Inspired by the original "Secret Santa"-styled Art Exchange community, furartxchange2, this community is for artists who enjoy creating/drawing hybrid or crossbreed characters. Every month, a moderator ( lakotawolf, nattitude, palominomule ) will post a "roll call", and members can post a comment with a character design of their choice. The character they post will then be assigned, "Secret Santa"-like, to another person who posted a character. The match-ups are randomized, and it's rare, but interesting, if you receive the person who received you :}

This exchange was inspired by the large number of other art exchanges out there, especially the original one made by lemurkat :} I looked all around, and couldn't find one for "hybridized" characters. Since I myself love designing crossbreeds, I figured I’d make a place where we could all go crazy with 'em :}

This community is open to artists of ALL SKILL LEVELS. You are not expected to be a "great artist" to participate, as all artists know, we are continually learning!

| GENERAL RULES |

| Each session is one month long. (Yes, this means the February round will be 28 or 29 days long, whereas other months' will be 30 or 31 days long.) The "Roll Call" will go out during the middle days of the month, generally from the 10th-15th, and participants will have a limited amount of time (generally a few days) in which to post their character descriptions. If you miss the cut-off time, you have to wait until the next month’s round, sorry :{

| Participants have until the middle of the next month to complete their work. If your work is not posted by the next roll call, you won't be able to participate in further sessions until your work is presented. There is no "blacklist" in this community YET. If certain people continually fail to turn in art, I may amend this. Removal from the community is rare and will be at my discretion for serious offenses.

| You are encouraged to keep the identity of your "Chosen One" secret until you’re ready to make a post with their image, although it's a good idea to post an "anonymous warning" if your art is going to be late :}

| Similarly, if you have any questions about your Chosen One, you can post the questions in an anonymous reply to their description in the Roll Call post. This will allow any confusion over descriptions to be cleared up without giving away your identity and ruining the surprise.

| The general consensus in the art exchanges seems to be "Draw as you would like to be drawn." Mo matter what you feel your skill level is, put time and effort into your work. We all understand that life gets in the way sometimes, and things like art blocks happen, but try to make the best effort that you can. (It is preferable to turn in late art rather than turn in a five-second scribble that you did on a Post-It Note that you found in your desk at work.)

| Post your work whenever you finish it, as a hyperlink or behind an LJ-cut (see how to make lj-cuts in this FAQ) If your image is bloody/gory or otherwise R-rated, please give a warning.

| Refrain from straight-up "bashing" anyone's artwork. Constructive criticism is welcomed unless the poster requests no critiques. You will be immediately removed from the community if you post a comment like "Wow, this sucks" to anyone’s artwork.

| Similarly, please ask me before posting advertisements for other communities, auctions, commissions, etc. I don't mind people posting them, but seriously, drop me an email first. When I was advertising this community I emailed the mods of EVERY SINGLE art-exchange I participated in, and I would appreciate the same courtesy. Just use the email listed for this community.

| Think ahead. If you don't think you'll be able to have your work done in a timely fashion and won't have much time to spend on it, don't enter. Bow out for one round. There will always be next month.

| DEFINITIONS, ALLOWED HYBRIDS, ETC. |

A hybrid is, by dictionary.com's definition, "The offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock, especially the offspring produced by breeding plants or animals of different varieties, species, or races. Something of mixed origin or composition."

-Two-species hybrids -- Hybrids *ARE ENCOURAGED* to have more than one feature of each species; i.e. not just "a wolf with eagle wings", but you won't be excluded if your character is like that. And yes, you can be a 50% dog/50% wolf hybrid, or a 50% German Shepherd/50% Dalmatian hybrid ;}
-Hybrids of more than two species (i.e. chimerae) PLEASE do not get excessive. If you can no longer tell which species make up a hybrid because it's composed of 50 different species, please don't submit it as a character.
-Gryphons are okay, but remember, there is another LJ exchange just for them!
-The vast majority of obviously-hybridized mythological beasts are allowed (cockatrice okay, unicorn no)
-Mythological creatures are allowed as a "base" (i.e. yes, you can have a unicorn-pegusas or a dragon-cat)
-"Demon" hybrids are okay (as long as they aren't used as a way around the no humanoids rule, and as long as the "demonic" components are still recognizeable "real" species, i.e. ram-horns)
-"Taur" characters are allowed (as long as they are still of hybrid species and do not have a humanoid component)
-Your hybrid character can be in any "form", i.e., Feral / Were / Anthro / Furry / Etc.
-Species that are entirely of your own creation are allowed.
-"Alien" hybrids are allowed as long as they have at least one Terran component (i.e., Predator x Wolf hybrid)

| HYBRIDS THAT ARE NOT OKAY: |

-No "human" crossbreeds allowed - this includes cyborgs, Anime catgirls, and mythological humanoids such as harpies, satyrs, centaurs, etc. If you are unsure about your hybrid character, please make a short post asking for a clarification :}
-No hybrids that are more than 50% fruit or vegetable!
-No cyborg/machine-type crossbreeds (i.e., "robot dogs")
-No "50-species" hybrids that include basically every animal known to mankind. -*DISCOURAGED*: Hybrids that are almost entirely one species in appearance except for ONE "tacked on" feature such as wings, horns, extra tails, etc. I know this may seem nitpicky, but I'm trying to encourage some creativity in the character creation process. If your character is a wolf/eagle hybrid, don't just stick some wings on its shoulders, try adding scaled/taloned feet, a feathered mane, etc :} Again, post and ask if you're unsure about your creature!
