The studies suggested that skin tags may be an important physical sign that should alert the clinician to look for possible impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes mellitus in patients who manifest them. Also, the presence of the atherogenic lipid profile should also be looked for in these individuals. Clinical signs can aid those patients for health care screening, and skin tags may be an indicator of higher cardiovascular risk that could be useful in general practices. Objectives: To correlate the relationship between Skin Tags, DM2 and atherogenic lipid profile. Patients and Methods: This is a cross sectional, observational, descriptive prospective hospital based study conducted in Jabir Abu Eliz Diabetes center outpatient clinic...

In this paper, the clinical features of dermatoses or mucocutaneous disorders where desquamative gingivitis is presenting manifestations have been reviewed (lichen planus, mucous membranes pemphigoid and pemphigus vulgaris). Other less common mucocutaneous disorders affecting the oral mucosa (lupus erythromatosus, linear IgA, plasma cell gingivitis, chronic ulcerative stomatitis and psoriasis) are also described. Correct identification of these conditions entails taking a careful history and performing a thorough intra-oral examination. Presence of cutaneous, nasal, ocular and genital lesions should be carefully elicited from the patient. The clinical manifestations, investigations and modalities of treatment are reviewed. Desquamative gingivitis (DG) is a clinical feature of a variety of diseases. It is characterised by epithelial desquamation, erythema, ulceration, and/or the presence of vesiculobullous lesions of the gingiva and other oral tissues. This phenomenon can be a manifestation of a number of dermatoses, most commonly lichen planus, mucous membrane pemphigoid (cicatricial pemphigoid), and pemphigus vulgaris [1-3]. Other causes include allergic reactions to toothpastes/mouth rinses (plasma cell gingivitis) [4-6], Crohn's disease [7], psoriasis [8], linear IgA disease [9] and chronic ulcerative stomatitis [10]. Desquamative gingivitis can be mistaken for plaque induced gingivitis and this can lead to delayed diagnosis and inappropriate treatment of serious dermatological diseases such as pemphigoid or pemphigus [11-14]. Desquamative gingivitis as a presenting feature is most commonly noticed in oral lichen planus (OLP) [15-17]. Sudanese Journal of Dermatology Vol. 4(1) 2006: 16-27

The present study was designed to determine the maximum safe level for fluoride in potable water under the conditions currently prevailing in the affected areas using the Galagan and Vermillion equation which permits the calculation of the upper permissible fluoride level as a function of temperature. The annual mean maximum temperature (AMMT) in Sudan during the last 10 years, from data in the database bank of the American Central Intelligence Agency, was 35.58oC which gave an upper permissible fluoride level in potable water of 0.61 ppm. However, after applying a correction factor of 0.56 to the equation to allow for the current Sudanese conditions, an upper permissible limit for fluoride in potable water was found of 0.32–0.35 mg/L. The people in fluoride endemic areas in Sudan should not drink water with a fluoride level above 0.35 mg/L to avoid the risk of fluorosis.

Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out by distributing an anonymous self-administered questionnaire to a convenience sample of dental practitioners at major teaching hospital in Khartoum/Sudan. The questionnaire investigated knowledge and attitudes of participants in relation to antibiotic prescribing in dental practice. Results: One hundred out of 135 dental practitioners working at the hospital participated in the survey with 48 males and 52 females. Most of the participants (N=44) did not specify their preferable drug reference, while 32 participants specified British National Formulary, and the practice was significantly associated with a higher professional rank (p<0.001). Metronidazole was the most frequently cited antibiotic for dentofacial infections (N=73) and Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis (N=56), while amoxicillin was the most frequently cited antibiotic for dento-alveolar infections and infective endocarditis prophylaxis (N=88 and N=47, respectively). Conclusion: Undergraduate, as well as postgraduate courses, are required in Sudan to provide up-to-date orientation on antibiotic use, and to increase awareness of dentists about antibiotic prescribing.

A great deal of effort has been directed towards altering the virus trajectory and/or managing the interactions of the virus with its subsequent targets in the human body; these interactions can lead to a chain reaction-like state manifested by a cytokine storm and progress to multiple organ failure. During cytokine storms the ratio of pro-inflammatory to anti-inflammatory mediators is generally increased, which contributes to the instigation of hyper-inflammation and confers advantages to the virus. Because cytokine expression patterns fluctuate from one person to another and even within the same person from one time to another, we suggest a road map of COVID-19 management using an individual approach instead of focusing on the blockbuster process (one treatment for most people, if not all). HP is a normal flora having immuno-modulating properties. This bacterium is an example of a microorganism inducing gastric cancer. Its carcinogenicity depends on bacteria-host related factors. The proper understanding of the biology of HP inducing gastric cancer offers the potential strategy in the managing of HP rather than eradicating it. In this article, we try to summarize the biology of HP-induced gastric cancer and discuss the current pharmacological approach to treat and prevent its carcinogenicity.
