S A PITBULL. He has never done anything violent, this is breed discrimination. I know many of us love all animals, please, call Polk County Animal Control: (863) 499-2600 and tell them to do the right thing!

A friend found a young pit bull wandering the streets of her town in Florida a few weeks ago. She attempted to find the owner with no response. Posted an ad seeking a new home for him. Before a response came, she was forced to bring him to Polk County Animal Control. Initially informed they would do everything they could to find him a home, they took him, and then told her they would not rehome him because he is a pit.

They won't even release him back to the woman who found him. One day after Polk county took him, a man answered her ad stating he would love to add this little guy to his family, but Animal Control won't release the dog! Since then we have lost contact with that family, so he may still need a home after being rescued

I know many of us love all animals, please, call Polk County Animal Control: (863) 499-2600 and tell them to do the right thing!! We have hope a local rescue(the animal control office is in Winter Haven, FL) will help get this pup released so my friend can take him to his new home!! He's scheduled to be euthanized THIS Sunday!
He doesn't deserve this fate due to breed stigma!

Animal control is being unresponsive, KEEP CALLING.

Lillian Booth's left canine turned purple yesterday. I took her into the vet to confirm its death.

He took a peek into her mouth, and gave her a cookie. He took a dental tool out of the drawer and said, "I don't try this on most dogs when they are awake. But your dog..." She let him poke around in her mouth. "Yup, it's dead." And gave her another cookie.
She's such a good baby.
We're leaving it in as it isn't hurting her and it isn't infected.

Happy 8th Birthday Lillian!

I think one of the many reasons I was hired at my new job is because my Boss and I both have pit bulls. When we finally get Ginger and Lillian Booth in a play group together, I'll be sure post photos. Until then:

Ginger isn't allowed on the furniture or the bed. My Boss told me the other day, "I'm telling you this because you're the only person who'd understand. We've been sleeping on the floor with Ginger."

LOL.

I was out walking Lillian Booth and saw a brindle pit bull running around, it sort of looked like the renaissance bulldog down the block: Abbey. I called, "Abbey! Abbey!" but it didn't respond, so I took Lillian back. I got a leash and found the little dog again. She's an adorable tiny pit bull with floppy ears and a long tail, but she cowered from me. I thought she might belong to these other neighbors, I looked over and their gate was open. I shooed her back into her yard and closed the gate.

An old couple answered the door and thanked me for bringing her back, their son must have left the gate open. Her name is Lexi and I'm glad she got home!

Lillian the Hobo Dog

A couple of guys in New York are trying to find a home for this beautiful girl who was found freezing to death out in a blizzard.

"OK folks, I know this is a long shot, but here goes…

This morning, as a buddy of mine drove to work via the Williamsburg Bridge, he noticed something: a small gray dog chained to the pedestrian walkway, shivering, completely drenched and half-frozen. As you probably heard, New York had a very big snow storm last night; we’re almost certain her owners left her out in it overnight to die.

That same dog is now sleeping comfortably at my feet, well-fed, fully-bathed, and having been given a clean bill of health by the local vet.

My friend brought the dog to his office and spent the entire day making calls, not realizing how hard it is to find a home for a pit bull. Something like 1 in 800 rescued pit bulls find homes, and as far as I can tell, no “no-kill” shelter will accept them. I offered to take the dog for the night, since I live closer to my buddy’s office than he does.

Since she showed up to my apartment, she’s been a doll. Hasn’t barked once – in fact, I think the only sound I’ve heard was when she began whimpering when I left the room.

She’s young – the vet estimated her to be 1-2 years old. She knows how to sit, seems to understand stay, and is one of those great dogs that stays very close to your side, leash or no leash. Also, she has a gorgeous gray coat, and as you can see, neither her ears nor tail are clipped. Finally, she’s been exceptionally friendly and playful, both with my roommates and all 30+ co-workers at my friend’s office...."

I would love to take her myself, but I'm in California. Please boost the signal if you can. The original post with more photos and info is here: http://www.scoutingny.com/?p=3358
