And now... the MOMENT OF TRUTH!

1. Well the south side of Chicago Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
You better just beware
Of a man named Leroy Brown

Oh, yes. "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", by Jim Croce, which I thought was a pretty easy one. And it looks like I was right, since it was guessed by kageneko, placeboweek, aardy, the_cynic, coffeechica, rahaeli, and bubba. Hooray!

2. Feel the pain teaching us how much more we can take
Reminding us how far we've come
Let the pain burn away from our hearts We have time to start all over again

This one is "When Finally Set Free", by Copeland. Nobody got this one, presumably because christine didn't see the entry.

3. Listen: wear your headphones And I'll whisper you the code Of a helper application That you can download
It's called Remember
'Cause no one
No one, No one, No one, No one
Knows what happens
Next
Because time travel is lonely

"Time Travel is Lonely" by John Vanderslice. Repeat what I just said in the last one except substitute herrsatan for christine.

4. I've been singing with my band
Across the wire across the land
I seen every blue eyed floozy on the way, hey
But their beauty and their style Went kind of smooth after a while
Take me to them dirty ladies every time

Come on
Ooooooooh won't you take me home tonight ?
Ooooooooh down beside your red firelight
Ooooooooh and you give it all you got
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round

Yes, Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls". bubba was the only one that got this one. Shame on all of the rest of you. Shame.

5. I will paint my picture
Paint myself in blue and red and black and gray
All of the beautiful colors are very very meaningful
Gray is my favorite color
I felt so symbolic yesterday
If I knew Picasso
I would buy myself a gray guitar and play

Mr. Jones and me look into the future
Stare at the beautiful women
"She's looking at you.
Oh, no, I don't think so. She's looking at me."

I deliberately picked one of the most memorable lines from "Mr. Jones" by the Counting Crows because I figured there ought to be some easy ones. This one was guessed by sonneta, kageneko, placeboweek, aardy, the_kitty_kat, damnitnicole, azurelunatic, and coffeechica. So I guess I did a good job of making that one easy.

6. Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man
Play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man
Play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

"Mr. Tambourine Man", written by Bob Dylan, but also performed by the Byrds and rather... memorably by William Shatner. Successfully guessed by sonneta, the_kitty_kat, and en_ki (who assumed I was listening to the Shatner version, although actually it was the Byrds this time).

7. Ain't gonna worry Just live till you die
I wanna drown
With nowhere to fall
Into the arms of someone
There's nothing to save
And I know
You live till you die

This rather cheerful ditty is called "In the Fade", and comes to us from the Queens of the Stone Age. Successfully guessed by hammond.

8. Bring back those days of Sahara
Oh, the sin, the sabotage
We had no fears The band played for a thousand years Or was it just a mirage?

"Sahara" by Moxy Fruvous. Guessed by sunday_silence, and also by rahaeli which surprises absolutely no one. (She correctly guessed that I'd be listening to a live version, as well.)

9. Jonas and Ezekiel, hear me now
Steady now and don't come out
I'm not ready for the dead to show its face
Whose angel are you anyway?

"Jonas and Ezekiel", Indigo Girls. Guessed only by rahaeli. Come on, guys. Do we really have no Indigo Girls fans here?

10. Well, I'll still say your name to fall asleep
Over and over
A cynic saying rosary
A liar in his make believe

And all of Detroit waves good night
Spread out beneath me now
If I could change, if I could
Believe me, I would, yes, I would
And Detroit waves

"Detroit Waves" by Matt Nathanson. Guessed by coffeechica, which I guess is about as surprising as rahaeli guessing the Moxy Fruvous song.

11. I dreamt that I was perched atop a throne of human skulls
On a cliff above the ocean, howling wind and shrieking seagulls
And the dream went on forever, one single static frame
Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name

And I am this great, unstable mass of blood and foam
And no one in her right mind would make her home my home
My heart's an autoclave
My heart's an autoclave

Autoclave, by the Mountain Goats. I know you've never heard of them. But they're really good.

