ineffective. They completed their mission – to stop the hostilities and
stabilize the situation. However, they failed to create a viable state.
Centrifugal tendencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina are compounded
by the conflicting interests of major international players: the
European Union and the United States, Russia, and Turkey. The
strategy chosen by international forces in Bosnia is inefficient and
fraught with outbreaks of violence in the region. This article analyzes
the discrepancy of the policy pursued in Bosnia and Herzegovina
compared with reality. The author of the article proposes a potential
plan for the harmonious development of the state.

and international relations. Today, this outwardly calm region is fraught with danger again. Strategically,
the Kosovo problem has been solved in a rather short-sighted manner. Complexity of Bosnia and
Herzegovina statehood, as well as other national problems, provoke new potential conflicts. The modern
international relations crisis has resulted into deep disagreements on the Ukrainian case, which may also
widespread into the Balkan region. As before, interests of all strong world players cross here. Cooperation
or confrontation among them will clearly define the future of the Balkans.

economic system which was destroyed by the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Commonwealth
of Independent States(Cis) built instead of the Soviet Union fulfilled itstasks of a peaceful breakup
and dialogue between the Republics. Nevertheless, the Cis has been ineffective in solving the
problems of a deeper cooperation in relation to integration. By the end of last century in search of
large markets Russia understood the need to restore the economic space in which it historically
operated. The formation of the Eurasian Economic Union (Eeu) became one of its most ambitious
projects and the integration potential of this geopolitical project is of course high. However, the
way to its implementation is full of challenges.

Being one of the central links of the region, Serbia throughout its history has experienced
multidirectional and often mutually exclusive influences of certain world powers. The end of XX
and the beginning of XXI century became the turning point for the entire Balkansregion where all
the countries chose the European perspective. However, for some of them the path to Europe has
turned out to be fraught with incredible difficulties, often associated with the choice between a
recognized membership in the modern world and the preservation of national dignity. For the
Serbs this question turned out to be the key one. Based on the methods of phenomenology,
behaviourism and comparative analysis, the Author of the article demonstrates that the most
important factor in achieving the goals for Serbia is a competently conducted foreign policy. The
subject of this article is the analysis of the features of Serbian foreign policy during the last five
years, after a new political team came to power. Having comprehensively considered the foreign
policy aspects, the Author concludes that for many countries Serbia is still a strategically
important and attractive market in the region, the core of the Western Balkans area. With skilful
manoeuvring between the interests of others and their own main foreign policy objectives,
Serbian diplomacy could achieve more rapid, painless, and most importantly, more favourable
terms of membership in the common European family.

Initially it was a leader in European integration among the Balkan countries. Today, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro have moved ahead of it. The integration process has stagnated for a number of internal and external reasons. This has led to aggravation in the internal political situation and open political conflict and opposition which unfolded in the first half of 2015. This conflict has highlighted flaws in the EU policies pursued within the country both before and during the crisis. Ultimately it was resolved only after the United States became involved. Failure by the EU to resolve the issues arising in the territory, considered to be its area of responsibility, evidences the deep crisis within the EU integration policy. This article provides an analysis of the internal issues in present-day Macedonia; the threats to domestic and regional stability are highlighted and it proposes an alternative scenario for resolving the situation.

The long-term stable development of the Western Balkans and its full modernization is undermined ... more The long-term stable development of the Western Balkans and
its full modernization is undermined by the existing historical problems
of internal development in the region. All these, in one way or
another, are mediated by competition and confrontation of international
forces in the region along with a lack of understanding the
peculiarities of the region demonstrated by all external players.
The European Union has not been able to independently solve
any issues of internal development of the Balkan states or benefit
from the specific characteristics of these states’ cooperation with
the outside world. Considering the depth of the modern EU internal
crisis, it seems that only taking into account interests of both, intraand
extra-regional players, would facilitate effective development
the Western Balkans: ensure systematic investment and promote
cultural values of the common space for the region, which has been
«stretched» in different directions for centuries.
