With a background in chemistry and molecular biology, she advises on innovations across food tech, life sciences, and materials, focusing on microbial cell culture, recombinant proteins, and probiotics. Jennifer, a member of HGF's Microbiome Team and Food & Drink Group, supports clients in sectors like alternative proteins, cheese manufacture, and confectionery. Her expertise includes patent drafting, global portfolio management, and freedom-to-operate opinions, along with representing clients in EPO Opposition and Appeal proceedings.
Guest speaker Kasia Gil Principal, Sustainable Food Systems @ Icos Capital Management BV Katarzyna Gil is currently working as Principal, Sustainable Food Systems at Collaborative Venture Capital firm - ICOS Capital. She holds a master's degree in pharmacy (Medical University in Wrocław, Poland), and she completed a Ph.D. in Food Chemistry (Department of Life, Environmental and Drug Sciences, University of Cagliari, Italy). During her research career, she was working in the fields of green extraction techniques, food science, food waste valorization, and analytical chemistry. She carried out international collaboration between Mediterranean countries - BESTMEDGRAPE, focused on New Business opportunities and Environmental sustainability using MED GRAPE nanotechnological products. She is fluent in Polish, English, and Italian.
Guest speaker Kerry Rees Partner/Patent Attorney @ HGF Limited Kerry’s primary focus is patent drafting, prosecution, opposition and appeals before the European Patent Office but he also has extensive experience in all phases of foreign patent prosecution. He also provides FTO/infringement advice. He undertakes work in a wide variety of technology areas including pharmaceuticals, biologicals, biochemistry, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, immunology and diagnostics including sequencing technologies. Kerry has a particular interest in food technology, including alt proteins, fermentation, cultured meat and cellular agriculture, food ingredients, food feed and food enzymology, advising a variety of companies at various stages of development on IP strategies to attract funding or IP due diligence in preparing for acquisition, and advising on proactive attacking or defensive strategies in relation to third-party IP.
