A few instances related with this practice are also found in Mandi region of Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. There are many memorial stones and a few descriptions of sati in some books on the history of Mandi. There are mythical and religious causes behind this practice not only in Mandi but also all over India. A widow woman chooses her death willingly or by force and burns herself on the funeral pyres of her dead husband. My aim here is to research on this tradition in Mandi region and how this tradition affected the society. Also an attempt has been made to trace the connection between folk traditions and historical developments related to sati.

The 30-meter resolution SRTM image of Himachal Pradesh was downloaded from open topology website. This was further processed in QGIS and ArcGIS 10.3 software. The different hydrological processes and data management tools were used like, fill, Flow direction; flow accumulation, map algebra, stream orders, stream feature and stream dissolve in order to get the final map of Mandi drainage pattern.

The article discusses religious narratives about the village deity Nar Singh Veer of Mandi region of Indian state of Himachal Pradesh that can be found in the form of myths, legends, and folklore. These narratives are a proof of the power of Nar Singh Veer which provides relief to people from their hardships and also warns them in a supernatural form. Village priests (pujaris) and Gurs are the religious authorities who control both the deity and oral tradition on Him. There is a widespread belief in this region that the deity roams around his territory at night to protect it from evils. People talk about their experiences and encounters with the deity and these are also narrated both in legend and oral tradition. Religious folklore genres thus merge the social world of humans and mythical realm of deity. The aim of this article is to explore narratives related to this deity in the Mandiyali(Local Dialect) folklore in their socio-religious context. Our aim here is to research on the tradition related to Nar Singh Veer in Mandi region and how this tradition affected the society.

Here, every village of Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, and Sirmaur districts has its own local God or Goddess which governs the daily life of these culturally rich villages. The paper describes how people worship their deities for the whole year, what rituals and traditions they follow during worshiping their deities, and what are the beliefs of people. (For example; Animal sacrifice, Symbolic Human Scarifies, taking deity to far of places in order to purify by providing a holy dip in some pious water etc.). The study is based on intensive field survey which includes Visuals, Audio collections, and personal interviews of the people and priests/Gur/Mali(Oracle or Mouthpiece of Deity) of the associated Deity. Documentaries of rare rituals and traditions are also part of this study, which is one of the objectives of this study to preserve the cultural heritage of these rare traditions by doing such kinds of Archival studies.