12. Welcome to the jungle
We take it day by day
If you want it you're gonna bleed
But that's the price you pay
And you're a very sexy girl
That's very hard to please
You can taste the bright lights But you won't get them for free

Yep, "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns and Roses. Guessed by kageneko and rahaeli. I admit I was surprised only two people picked this one up, since I guarantee every one of you has heard this song.

13. X, because it's extra, baby
Y, because it's extra, baby
Unnoticed by few
Very very few
And that includes you

Look inside your mind
Look inside your eye
Secret agent spy, come to see why
S-E-X-X-Y

This one is TMBG's ode to the humble sufferer of Klinefelter's Syndrome, "S-E-X-X-Y". Not their best work, but kageneko, azurelunatic, imc, coffeechica, en_ki, and hammond got it anyway.

14. I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

Yes, there's a little black spot on the sun today. kageneko, alsatia, rahaeli, and hammond correctly identified "King of Pain" by Sting.

15. When the moon is in the seventh house
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius
The Age of Aquarius

Aquarius (Aquarius)

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystals revelations And the mind's true liberation

"Aaaaage of Aquarius" from Hair. I was listening to the version performed by The Fifth Dimension. Guessed by kageneko and coffeechica. Carrie wanted to know if I was listening to a cool cover. Alas, I have yet to find a really good one of this song. Perhaps I'll send a request to Brian Ibbott.

16. Wouldn't know any more than home
And couldn't see much further
And light won't help
A wound untended grows And never heals
Standing face to east
Waiting for an answer
But the only sound is desert wind
And when the wind was cold
Bundled up and packed away we shiver still
Finding more than one wind blows

"One Wind Blows" by Toad the Wet Sprocket. Nobody got this one, which I suppose is what I get for not using Walk on the Ocean.

17. Well, my baby's in love with Eddie Vedder
She's all crazy 'bout that Eddie Vedder
Once she was mine but now I better just forget her
'Cause my baby's in love with Eddie Vedder

Now every time I see him, well, he looks so grim
I guess it really must suck to be a rock star like him
What a pain in the butt to have so much success
Spending all his time moping and avoiding the press
But my girl can't get enough of his sullen demeanor
Like he's some big tortured genius and I'm some kinda wiener

This one is "My Baby's in Love With Eddie Vedder" by Weird Al from the Running with Scissors album. Guessed by kageneko, sunday_silence, and eetmewithtoast.

18. I know the pieces fit
'cause I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame it doesn't mean I don't desire
To point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over
To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication

The poetry that comes from the squaring off between And the circling Is worth it
Finding beauty in the dissonance

"Schism", by Tool, also known as "How to Fuck Up Your Bassist", otherwise known as "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT VIDEO". Nobody got this one, but this was totally unfair. Nobody understands what he's saying in that part. I don't think he even understands what he's saying.

19. Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing, stretching every nerve
Had to listen, had no choice
I did not believe the information I just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom boom boom
"Son," he said "Grab your things,
I've come to take you home"

"Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel. A personal favorite. This one was guessed by kageneko, azurelunatic, rahaeli, and coffeechica. eetmewithtoast had the right artist and chorus, but couldn't quite remember the name of the song.

20. Harry is the one I think you'll marry
But it's Chris that you kissed after school
Well I'm a fool
There's no doubt
But when the sun comes out
(And only when the sun comes out)
I'm the luckiest guy on the lower east side
'Cuz I've got wheels
And you want to go for a ride

"Luckiest Guy on the Lower-east Side" by the Magnetic Fields from their mammoth album 69 Love Songs. (The title is not lying. That is how many there are.) en_ki had this right and eetmewithtoast knew the album but not the particular song. (I can hardly blame her; they do tend to blend together after a while.)

And that's all! kageneko is the clear winner with eight songs and artists successfully guessed. Hooray! Enjoy your fabulous no-prize.
