Errors are the result of incomplete learning and linguistic incompetency of the learners and errors cannot be self-corrected. Therefore, the errors made by students indicate that the learners do not mastered English yet. To know what are the errors made by the learner, it needs to use error analysis (EA). The objective of this research was to know the errors in applying inflectional morphemes made by students in descriptive writing. The research used descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this research were principals, teachers, educational staff, parents and students at three Raudhatul Athfal schools in Samarinda. This research used qualitative design. Data collection was carried out for 2 months, from the beginning of February to the end of March 2022. Data obtained through observations, interviews, and documentation. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The instrument used in this research were interviews, documentation, and Oshima & Hogue’s Paragraph Rubric. The research subject was 7 eighth-semester students of UINSI Samarinda. The data were collected from the background of the study of the student’s undergraduate thesis proposals and analyzed with the Miles and Huberman Model. The result showed that the difficulties in developing a paragraph experienced by the students were related to too specific and too general topic sentences, poor supporting sentences, the absence of concluding sentences, inconsistent topic discussion, and inharmonic sentences. Background: This study was conducted to find out the correlations and influences of students’ anx... more Background: This study was conducted to find out the correlations and influences of students’ anxiety and motivation to students’ speaking English achievement. Methodology: One hundred and thirteen students Islamic Boarding School of Nabil Husein Samarinda participated in this study. A stratified random sampling technique was used in this study. Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety (FLCAS) and Attitude Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) were used as instruments. Multiple Regression and Path Analysis were used as data analysis techniques to analyze the data. Findings: 80.4% of students’ anxiety influenced to students’ speaking English Achievement. The next finding showed that students’ anxiety correlated to students’ motivation at 94.7%. It indicated a strong correlation where the degree of correlation at 0.897. Pentingnya pendidikan bagi kehidupan manusia sebagai pengemban dan pelaku peradaban tidak bisa dihindarkan, karena ia adalah kumpulan proses perkembangan kemampuan dan perilaku yang berbasis pada pengalaman. Tahapan yang tak kalah penting dalam pendidikan adalah pemahaman, yaitu kemampuan menangkap makna dan arti dari sesuatu yang dipelajari. Sedangkan goalnya adalah kesadaran belajar atas ilmu dan kesadaran untuk menerapkan yang dipelajari dalam kehidupannya. Hal ini juga berlaku dalam memahami pendidikan agama islam, yang juga menuntut kesadaran menerapkannya dalam keseharian. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisa pengaruh pemahaman pendidikan agama islam terhadap kesadaran peserta didik dalam menunaikan sholat. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan penentuan responden proportionate stratified random sampling 15%. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Septembernovember 2021 (semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2021/2022). Validitas instrumen diketahui dengan Pearson Product Moment (r hitung), selanjutnya dihitung uji signifikansi. Pengujian reliabilitas angket mengikuti pendapat Akdon, menghitung (skor, korelasi, reliabilitas, r table). Untuk menganalisis data digunakan program SPSS. Hasil akhir dalam penelitian ini menginformasikan adanya signifikansi pengaruh dan kontribusi pemahaman pendidikan agama Islam (secara simultan) pada kesadaran peserta didik di SMA Negeri 1 Penajam Paser Utara dalam menunaikan sholat sebesar 51,7%. Ini berarti bahwa tingkat kesadaran peserta didik menunaikan sholat yang dapat diberikan oleh pengaruh pemahaman pendidikan agama Islam (secarasimultan) sebesar 51,7%. Sisanya sebesar 48,3% dijelaskan oleh faktor lain yang tidak dikaji dalam penelitian ini. Kata Kunci : pemahaman, pendidikan, agama, kesadaran, penerapan.

The objective of this research was to understand the writing error of eleventh-grade students of ... more The objective of this research was to understand the writing error of eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Samarinda. The descriptive qualitative method was used to examine the written exposition text made by 15 students. The data was collected from the participants’ writing on exposition text and analyzed based on the errors’ categorization. The result showed that there are 16 categories of errors found in the data. They were punctuation, missing word, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, pronoun agreement, spelling, singular or plural, unnecessary word, wrong word form, wrong word, wrong order, fragment, preposition, conjunction, article, and need-further support error. The error factors were intralingua transfer, interlingua transfer, and students’ lack of knowledge about writing.

This study examines the ideology and rhetorical patterns of MetroTV news when reporting on the La... more This study examines the ideology and rhetorical patterns of MetroTV news when reporting on the Lapindo Mudflow tragedy that started in Sidoarjo, Indonesia in 2012. The ideology used to represent facts and opinions on the tragedy were evaluated using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The source of the data comprised 12 recordings of broadcasted news and included words, phrases, sentences, and discourses expressing the mudflow tragedy and its effects on people in the surrounding area. The findings indicate that the rhetorical patterns of Metro TV news included the title, orientation, sequence of events, and closing. Ideology was inserted in any kind of discourse units, imposing power and hegemony as tools of CDA effecting social changes.

In this research, the researchers focus on the the type of learning styles of high achiever students of the English department at IAIN Samarinda. This is a survey research where the researchers collected by usig the Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire. The subject of this research is the high achiever students of the English Department at IAIN Samarinda that consists of twenty-two students from fifth and seventh semester students. This research found that all of learning styles exist in this research results where visual learning style become the highest percentage among others. Students� learning habits in everyday life also play important role in determining their learning style. Research discussion and suggestion are provided further in this study.

In addition, the students’ preferences towards the techniques used by the lecturer are also pointed out by the use of direct observation to the classroom and semi-structured interview to the students. As a result, Oral Drill and Modeling appear to be the most techniques used by the lecturer and get the students’ preference in 20%. Meanwhile, the use of Real Object only appears once along the researchers’ observation which also takes 20% of the students’ preference. The last result which is obtained by the researchers is that the use of games attracts the students’ attention with 40% of preference. Interestingly, the students promote positive attitudes when the lecturer is applying the games to have them practice their pronunciation. This study examines the ideology and rhetorical patterns of MetroTV news when reporting on the La... more This study examines the ideology and rhetorical patterns of MetroTV news when reporting on the Lapindo Mudflow tragedy that started in Sidoarjo, Indonesia in 2012. The ideology used to represent facts and opinions on the tragedy were evaluated using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The source of the data comprised 12 recordings of broadcasted news and included words, phrases, sentences, and discourses expressing the mudflow tragedy and its effects on people in the surrounding area. The findings indicate that the rhetorical patterns of Metro TV news included the title, orientation, sequence of events, and closing. Ideology was inserted in any kind of discourse units, imposing power and hegemony as tools of CDA effecting social changes.

In this case, students� learning styles have closely relation to their achievement. In this research, the researchers focus on the the type of learning styles of high achiever students of the English department at IAIN Samarinda. This is a survey research where the researchers collected by usig the Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire. The subject of this research is the high achiever students of the English Department at IAIN Samarinda that consists of twenty-two students from fifth and seventh semester students. This research found that all of learning styles exist in this research results where visual learning style become the highest percentage among others. Students� learning habits in everyday life also play important role in determining their learning style. Research discussion and suggestion are provided further in this study.

In addition, the students’ preferences towards the techniques used by the lecturer are also pointed out by the use of direct observation to the classroom and semi-structured interview to the students. As a result, Oral Drill and Modeling appear to be the most techniques used by the lecturer and get the students’ preference in 20%. Meanwhile, the use of Real Object only appears once along the researchers’ observation which also takes 20% of the students’ preference. The last result which is obtained by the researchers is that the use of games attracts the students’ attention with 40% of preference. Interestingly, the students promote positive attitudes when the lecturer is applying the games to have them practice their pronunciation.
