Iñigo Retolaza Eguren | Institute of Development Studies (original) (raw)
I was born in Basque Country, Spain, (May 1968) and have more than 30 years of international experience in facilitating processes related to i) personal accompaniment to professionals and social activists, ii) organizational conflict transformation, strategic thinking, learning and change, and iii) multi-stakeholder dialogue in contexts of socio-political conflict and cultural diversity.
I have a multidisciplinary academic background. I studied a BSc in Agricultural Engineering (University of Valladolid, Spain), a Diploma in Local Management for Integral Development (NUR University, Bolivia) and a MA in Participation, Power and Social Change (Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, UK) .
Over the years (1994-2012) I have lived in various countries and continents, mostly in Latin America, consulting and working with indigenous communities, grassroots organizations, social movements, NGOs and international donors, private companies and governments. I was an advisor (2006-2012) to the United Nations Development Program-Latin America (Democratic Dialogue Regional Project) where I facilitated a number of multi-stakeholder dialogue processes (Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Bolivia, etc.) .
Nowadays I live in Basque Country where I facilitate i) public conversations on relevant issues (linguistic coexistence, education, migration and discrimination, peaceful coexistence, culture, environmental issues, etc.), ii) learning, change, strategic repositioning, and conflict management in organizations, and iii) citizen dialogue aimed at processing the consequences of the Basque conflict (social memory, social healing, restorative dialogues, etc.). I also enjoy very much accompanying individuals in their professional development (decision-making, job transitions, leadership, communication, interpersonal conflicts, ways of working, team coaching, executive coaching, etc.).
I use a vast range of methodologies coming from the systems-complexity approach (systemic coaching, process work, participatory action-learning, embodied learning, qualitative action-research, democratic dialogue, theory U, social presencing theater, theory of change, conflict transformation, reflexive practice, meditative practices, nature-based retreats).
I live in a small rural village and carry out my consulting work at national and international level.
