In order to investigate the effects of the seismic isolation, the condition of the deck with a rigid connection on the cap beams and abutments (i.e., without isolation) was investigated as the first model. The EB, LRB and FPB bearings are used between the superstructure and substructure of the studied bridge in the second, third and fourth models, respectively. First, the effects of using seismic bearings on the seismic retrofit of an RC bridge under the Tabas earthquake were investigated. The results of the nonlinear dynamic analysis showed that the use of seismic bearings leads to seismic retrofit of the studied bridge, and FPB and LRB had the best results among the studied isolation equipment, respecti...

A vertical isolated rocking core-moment frame (VI-RCMF) provides a resilience technique to curtail the seismic vulnerability using the isolation of subsystems. Viscous dampers, installed at each floor level of the VI-RCMF archetype, separate moment frame (MF) from rocking-core (RC). The self-centering RC performs as a passive strong-back core, which can uplift on its toes. Although the VI-RCMFs have exhibited superior performance compared to non-isolated dual frames, there are analytical challenges to come up with the optimal design due to the complex interaction of subsystems. This paper presents an optimization framework for quantifying the optimal design parameters of VI-RCMFs. Accordingly, the simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) method is employed as the optimization algorithm. The objective function is defined to minimize the displ...

The act of benefiting from numerous advantages of these materials is the main objective of researches and studies focused on seismic and structural engineering. In the present study, in addition to the development of finite element models of several steel frames using ABAQUS software, the effect of shape memory alloys (SMAs) on superelastic behavior and the various types of eccentric braces will be checked. Moreover, it was observed that the use of SMAs within various types of bracing systems of steel frames leads to a decrease in the reduction factor of the frames. Also, the eccentric bracing in which SMAs are utilized in the middle of bracing led to the highest effect on reduction of lateral drift of the frames and decrease of reduction factor. The obtained results indicated that the application of smart materials led to increasing of strain energy and base shear of the first plastic hin...

In this paper, GASKAR brick minaret with a height of 16.11 meters has been modeled with the finite element software by APDL programming and precise discretization in order to achieve an accurate damage pattern. Then the demand for wind load and earthquake load is determined according to the national building codes and applied to the minaret structure. Macro-modeling has been used to model the masonry materials domain. Nonlinear properties are also assigned to masonry materials. The results showed that the minaret is safe against both of the design wind load (90km/h) and the fastest recorded wind in the world(205km/h). If up to 12 times the design wind load is applied to the surface of the minaret, the nonlinear behavior of the building will begin. The minaret is also vulnerable to earthquakes and minor damage has occurred at the bottom of the minaret, indicating that the minaret is at risk of collapse.

For the research, 14 mixing designs with different amounts of aggregate, water, and cement were made. Experimental results showed that the specific gravity of lightweight structural concrete made from a mixture of LECA, pumice, and perlite aggregates could be 25-30% lighter than conventional concrete. Lightweight structural concrete with a standard specific gravity can be achieved by using a combination of light LECA with perlite lightweight aggregates (LA) and pumice with perlite in concrete. The results indicated that LECA lightweight aggregates show more effective behavior in the concrete sample. Also, the amount of cement had a direct effect on increasing the strength regardless of the composition of LAs. The amount of cement causes compressive strength to increase. Furthermore, the stability ...

The objective function is the cost function per unit length of the channel, which includes the excavation and lining costs. To define the system, design variables including channel depth, channel width, side slopes, freeboard, and roughness coefficients were used. The constraints include Manning’s equation, flow velocity, Froude number, and water surface width. The Simultaneous Perturbation Stochastic Approximation (SPSA) algorithm was used to solve the optimization problem. The results are presented in three parts; in the first part, the optimal values of the design variables and the objective function are presented in different discharges. In the second part, the relationship between cost and design variables in different discharges is presented in the form of conceptual and analytical models and mathematical functions. Finally, in the third part, the cha...

In the following, ST37 material has been used in the modeling procedure of T-connection. Meanwhile, fire loading is conducted according to the Eurocode standard and the temperature-time curve is applied based on the ISO 834 standard. In this research, nine prototypes of T-connection are modeled in ABAQUS software by considering the geometrical parameters such as the diameter and number of bolts, length, and thickness of T-connection. By comparing the results of nine models, the higher amounts of stress are seen in the beam-to-column connections with increasing connection length. By changing each of the parameters, the failure modes are altered relative to the thickness of connections under fire loading. Although the number of bolts parameter is effective in order to reduce the displacement and ductility in the connections, and increasing the absorption capacity and the amount of stiffness and strength in higher temperatures. The obtained results showed that by increasing the bolt diameter of the COL. M16-N4-TST15 and COL.M20-N4-TST15 samples, the displacement value is reduced 10% and 14%, respectively, compared to the reference sample. Also, by enhancing the bolt number of the COL.M22-N4-TST15 and COL.M12-N8-TST15 samples, the displacement value is decreased 17% and 30%, respectively, in comparison with the reference sample. Meanwhile, when the T-connection thickness of COL.M20-N4-TST20 and COL.M20-N4-TST25 samples is increased, the displacement value is decreased by 19% and 22%, respectively, compared to the reference sample.

Since Ahar is one of the most earthquake-prone cities of Iran with relative risk of large earthquakes, the presence of multiple faults in this area as well as historical, cultural and tourism importance of the building, makes its vulnerability assessments and retrofitting inevitable. Because of low adhesion strength of masonry used in the building and regarding its vulnerability records on previous earthquakes, the building seems weak against relatively intense earthquakes. The aim of this study is to investigate vulnerability of this building against possible earthquakes. Selected earthquakes for seismic loading are modified for the maximum horizontal acceleration obtained for this region. Various results have been studied after utilize finite element model using Ansys software and various analyses.

In the meantime, meta-heuristic algorithms have been faced with the popularity of researchers. Over the past three decades, there are many metaheuristic algorithms. The presentation of each of these algorithms may be randomly implemented by other researchers in solving various problems of science. The Football Game Algorithm (FGA) is also proposed as a new meta-heuristic algorithm based on simulating the behavior of football players during a game to find the best mode for scoring goals under the supervision of the coach. In the present research, for the first time, this algorithm has been investigated in civil engineering structures including cantilever beam as a benchmark structure and compared to the results of the powerful particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) and the constrained minimization ( fmincon) of the toolbox of MATLAB. Also, because of the random intrinsic nature of the algorithms used in the research, for the statistical study of the structure of the benchmark structure, 30 times have been performed to investigate the sensitivity of their response. The results show that in spite of the random nature of the algorithm, the objective function changes are not tangible. After optimizing the size of the benchmark structure, it was found that savings of 8% to 70% The computational time ability of the algorithm to determine the absolute optimal response and the lower sensitivity to the random nature of the algorithm is dependent on the features of the game play algorithm in relation to the particle swarm algorithm and optimization.
