On September 13, 2024, the IDLab laboratory held an online seminar titled "Building an Academic Career," which gathered around 30 participants. In addition to the laboratory staff, external listeners joined the seminar, and the online format allowed attendees not only from Perm but also from other cities, including Moscow.

The seminar was opened by the head of the laboratory, Petr Parshakov, who emphasized Professor Angel Barajas's significant role in the establishment of IDLab:

"We are pleased to welcome Angel to our seminar. He was largely responsible for the initial work of our laboratory. He was our scientific advisor, and who better than him knows the ins and outs of academia? That's why we invited him to share his experience with young researchers."

During his presentation, Professor Barajas discussed how the academic environment provides unique opportunities for those who aspire to pursue their professional interests. He shared his vision of the university teaching profession, highlighting that an academic career encompasses both research work and teaching. "We teach students, and then they help us," he noted, emphasizing the importance of interaction with students.

Seminar participants gained a detailed understanding of a researcher’s career path, key tasks, and challenges they may encounter. The professor spoke about how to successfully advance in the scientific field, stressing the importance of publishing scientific articles and developing necessary skills.

Additionally, Professor Barajas shared personal experiences and offered valuable advice to those just starting their academic careers. At the end of the seminar, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss topics that concerned them, which helped deepen their understanding of career opportunities in science.
